Are you passionate about animal welfare? We are looking for an enthusiastic person who understands charity finance to support us in our mission to prevent cruelty, promote kindness and alleviate the suffering of animals.
We are looking for someone to volunteer as a Branch Treasurer for our Tunbridge Wells & Maidstone Branch. This role would play a vital role in supporting the Branches affairs so that it is governed and managed effectively, whilst continually having animal welfare at the forefront of their mind.
As a minimum, trustees would normally be expected to attend a committee meeting every other month lasting 2 hours either in person or virtually (can alternate). However, the commitment may vary depending on whether or not the trustee takes on additional duties.
Primary responsibilities of the Branch Treasurer
aintain sound financial systems.
- Take a lead role in ensuring the committee set annual financial budgets and plan the branch income and expenditure.
- Provide a written financial report for every branch meeting.
- Liaise with auditors/independent examiners regarding the production of the annual branch accounts and the treasurer’s report.
- Maintain control of all bank accounts as authorised by the committee.
- Execute and operate branch committee financial decisions and act as branch co-signatory.
- Maintain control over all branch paying-in books and receipt books and to ensure their correct use.
- In the absence of a branch box secretary, to assume responsibility for the branch network of collection boxes.
- Arrange payment of the annual branch contribution to the appropriate RSPCA fund.
- Coordinate financial control of all branch fundraising activities.
- Make quarterly VAT returns to headquarters promptly.
- Ensure the production, monitoring and annual review of the branch’s financial risk management strategy in accordance with the charity commission’s requirements.
- Liaise with branch officers, branch support specialist and Branch finance co-ordinator on Financial affairs as necessary and alert them immediately to any possible difficulties or irregularities.
- Ensure the retention and safekeeping of all branch financial documentation for the appropriate time as set by the charity commission.
What we are looking for in a volunteer:
- We are particularly looking for someone who has knowledge and experience in finance, who may already understand charity finance.
- As a trustee, you would be able to dedicate the time to attend monthly committee meetings, which last approximately 3 hours.
- In between meetings, there will be additional volunteer duties such as; providing financial reports at committee meetings, monitoring the budget which has been set by the trustees for the year, processing payments, querying invoices, doing VAT returns, and processing Gift Aid claims.
Our trustee roles are subject to an informal interview and introduction period when you will have the opportunity to meet your fellow committee members and attend committee meetings as an observer . We will ask you to provide contact details for two referees, and will be subject to independent eligibility checks. Our charity is about to begin a period of transformational change. We deliver educational opportunities to support best practice in infection prevention and control through an annual conference, study days, our academic journal, and research activity. The IPS has an independent Board of Trustees who are responsible for governance and risk management functions of the society. These include developing long-term strategy, assuring financial stability and compliance with governing documents, and evaluating performance. The Board works with the Management Executive Group (MEG) who are responsible for leading and managing the business activity of the Society.
Who are we looking for?
Our new trustee must have skills in both of the following areas:

The trustee will chair our Audit and Finance Committee and as such will need to be a qualified accountant with a CCAB recognised qualification.

The Board of Trustees hold a minimum of four meetings per year and trustees are also expected to attend the Annual General meeting which is held in the autumn.

