We are also determined to help turn feedback into action. We do this by a combination of identifying, sharing and promoting best practice via Awards, thought leadership and consultancy services.
About the Role
As part of the Charity’s Board of Trustees, you will be responsible for overseeing the strategic direction, financial management and governance of the organisation to ensure that at every step we are working to improve people’s experiences of health and social care services. To achieve this, you will:
- Ensure that the organisation works within its mission and charitable objectives and is compliant with charity and company law within the jurisdictions within which it is registered and operates.
- Further the charitable objectives of the organisation, including promoting our mission and staying true to our values.
- Ensure that the organisation’s policies, practice, performance, and operations are in keeping with our aims and objectives.
Responsibilities
Members of the Board of Trustees are expected to:
- Be an active and engaged member of the Trustee group.
- Take part in regular board meetings with a frequency of 6 to 8 meetings each year.
- Undertake work outside board meetings, eg preparation and reading.
- Participate in sub-committees, reflecting trustees’ policies or concerns or provide high level input to defined organisational projects from time to time.
- Interact, respond to and provide constructive challenge to our staff and other board members.
- Occasionally attend our launches and presentations of our work, alongside our staff at events and receptions.
- Occasionally represent Picker at meetings with potential funders or influencers.
- Contribute your skills, interests and contacts and support us in fulfilling our mission and in our influencing and developmental activities.
- Support, coach and help empower our staff to achieve their potential and deliver their goals.
- Take part in any training sessions provided.
- Fulfil any other duties and assignments as may be required from time to time by the Board.
- Act as an advocate for Picker in your activities in other settings.
Commitment
The full Board of Trustees meets every two months, usually in Oxford or remotely via video conference. There may be sub committees, with authority delegated to them by the Board, meeting at other intervals; and staff may seek to consult with you on your particular expertise. Occasionally, you may also be asked to represent Picker at meetings with potential funders or influencers, attend our report or product launches, or work alongside staff at events and receptions. We expect the typical commitment to be around one to two days per month.
Pay range and compensation package
This is an unpaid post, though reasonable expenses incurred through performance of duties will be reimbursed.
Qualifications
Applicants must be committed to the values and vision of Picker and committed to understanding and using people’s perspectives to improve health and social care. Demonstrable passion and commitment to person centred care for health and social care users, their carers and families, and staff is essential.
Required Skills
A background in one or more of the following areas is very desirable for these appointments:
- Communications – with experience of raising the profile of a similar sized charity or organisation to Picker.
- Business development – with expertise in identifying new opportunities to create long term impact.
- Finance experience – with a keen eye for numbers, although you do not necessarily need to be financially qualified.
- Health service – with experience as a user of health and care services, as a researcher in health and social care or as a health service practitioner or manager, whether in the NHS, the private sector, or internationally.
- Social care – with experience of working in or managing a social care provider or elsewhere in the sector.
Preferred Skills
Experience, knowledge, and skills:
- A commitment to the aims and strategic objectives of Picker and the ambitions of its growth strategy.
- A commitment to understanding and using the patient, client, service user, or consumer perspective in health and social care.
- Knowledge and experience of the governance and management principles of a charity registered in England or Scotland (desirable).
- The ability to work supportively with other Trustees, advisers, and executive colleagues to high ethical and professional standards and in line with their legal responsibilities.
- A proven strategic thinker with experience of operating at a senior management level.
- A skilled communicator who is experienced in persuading, influencing, and advising.
- A demonstrable interest in health and/or social care issues and social policy within the UK and/or overseas.
- A commitment to transformational change and learning, improvement and performance.

ROLE OVERVIEW
As the Safeguarding representative on the Board of Trustees, your primary responsibility is to ensure that safeguarding is embedded in all aspects of the AdAmi Project’s work. You will provide support, oversight, and guidance to help protect the young mothers we serve.
Summary of additional responsibilities:
1. Leadership & Oversight

Serve as the Trustee’s lead for safeguarding and provide an update at quarterly Board of Trustee meetings.

Provide oversight on safeguarding practices with our local partners and respond to any concerns appropriately.
2. Policy & Practice

Support the implementation and regular review of safeguarding policies and practices for AdAmi UK and our local partners.

Ensure policies comply with UK Charity Commission guidance and are appropriately contextualised to Sierra Leone.
3. Training & Awareness

Ensure all staff, volunteers and Trustees at AdAmi UK and our local partners receive appropriate safeguarding training on a regular basis.

Promote a safeguarding culture and continuously share best practices.
4. Monitoring & Reporting

Regularly review safeguarding reports and incident logs.

Advise on managing safeguarding concerns or disclosures.

Support risk assessments related to safeguarding.
Required commitment:

Attend quarterly Board of Trustee meetings held virtually for up to two hours.

Liaise with local partners to review quarterly safeguarding reports and provide feedback on safeguarding best practices, as well as ensure teams receive refresher training at least once annually.

Ad hoc preparation and/or review of key safeguarding documents and policies.

Represent the Board of Trustees at AdAmi Project fundraising and awareness raising events, as and when is required (a few times a year, maximum).

