Independent Age is the national charity focused on improving the lives of people facing financial hardship in later life. We believe no one should face financial hardship in later life.

Our Helpline and expert advisers offer free, practical support to older people without enough money to live on. Through our grants programme, we support hundreds of local organisations working with older people across the UK. 

We use the knowledge and insight gained from our support services and partnerships to highlight the issues experienced by older people in poverty and campaign for change.

Responsibilities and Person Specification:

This role supports Independent Age’s media/ PR and social media programme, with a 50/50 split between these areas, and will help deliver our ambition to tackle poverty in later life, build the organisation’s reputation, and raise our profile across multimedia channels. 

Working closely with the Media Communications Manager and Senior Digital Content Officer, the post-holder will work on communication projects across all areas of the charity to raise awareness and understanding of Independent Age, grow our influence and drive potential supporters to our activities (including our information and advice, fundraising, volunteering and campaigning). 

You should have experience of media liaison and securing press coverage, as well as familiarity with all social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter/X, BlueSky, Instagram and LinkedIn), and ideally a foundational knowledge of the associated reporting and analytics for them.

This is a full-time role, 35 hours per week, which you can choose to work over five days or a 9-day fortnight.

This is a role where you will combine practical advice, problem solving and relationship building to help people take control of their support in a way that works for them.

The role will include:

• Providing clear, accessible advice about Direct Payments and how they work.
• Supporting people to understand their responsibilities, including employing Personal Assistants.
• Maintaining accurate records and supporting monitoring and audit processes.
• Includes working with a small team of advisors based in partner charities to provide holistic support.

The Direct Payment Support Advisor supports people to understand and manage their direct payments so they can make informed choices about their care and support. By providing clear, practical and compassionate guidance, the role helps residents maintain independence, confidence and connection to the lives and communities that matter to them.

This post is 35 hours per week on a fixed-term contract until March 2028 (contract extension based on funding).

Key Responsibilities -

To plan and implement high quality support and advocacy services for women affected by domestic violence who are deemed as being high risk.

Providing practical and emotional support to women and children affected by domestic violence. 

Offering advice and information and advocating for service users on a range of issues including homelessness, benefits, legal, social welfare issues etc. 

Developing and maintaining effective working relationships with external agencies 

Working within safeguarding guidelines to protect and promote the well-being of children and vulnerable adults.

We are looking for a dedicated and compassionate Helpline Advisor to support victims of crime at the growing National Contact Centre team in Cardiff.

This is a casual position, and applicants must be able to commit to a minimum of 2 x 7.5 hours shifts per month. The shifts will mainly be evenings and weekends to cover staff absence and busy periods.

About the role:

This role is based at our National Contact Centre in Cardiff. You will need to commit to a 2 week induction program, which will run Monday - Friday, 9am - 5pm.

As a Helpline Adviser you will:

• Able to respond to victims of and those affected by crime by providing emotional support, information and referrals on to Victim Support services and other agencies
• Providing immediate support, advice and trauma first aid referrals to victims of and those affected by major incidents and terrorism.
• Seamlessly working across multiple services with different processes, procedures and recording mechanisms.
• Managing and responding appropriately to competing priorities, services and needs.
• Responsible for taking disclosures and responding appropriately by either escalating the safeguarding concern to the 'Designated Safeguarding Officer' or to respond immediately to life threatening situations.

• Experience of managing a caseload and keeping clear case management records.
• Experience of adapting communication styles to be able to effectively communicate.
• An understanding of trauma informed practice and how to implement this within your work

Employment Advisor

Programme Overview

The Restart programme offers enhanced support to Universal Credit claimants who have been out of work for at least 6 months to find jobs in their local area. Starting at the end of June 2021, it will benefit more than 1 million Universal Credit claimants who are expected to look for and be available for work but have no sustained learnings. The scheme will provide up to 12 months of tailored support for each participant. Palladium will work with employers, local government, and other partners to deliver tailored support for individuals.

There role is based in our busy Southampton office with travel to Ringwood or Winchester.

The Employment Advisor will play a vital role in the success of the programme. They will be in charge of managing a case load of customers, working with them to create and follow an individualised workplan towards sustained employment. They have the ability to be a catalyst for change and really empower people to progress.

Primary Duties and responsibilities:

• Take responsibility and accountability for customers as assigned and working with them through to employment. This will include:
•  Assessing the customer’s starting position to decide how to best meet their needs. 
• Building rapport and a positive working relationship with each customer.
• Creating and following through with individualised action plans ensuring appropriate and effective activity is undertaken by each customer.
•  Address customer’s personal constraints to employment, providing challenge, advice, and guidance where appropriate to develop customers capability in the recruitment process ensuring they have the necessary skills and confidence to secure employment.
•  Identify, structure, and recommend vacancy and training solutions, working in close consultation with the team to meet the specific needs of customers and employers.
•  Maintain customer records to a required quality standard to ensure the customer journey is documented in accordance with our quality standards and contractual requirements.
•  Develop an understanding of specialist signposting services in the local area/region, building knowledge in areas such as specific disabilities, housing, benefits etc
• Meet personal performance targets, Key Performance Indicators and all Quality and Compliance measures by delivering high quality employability provision to customers, both remotely and face to face
• Develop relationships and networks with key stakeholders including employers, Job Centre teams and provisions and funding providers to ensure smooth operation of all processes.