Our Board of Directors
The FrameWorks UK Board currently has a four Non-Executive Board Directors including a Chair. The Board is legally, morally, and financially responsible for the organisation. Like most charity Trustees, the Board are not renumerated.
As the organisation grows, we are seeking a fifth Board Director with financial expertise to assume the role of Treasurer. This might mean professional qualifications, skills and/or experience in a finance or accounting role. Experience of the not-for-profit sector is especially desirable.
The purpose of this new, additional Board Director - along with the other Board Directors – is to provide strategic direction to the Executive Director and ensure effective governance and strategic leadership of FrameWorks UK and delivery of its mission and vision.
The Board is chaired by Sally Bacon OBE. The three Board Directors are Dr Franklin Gilliam, Imran Hussain, and Dr Deborah Phillips. The UK Board works closely with the Board of FrameWorks Institute in the US, our parent company.
Person Specification
· Commitment to the mission and values of FrameWorks UK.
· Ability to exercise financial oversight of the organisation.
· Experience working in, or closely with, the UK not-for-profit sector.
· Experience of working collaboratively with Board Directors and Executive Director to drive strategic direction and effective leadership.
· Some understanding of FrameWorks UK’s research methods and approach.
· Experience influencing social change, ideally through strategic communications.
· Understanding and acceptance of the legal duties and responsibilities of being a Board Director of a not-for-profit organisation.
· Ability to make strategic decisions in line with the organisation’s governance arrangements.
· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work with other Board Directors, the Executive Director, and a range of external stakeholders and communicate clearly, accurately, with diplomacy and cordiality.
· Willingness to speak on the behalf of the organisation.
It is not expected that every Board Director has each of these skills and experience on joining the Board. Rather, we are seeking a Board that has all these skills and this experience between them.
Principal responsibilities of Board Directors
Strategic leadership
With the other Board Directors, to provide leadership to FrameWorks UK and its Executive Director, ensuring maximum impact of the organisation. This includes participating in effective governance and ensuring the organisation operates in a way that is consistent with its articles of association and the inter-company agreement with FrameWorks in the US.
Governance
Ensure effective governance arrangements, engaging in the development of the Board and ensuring their knowledge and keeps pace with current and future organisational developments.
Financial oversight
Provide effective financial oversight and ensure that it is managed in a way that strengthens its financial sustainability.
External Relations
To occasionally act as an ambassador for FrameWorks UK, for example, speaking on behalf the organisation.
Efficiency and effectiveness
Participate in meetings of the Board effectively and efficiently, bringing impartiality and objectivity to the decision-making process while ensuring that decisions are taken in the best interests of FrameWorks UK.
Relationship with the Executive
Establish and build a strong, effective and a constructive working relationship with the Executive Director, contributing to the process of holding the Executive Director to account for achieving agreed strategic objectives.
Business Development
Supporting the work of the Executive Director by assisting with identifying new funding streams and opportunities as appropriate.
Terms of the appointment
This is an unpaid position. All reasonable out of pocket expenses will be reimbursed in accordance with FrameWorks UK’s expenses policy.
There is no fixed time commitment for the role, but we estimate a time commitment of around eight days per year is required. This includes Board Meetings (usually three hours long and held quarterly), preparation for these meetings, and may also include representing the organisation at various events and meetings with the Executive Director (and accountants) in relation to financial matters.
Board meetings are usually held online. When they do happen in person, they will ordinarily be in London, but other meetings may be required from time to time across the UK.
Board Members are appointed for a fixed term of three years. This can be renewed for a further three-year term at the request of the Chair, and by approval of the UK and US Boards.

We are looking for an experience finance professional to strengthen our financial systems, improve the efficiency of accounting procedures and administration to best inform strategic planning at CPRE London.
This role reports to the Director and responsibilities include:
- Manage and improve processes for managing CPRE London’s finances, including:
- Facilitating online payments including payroll, tax and NI arrangements for staff
- Facilitating NEST pension payments
- Creating invoices and monitoring whether these have been paid
- Helping monitor whether all expected income has been received
- Paying in cheques or CAF vouchers
- Maintaining a record of income and expenditure on Quickbooks bringing this up to date monthly – furnishing Director with summary of income and expenditure
- Supplying information to the Treasurer for quarterly trustee reports, the annual report and preparation of budgets and providing advice on its presentation
- Assisting in ensuring CPRE London meets its charitable responsibilities, including the submission of Charity Commission returns, completion of year-end accounts and preparing information for and working with auditors
- Making Gift Aid claims to HMRC and keeping records for inspection.

Skills and experience
- Experience of bookkeeping and essential accounting procedures. CPRE London uses Quickbooks Online so experience of Quickbooks and/or similar online accounting systems is highly desirable.
- Excellent understanding of Excel.
- A commitment to environmental issues
There will also be opportunities to get involved in other areas of the charity’s work such as administration of the Hedgerow Heroes programme if candidate interest and capacity allows. This could include hands on involvement with planting activities as well as the logistics behind the programme.
