Your role

This is a very special role to provide holistic health and wellbeing of those who visit our open drop-in at the Vineyard Community Centre in Richmond. To us, they are our guests, not 'clients', 'patients' or users'.

This will include personal health screening, and holistic health support; also to provide health education, and liaison with outside agencies and local surgery. Many of our guests have multiple and complex needs involving, mental health, drug/alcohol dependency and homelessness.

You’ll report to our Community Nursing Manager and work with our Case Worker and Caseworkers from the Glass Door charity, and external hosted partner organisations like SPEAR and C.A.B.

About the role

As the Area Service Manager, you will be accountable for ensuring our contracts with partners and/or commissioners deliver to the highest standards, in a way that creates maximum impact.

Across Yorkshire, you will lead on the delivery of our coaching and behaviour change programmes alongside managing our expanding housing portfolio and housing support services. You will take responsibility for growing the business across Yorkshire with existing partners, other organisations and via Local Authority contracts.

As a member of the national Joint Leadership Team (JLT), you will help to shape and develop our services and products, ensuring that the EF’s growth remains rooted in our organisational values of respect, accountability, and integrity.

Our current contracts cover Leeds, Kirklees, and York, and you will be required to work across varying sites. You will directly manage a team of Service Managers and Team Leaders and be responsible for a growing staff team of over 25 individuals.

You are an experienced operational leader who has a proven track record in managing front-line substance misuse, recovery and/or housing services.

As a values-led manager, you have a passion for developing services and staff to be the best they can be.

Organisation, planning, and communication skills come naturally to you, as you will managing competing priorities across a large geographical area.

You are flexible and can work autonomously, managing your own diary based on service needs.

ABOUT THE ROLE

ABOUT THE SERVICE

Synergy, Brent is a Housing Related Support (HRS) Service for a range of vulnerable people who have been or are at risk of homelessness. The age eligibility criteria for the service is adults between the ages of 18 to 60, who are identified to have low/medium support needs. Some of the needs we support are:

• Single homeless between ages of 18 to 60
• Socially excluded individuals
• Ex-Offenders
• People with substance misuse
• Mental Health (Low)
• Learning disability (Low/Medium)
• Women who have come from domestic abuse environments and situations who may need low level support as part of their resettlement following a move on from a refuge or other safe domestic abuse supported accommodation.

OVERVIEW OF KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

LINE MANAGEMENT/LEADERSHIP

• Provide leadership to employees throughout the employee life cycle. This includes but is not limited to; Recruitment, onboarding, inductions, probation reviews, support and supervision, employee relations, performance, learning and development, staff wellbeing and support, grievances, sickness, disciplinaries, retention and other areas which fall within the employee lifecycle.
• Hold regular, high quality one to ones and team meetings, support effective teamwork and communication. Support with ensuring a culture where constructive challenge is welcomed, and conflict is managed supportively in line with relevant policies and procedures.
• Build and manage effective relationships across the organisation and ensure consistent communication, whilst upholding SIG’s values, policies, and procedures. Work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to drive ongoing improvement to the service in line with best practice.

SERVICE DELIVERY

• Support the Service Manager with the day-to-day operational delivery of the service and work directly with colleagues, residents, participants, and other stakeholders to provide a high-quality, holistic service which meets the presenting needs of all relevant stakeholders.
• Ensure service responsibilities and requirements are carried out effectively. This includes but is not limited to; welfare checks, risk assessments, support sessions, safeguarding checks, training and development, and other responsibilities required for effective service delivery.
• Support the Service Manager to ensure the service and team meet and exceed Key Performance Indicators, and work in line with professional codes of conduct.
• In conjunction with the Service Manager, facilitate a program of continuous improvement in an environment where residents and participants are cared for, supported, and have access to resources they need to achieve positive and sustainable outcomes.
• Empower residents and participants to make decisions to take control over their lives, by creating an enabling environment.