Role Overview
The Safeguarding Trustee will provide guidance so that Migrant Help meets all safeguarding obligations and promotes a culture of safeguarding at every level. They will provide expert oversight, policy guidance, and support for the embedding of best practices across the organisation. The Safeguarding Trustee will work closely with senior leadership to provide oversight of the way that the organisation remains compliant with safeguarding regulations.
Key responsibilities
- Maintain an awareness and understanding of the Charity Commission's safeguarding regulations, responsibilities, and safeguarding good practice through training, conferences, and guidance review.
- Review the Charity’s safeguarding policies annually.
- Be aware of statutory safeguarding processes and policies, acting as a point of reference for the Designated Safeguarding Lead, as needed, and as assurance on behalf of the Board, for guidance on statutory and legislative safeguarding matters for issues in all four countries in the UK.
- Assess the monitoring reporting for safeguarding policy and procedural effectiveness from both internal and external reviews.
- Consider the Charity’s strategic plans and make sure they comply with safeguarding legislation and regulations specific to our activities, statutory guidance, and the safeguarding expectations of the Charity Commission.
- Review the Charity’s risk register for inclusion of safeguarding risks with sensible measures in place or planned, including relevant insurance for trustees’ indemnity, providing assurance to the Board that safeguarding risks are being managed appropriately by the organisation’s staff.
- Lead on the standing action item at the Board of Trustees meetings regarding safeguarding.
- Trustees share collective responsibility for the charity’s governance, ensuring the charity’s mission is achieved and its operations are effective. Trustees support the CEO by contributing to strategic planning, offering expertise, and working together to provide the necessary oversight and direction for the charity’s growth and success. The Safeguarding Trustee has the additional responsibility to fulfil this for safeguarding processes.
The skills and abilities you need
- Professional experience in safeguarding children or adults, with a means to keep informed of current legislation and good practice.
- Ability to work with short notice to give urgent Safeguarding advice and practical steps to the Safeguarding Lead.
- Understanding and having a ground-level aspect of referral processes to link clients in the services when giving Safeguarding advice.
- Ability to advise and support the Designated Safeguarding Lead and Safeguarding Manager within the Charity.
- Act with integrity and respect when working with others.
- A social work qualification is welcome but not essential.
- Direct practical experience is essential.
Mandatory Training Requirement
The Safeguarding Trustee must complete trustee governance and safeguarding training within the first three months of appointment. Additional training will follow as needed.
Terms of Appointment
Trustees serve an initial three-year term, with the option for renewal up to a maximum of a second term of three years.
Time Commitment:
- 8 hours per month, including:
- Quarterly board meetings, preferably with in-person attendance.
- Safeguarding Operations Group – monthly, via Teams.
- Annual half-day strategy session to contribute to the charity’s direction.
- Regular Teams/telephone discussion with the Designated Safeguarding Lead averaging half an hour a week.
- Must visit at least once with the Heads of Service or alone to a regional office once per year.

We're looking for Tin Coordinator Volunteers in Walsall and the surrounding areas!
Tin Coordinators are responsible for placing, collecting and replacing collection tins in their local area. This involves going into local businesses (e.g. shops, restaurants, bars) that already have our collection tins approximately every six months to check if the tin is full and replacing it with a new one. Additionally, we would like you to continually be on the look out for new venues who may be willing to have a tin. You know your local area best so are perfectly placed to find new venues!
How much time will it take?
Being a Tin Coordinator is a flexible role and requires relatively low commitment. You can place tins whilst out and about walking, socialising, and running your regular errands. Each tin can stay at a location for at least six months before it will need replacing, and you will only be asked to work with tins in your local area so there is no travelling time.

What your role will involve
There are a variety of tasks that you can get involved with in the shop, including:
- Welcoming and assisting customers, providing great customer service and a fantastic shopping experience
- Receiving donated goods from members of the public
- Sorting, steaming, tagging and preparing donated goods for sale
- Creating eye catching window and in-shop displays
- Keeping the shop floor well stocked, tidy, clean and organised
- Processing sales and serving on the till
- Promoting Gift Aid and other Sense fundraising initiatives
- Acting as an ambassador for Sense; promoting the shop and Sense in your local community
- Supporting with the recruitment and training of new volunteers
- Following new health and safety measures to ensure the safety of everyone

We're building a diverse community of tutors passionate about educational equity. We are seeking dedicated volunteers from all walks of life to tutor and support pupils facing socio-economic disadvantage in maths and English.
As a volunteer tutor, you’ll:

Tutor a group of 1-3 pupils (primary or secondary), with options to support online or in-person.

Dedicate just one hour a week for a 10-20 week programme.
We provide the resources - you bring your enthusiasm! You’ll use our workbooks to deliver your sessions.
Whether you're a university student, a working professional, retired or simply looking to give back, your hour a week can open doors to brighter futures for these young people and make a lasting impact.
What you'll gain:

Comprehensive training (2-hour induction, technical training for online tutors, optional further skills training).

We look for volunteers with:

Solid subject knowledge in the area they wish to tutor, which may be demonstrated by a degree or grade B at A-level qualification (or equivalent) or relevant experience.

The ability to explain concepts clearly and patiently.

A commitment to supporting pupils’ academic progress.
We recognise that valuable experience can be gained through diverse routes. If your qualifications differ from those mentioned, we still encourage you to apply. Please highlight any relevant experience or skills in your application.
We welcome applications from volunteers across England, Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland. (Please note: This is a volunteer, unpaid position.)
Our programmes run during term time, and you can sign up at ay time throughout the year.

Bright Futures UK is looking for passionate and knowledgeable KS3 Science tutors to provide educational support and a fun, safe learning environment for young people living with long-term illnesses.
What will you be doing?
- Run tutoring sessions online to support a young person.
- Offer subject area knowledge and expertise related to KS3 Science.
- Help to combat social isolation through fun and engaging tutoring sessions.
What are we looking for?
- Subject Knowledge: Strong understanding of KS2 and KS3 Science concepts and specifications.
- Teaching Skills: Ability to explain complex ideas in a clear and engaging way.
- Empathy and Patience: Kind and understanding nature, especially towards those facing health challenges.
- Reliability: Consistent availability for the agreed-upon time commitment.
- You must be a UK resident and be at least 18 years old.
