With an ageing population, more and more older people are at risk of isolation and loneliness as partners and friends pass away, children and grandchildren move away and the community around them changes at a fast pace. As a Befriender you will become part of the solution to tackling the issues of isolation and loneliness by developing strong relationships with clients and encouraging them to engage in a variety of ways.
Main activities/tasks:
- Visit an older person in their home once a week for up to 2h
- Spend time getting to know them and to understand what things they may like to do at home (e.g. chess, knitting, reading)
- Offer healthy and fun conversation and encourage them to talk
- Give support to enable them to get out in the community and encourage participation in activities.
- Promote healthy living and wellbeing.
- Accompany on hospital visits or to the GP. Go for a walk, or shopping
- Support older person to find information as requested.
- Make monthly reports on visits carried out

About the role

It continues to be a challenging time for the charity sector with 80% of charities exploring cost-cutting measures. We are looking for a trustee who has experience and knowledge of charity finance and the current income challenges.
Young people’s mental health
In 2023/24, we saw increasing numbers of people with complex mental health issues and safeguarding concerns. We are keen to expand our work and expertise in this area so that we can further support young people.
Violence against women & girls
At least one in 12 women are victims of violence against women and girls every year with over one in four women being a survivor of sexual assault in their lifetimes. The true figure is likely to be much higher. We are looking for a trustee who will be able to support Brook to expand our work in this vital area.

Volunteer Mentor – Make a Difference in a Young Person’s Life
What if one hour a week could change a young person’s life - and yours too?
About Us
MAPS Mentoring is an award-winning early-intervention project that supports vulnerable children and young people in the London Borough of Sutton. Our dedicated volunteers provide a safe, supportive space for young people facing challenges such as low self-esteem, difficult family relationships, abuse, bereavement, or self-harm. Through mentoring, we empower mentees to unpack their experiences, build confidence, and find their voice.
About the Role
We’re looking for Volunteer Mentors to join our MAPS Mentoring team. As a mentor, you’ll meet with a young person in Sutton for 1-2 hours weekly over the course of a year. Meetings are flexible and can take place in the evenings, weekends, or during the week for our older mentees, or for in-school mentoring.
No prior experience is needed - just a genuine desire to make a difference in a young person’s life.
With a budget provided for food, drinks, activities, and travel, you and your mentee can choose what to do together. Whether it’s casual coffee chats, dog walks, or saving up for more adventurous outings like GoKarting, Thorpe Park trips, or even indoor skydiving, the choice is yours!
What We’re Looking For

- basic science research
- non-clinical CF professions (e.g. psychology or social worker)
As part of our long-term succession planning, we would also welcome interest from candidates who may be open to taking on additional Board leadership responsibilities in the future, e.g. Chair, treasurer, or committee roles.

About the Role
As a trustee, you’ll join the board of a not-for-profit or charitable organisation, helping to guide its strategy, ensure financial sustainability, and uphold its purpose. Key responsibilities include:

Military Wives Choirs connect over 1700 women in the military community and create a support network through the power of singing. Our Data and Technology Trustee will contribute strategic advice on how MWC manage their technology and data to be compliant, minimise risks to the organisation and to keep up to date with, and take advantage of, developments in a way that recognises the budget and the scale of the organisation. Working closely with the Choir Support Team, they will support the long-term sustainability of the charity by providing strategic direction for their data and technology assets and initiatives. The Trustee will have experience in a broad range of technology leadership roles, understanding of IT procurement, an ability to operate at both strategic and operational levels and able to advise the Board on how it could make ethical use of AI with appropriate safeguards. The Trustee will attend four Board meetings a year - three are virtual and one, usually in the autumn, is in person. They will also be required to attend a Board Awayday in January each year, usually in London and attend a Governance Committee meeting, virtually, each quarter. It's an exciting time to launch our new charity with the new government's focus on getting people back to work or in training and development. There will be plenty of opportunities for us to make a huge impact, but we need to set the foundations and get ourselves ready to launch.
HR and Volunteering Manager:
We are looking for an HR and Volunteering Manager who can join our new charity start-up and help us build a solid foundation. You will be responsible for setting up and managing all aspects of our HR and volunteering programmes at Unlock YOUR Potential.
You will be responsible for:

HR Programme Development and Management: Set up, develop, and manage the HR programme. Design and implement initiatives that enhance HR practices and volunteer management.

Volunteer Recruitment and Retention: Develop strategies to recruit, train, and retain volunteers. Ensure volunteers are engaged and supported.

Partnership Building: Collaborate with local businesses, educational institutions, and other stakeholders to create partnerships and opportunities.

Monitoring and Evaluation: Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of the HR and volunteering programmes, making adjustments as needed.

Team Leadership: Lead and support a team of dedicated volunteers and staff.

Fundraising and Outreach: Contribute to fundraising, grant applications, and community outreach efforts.

Communication and Collaboration: Ensure effective communication and collaboration within the organisation.

Key Responsibilities