RISK MANAGEMENT, INFORMATION MANAGEMENT AND CASE RECORDING

• Follow the relevant risk assessment and management procedures, share any relevant information with partner agencies as appropriate.
• Ensure all case recording, and information is accurately recorded in a timely manner, ensuring electronic records are protected in line with GDPR, and kept up to date and written to a high standard.
• Alongside the Service Manager, champion, and act as a point of reference for safeguarding concerns within the service(s). Ensure all staff attend relevant safeguarding and training and use knowledge to coach and advise the team.

PROPERTY AND HOUSING MANAGEMENT

• Create and manage a welcoming, psychologically informed home environment for residents and participants, ensuring a continuous focus on safety, health, and wellbeing.
• Ensure the accommodation in which residents live is maintained to a high standard, in line with SIG’s property standards and meets all legal and statutory health and fire safety requirements to operate safely, effectively, and efficiently.
• Ensure all repairs and maintenance issues are correctly reported and managed through to completion.

FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT

• Provide support in setting the service’s budget and reviewing monthly management accounts; manage set budgets effectively and ensure resources are maximized.
• Maintain financial management within the service, including but not limited to, invoice management, arrears management, management of petty cash, and expense claims.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES

• Contract Management and Internal Auditing; Ensure due diligence is carried out and records are well maintained.
• Administration duties will vary, including operating online systems and ensuring correct processes are followed alongside GDPR and confidentiality.
• Other duties may include but are not limited to, maintaining clean and tidy environments, removing rubbish, ordering supplies, arranging in house events and activities and other general on-site duties.

Other responsibilities than those described above may be required to be undertaken from time to time and will be expected to be performed to as long as it is within the capability and level of the position. 

KEY CRITERIA

What we are looking for:

• Understanding and/or experience of working with people of complex backgrounds, ex-offenders, mental health, substance misuse, challenging behaviours
• Experience of working with and engaging with diverse groups of people from varying backgrounds
• IT Proficiency, including Microsoft Office, and the ability to navigate and learn new case management systems and other types of organisational software
• Understanding and/or practical knowledge of the social and societal marginalisation that can be attached to people with mental health issues, addiction, exploitation, homelessness and within the criminal justice system
• Ability to promote the service and provide outreach-based provision, with an ability to liaise and work effectively in partnership with stakeholders
• Ability to follow organisational policies and process in line with external governance

What we would like, but not essential:

• Previous experience in people management and development

Working collaboratively with the local Substance Misuse Service in Liverpool, we are expanding this commitment through the introduction of a Harm Reduction Peer Support Lead to support the delivery of a peer led Harm Reduction service in this area.

About the role:

The post holder will work within The Passage’s Community Services as a Complex Case Outreach Worker and will lead on case management for people experiencing homelessness who are presenting in the footprints in which the team operate and/or who are accessing the Resource Centre. The post-holder will support individuals with substance use support needs and/or mental health issues and will lead on work with clients who are experiencing alcohol and/or drug dependencies and who may also be experiencing mental health problems or other health or social care needs.

Main duties:

• To manage a caseload of clients presenting within the footprints in which the Engagement & Outreach service operate and individuals who are accessing The Passage Resource Centre. To support clients with complex needs, supporting them to identify and work towards recovery and away from homelessness.
• Carry out assessments, case management, support planning and the delivery of interventions for clients including those experiencing mental health and/or substance misuse issues who are multiply-disadvantaged in their homelessness.
• Provide assertive outreach and engagement with street-based service users presenting with complex needs and barriers to engagement. Carry out monthly street-based audits to inform reporting and analysis of service outcomes.
• Support clients who are rough sleeping or involved in day time activity in the footprints in which the team operate to end their homelessness by linking them in with appropriate internal and external support services relevant to their needs. To provide support to clients who are accommodated, but may require ongoing support in order to maintain this accommodation, linking them in to appropriate local services.

