Team up with fellow volunteers in our North Northumberland and Scottish Borders Fundraising Group to help plan and deliver exciting local events that help raise vital funds for amazing assistance dogs. You’ll meet monthly, share ideas, plan activities, and be the friendly face of Canine Partners in your community.
About the opportunity
This role involves being an active member of the North Northumberland and Scottish Borders Fundraising Group, working alongside fellow volunteers to arrange fundraising events in the local community. You would attend regular group meetings in Milfield to discuss upcoming activities and ensure plans are in place for events throughout the year.
What’s involved
- Work with your fellow group volunteers to organise fundraising events and activities to raise money for Canine Partners
- Taking on tasks to assist with the organisation of fundraising events
- Liaising with the Fundraising Group Leader to organise events and keep Canine Partners updated
- Being the public face of Canine Partners within your local area

Our Board is made up of a small, committed group of trustees who bring a mix of professional expertise and personal connection to our cause. Together, we oversee a grant-making charity that has a long heritage and a clear ambition: to increase our income and ensure we can support more children and young people with cerebral palsy in meaningful, practical ways.
Like many small charities, our challenge is balancing strong governance with growth. We are financially stable and well run, but we want to think more strategically about our future: how we prioritise funding, how we grow awareness and income, and how we ensure every grant we make delivers real, lasting benefit for families. The new trustee will play an active role in shaping these conversations and helping the Board move confidently from steady state to sustainable growth.
The role is hands-on and collaborative. Trustees are expected to attend four board meetings a year, contribute thoughtfully to discussion and decision-making, and engage between meetings when specific issues arise. Depending on interest and experience, the new trustee may also be invited to take a lead role in an area of work or join a small working group, for example around fundraising development, investment oversight, or grant assessment.
This is an opportunity to influence how limited charitable funds are used where they matter most. We support people who have combined sight and hearing loss which affects their access to information, mobility and communication.

We ensure all volunteers who join our team are well equipped to undertake any tasks and will provide training and supervision throughout your journey with us. Any specific training will be outlined within your onboarding and induction stages and then discussed at your reviews with your named lead contact.
All materials to support your role will be supplied by Deafblind UK, including a fundraising pack with ideas for raising money and all the information you might need. The Fundraising Team will also be on hand to provide ongoing support, advice, and guidance.
Deafblindness affects everyone in different ways. Some people might have mild sight and hearing loss whereas others can’t see or hear anything. It can be isolating and lonely and can lead to mental health issues - but it’s far more common than many people realise. Around 450,000 people are affected by sight and hearing loss in the UK.
We support people who have combined sight and hearing loss which affects their access to information, mobility and communication.
Location: Remote (with occasional in-person meetings)
Time commitment: Approx. 6–10 hours per month
Term: 2 years (renewable)

About MS Together
MS Together is a charity focused on supporting young adults (18–35) living with multiple sclerosis. We provide peer support, accessible information, and inclusive events to help young people feel less alone and more empowered to live well with MS. We're a small, dynamic charity rooted in lived experience. We’re particularly keen to hear from people who have experience in one or more of the following areas:
- Fundraising or income generation
- Marketing, communications and digital engagement
- Finance and accounting
- Legal and governance
- Data protection and data management
- EDI in service design / delivery
- Lived experience of MS or a strong understanding of long-term health conditions and the challenges faced by young people
However, you don’t need to have previous board experience – we welcome first-time trustees and offer support and training to help you thrive in the role
Your key responsibilities as a trustee:
- Attend and contribute to quarterly board meetings (held remotely)
- Provide strategic guidance and oversight of our activities and finances
- Support the CEO and staff team where relevant, using your skills and experience
- Act as an ambassador for MS Together and promote our work
- Ensure the charity complies with its governing document, charity law, and best practice
- Help safeguard the long-term sustainability and integrity of the charity