About the role

Crisis is recruiting 2 x People Advisors to collaborate with a variety of Directorates including Client Services, Commerce and Enterprise, People and Resources, and Policy and Social Change. The roles will work closely with other People Team colleagues to enable the People and Culture function to boldly deliver an excellent service to Crisis’s managers and people.

These are varied and exciting roles, with a primary focus on managing employee relations caseloads, alongside opportunities to contribute to People and Culture policies, wellbeing initiatives and project work to make a positive impact across the directorates you support.

As a People Advisor, you will be given autonomy to apply your expertise in employee relations, engagement, and people policy to provide customer focussed, pragmatic, and credible advice to managers ensuring equitable practices throughout as priority. These are fantastic opportunities in a supportive and friendly team!

About you

To be successful in these roles you will have experience of advising on a range of employment areas. You will be able to demonstrate how you’ve advised and supported managers through, sometimes complex ER issues, to reach a resolution. You will be confident in your knowledge, ability and interpretation of employment law and best practice, and comfortable building relationships with colleagues, to provide appropriate challenge. You will be interested in shaping People and Culture policy and implementing modern practices.

It would be desirable for one of the roles if you have experience of providing People (HR) support in a charity retail environment with the ability to travel and meet with our managers on site across our London shops and warehouse. Both roles will support some of our client services across the UK so occasional travel to some of our regional locations would be required to support the leadership teams on site.

What the job involves

As our Senior People Services Manager, you’ll lead the day-to-day heartbeat of People Services and make sure every colleague has a smooth, supportive and high-quality experience throughout their time with us.

You’ll be the person who keeps things running brilliantly: setting the pace for operational delivery, supporting managers with confidence, and making sure our processes are simple, clear and compliant – ensuring delivery through an experienced and high-performing People Services Team. You’ll work closely with People & Culture, Finance, IT and leaders across the charity to drive a consistent, joined up service that helps people do their best work.

This is a hands-on leadership role partnering with People & Culture leadership and peers to drive the People Strategy and foster a high-performance, inclusive culture. You’ll shape how we deliver People Services, spotting ways to improve, simplify and modernise what we do. You’ll lead a team covering critical activity relating to all stages of the employee lifecycle, from onboarding, contracts, HR systems and data, payroll oversight, policies and employee relations, and you’ll be the operational authority and escalation point for complex or high-risk issues.

• Leading and developing the People Services & Payroll team so they have clarity, support and space to thrive.

With your expert specialist knowledge and experience in the Welfare Benefits advice area you’ll be able to apply this within the cancer community at a crucial time for these individuals to meet their needs as a Welfare Benefits First Contact Advisor and join us in a 3 Year Fixed Term Contract.

The Tenovus Macmillan Welfare Benefits First Contact Advisor Role Details

This is a first line, important and meaningful holistic information and advice-giving role for an experienced Welfare Benefits Advisor. It’s about using information you collect to provide immediate welfare benefits advice and guidance, and/or refer, escalate and signpost seamlessly to other colleagues and services according to client needs.

It’s a rewarding welfare benefits job working with people with a cancer diagnosis. It’s one where you’ll make an immediate difference through your practical and sound advice, existing customer service skills and knowledge and experience in the welfare benefits area.

The role is primarily home based with Cardiff Head Office working welcome. You’ll need to be flexible to commute to Cardiff as required with a higher concentration of days during your induction and probation period for training and team interaction on at least a monthly basis.

Working as part of a Financial Health and Wellbeing service, you’ll be making a first line assessment to determine urgency and priority for new client referrals gathering key financial and health information. Your work is mainly done over the phone but may also be in person or digitally where you’ll be advising and making decisions on next actions including giving advice to complete your cases, referring on or escalating the most complex cases.

Service referrals may come from cancer medical professionals or self-referrals from cancer patients. What’s important is you understand the whole picture and gather the right level of financial health information to give appropriate financial benefits advice and signpost to other services from the start of the relationship, so all potential cancer support opportunities are handled professionally.

Our service user experience is key, you’ll make sure the way you work is professional and personable and quality. You’ll be supporting and advising your own caseload of clients with a chronic cancer condition or a life-limiting cancer prognosis so knowledge of working with people with disabilities, people too ill to work or in a distressing situation is something you can comfortably manage in a targeted environment.

IMO Liaison Advisor

The International Transport Workers’ Federation (ITF) is a global union federation representing transport workers across more than 150 countries. We bring together unions to fight for rights, equality, and dignity for transport workers worldwide.

We are seeking an IMO Liaison Advisor to support the ITF’s engagement with the International Maritime Organization (IMO), contributing to the development of policy, research, and technical work that advances the rights and safety of seafarers globally.

About the role

Reporting to the IMO Representative, you will play a key role in supporting the ITF’s work with the IMO. You will provide high-quality research, analysis, and technical input to inform submissions, policy positions, and advocacy.

Working with colleagues, affiliates, and external stakeholders, you will help ensure that the ITF’s maritime safety and regulatory work is evidence-based, well-coordinated, and effectively communicated. You will also work closely with the ITF Permanent Representative to support alignment between IMO engagement and wider ITF priorities at the International Labour Organization (ILO), reflecting the increasing interconnection between global maritime and labour regulatory frameworks.

Key responsibilities include:

• Conducting research and analysis to support ITF submissions and engagement with the IMO
• Providing technical and policy input on maritime regulations and issues affecting seafarers’ rights and safety
• Drafting briefings, fact sheets, and other materials for internal stakeholders and affiliated unions
• Supporting the development and implementation of work plans and strategies related to IMO engagement

About you

• Experience of multi agency working