General responsibilities:

• In conjunction with your line manager to continuously develop the role to ensure that all tasks are being undertaken in an effective and appropriate manner which meets the strategic aims and objectives of The Passage.
• To participate in internal/external meetings as required, attend training events, conferences and other functions as necessary.
• To participate in regular supervision and annual appraisal, and help in identifying your own job-related development and training needs.
• To ensure that all The Passage policies and procedures are being adhered to, particularly those relating to Code of Practice and Confidentiality.
• To contribute to the effective implementation of The Passage’s Diversity and Equality Policy as it affects both The Passage and its work with vulnerable adults.
• To at all times undertake your role in a professional manner maintaining a high quality standard of work, and to always work in accordance with the aims, values and ethos of The Passage.

Desired experience:

• Significant experience of delivering support services to socially excluded clients in a street based/day centre or similar setting.
• Significant experience of working in a mental health and/or substance misuse setting, working collaboratively to achieve positive outcomes for clients.
• Experience of providing a fully sensitive and responsive service to clients in a psychologically informed manner.
• Experience of working cooperatively with external partner agencies, e.g. Police, Social Services, NHS, as well as housing providers and voluntary agencies.
• Experience of assessing client needs and supporting clients to address their needs through assertive outreach and case management.
• Experience of working in a client-centered recovery focused approach and the necessary professional social skills to initiate and maintain constructive and appropriate relations with clients and agencies.

Desired knowledge:

• Understanding the support needs of the street populations with complex health, and housing needs.
• Knowledge of services and legislative environment regarding housing, health, work and immigration as it relates to people experiencing homelessness.
• Ability to communicate, both verbally and in writing and collate and evidence work and outcomes using case management databases.
• Knowledge of Psychologically Informed Frameworks.
• An understanding of the causes of homelessness and, in particular, the needs of people who are multiply-disadvantaged in their homelessness.
• Knowledge of housing pathways available to dual diagnosis clients and how to access them.
• A working knowledge of how to support people with either substance or mental health needs.

Working with the South West Peninsula ODN, The Hepatitis C Trust are now expanding this commitment through the introduction of the HCC (Hepatocellular Carcinoma) surveillance and early liver disease detection programme.

The GROW Traineeship gives people with experience of homelessness and other disadvantages (including but not limited to; experience of the criminal justice system, mental ill-health or substance misuse) access to paid employment, training and personal development opportunities. The traineeship lasts for up to 15 months, and each Trainee receives personalised training and enhanced support to give them the skills and confidence they need to secure meaningful employment at the end. We are looking for someone who is passionate about using their own experiences to help make change for people in Dorset experiencing bad housing and homelessness.

About the team

The team in Dorset is well-established and has been providing housing advice and support services within Dorset for over 20 years. With office bases in Bournemouth and Weymouth, we have contracts to deliver Housing First support in Dorset Council area and offer Legal Aid Advice, including a court desk service at Bournemouth and Weymouth County Courts.

We are active in our communities and strive to understand what housing issues people are experiencing; providing advice and advocacy to individuals and groups to empower them to resolve their situation.

About the role

This role will enable the successful candidate to have a broad understanding of local responses to the housing emergency and give a taster of what role different organisations play in this and would be ideal for someone who is looking to work in housing or homelessness services.

This role will work alongside, and be supported by the Dorset Hub team, based in Bournemouth, to improve the number of people taking part in lived experience activities within Bournemouth, (Dorset) Hub and the BCP Homelessness Partnership. You’ll attend and/or facilitate lived experience groups, people with experience of homelessness to speak up, be an ambassador to encourage partner organisations to involve people with lived experience and offer peer support and encouragement, using your own experience, to help other people participate. You will also contribute to communications from Dorset Hub and BCP Partnership, which highlight the local impact of the housing emergency and effective solutions.

You will be given extensive on the job training, support, and supervision, and will have access to a flexible personal budget to help in your own personal and professional development. Previous trainees have used the personal budget for things like mental health support, qualifications and training courses. The successful candidate will also have access to Shelter’s Employee Assistance Programme and will have dedicated wellbeing support.

About you

• You will have experience of homelessness and / or other disadvantages (e.g. experience of the criminal justice system, mental ill-health or substance misuse) and an understanding of how these experiences have affected you
