Join Life Cycle’s Bikes Beyond Bars project, an award-winning environmental and social initiative that combines bike recycling, skills training, and rehabilitation.

What you’ll do

• Work alongside course participants in prison workshops, helping them to refurbish a wide range of donated bikes.
• Support learners to develop practical cycle maintenance skills and work towards an industry-recognised professional qualification.
• Provide hands-on assistance alongside experienced Prison Bike Mechanic Tutors.
• Contribute to a positive, supportive learning environment that boosts confidence, employability, and community integration.

By helping refurbish bikes that would otherwise go to waste. You’ll also make a meaningful impact on the participants’ journey toward rehabilitation, helping them gain training that can open doors to future employment.

About you

• Someone who enjoys practical, hands-on work
• Good mechanical skills (if you’re unsure, get in touch!)
• Sympathetic to working with people in prison
• You believe in the possibility of change for those who have been involved in the criminal justice system

Please note, applicants need to be aware that due to the nature of this role you will be required to be vetted up to Enhanced Level 1 security clearance.Having a criminal record will not necessarily exclude you from volunteering in this role.Give us a ring if you would like to talk about it first.

Role Summary.

As a QA Reviewer at Roots Academy, you'll work closely with Regional Leads and the QA team to help maintain and raise the quality of teaching across our programmes. Your role is to support our instructors by regularly observing lessons, offering constructive feedback, and encouraging their continued growth and development.

Your input will help ensure that students benefit from lessons that are clear, engaging, and rooted in sound educational practice.

Key tasks

· Observe lessons via site visits or submitted video recordings throughout the semester.

· Use standardised forms to assess lesson quality and highlight key strengths and areas that could be improved.

· Offer honest and practical feedback, using real examples to guide instructors toward better practice.

· Work alongside Regional Leads to deliver feedback at set points in the semester and support instructor development conversations.

· Attend feedback meetings and take notes to track progress and follow-up actions.

· Recommend helpful activities for instructors, such as shadowing experienced colleagues, team teaching, or reviewing their own lessons.

· Keep track of instructors needing additional support by scheduling follow-up visits or reviewing new lesson recordings.

· Make sure feedback is received, understood, and followed up with clear next steps.

· Raise any serious concerns or ongoing issues with the Regional Lead or relevant team members.

What we’re looking for

· Background in teaching, mentoring, or classroom observation.

· A supportive but honest approach to giving feedback.

· Good understanding of what makes a lesson effective and engaging.

· Confident communicator with good organisation skills.

· Able to work both independently and as part of a wider team.

· Respectful of diverse backgrounds and familiar with Islamic learning settings.

Our volunteers bring people together for shared online learning experiences, based on positive psychology, that boost the wellbeing of everyone involved.

Our groups and courses can be run online or in-person in your local area.

- The amazing 6-week Happiness Habits Course is designed to be run by pairs of volunteers.  It features expert videos, science-backed exercises and the chance to form meaningful connections. Our course has been specially designed to gather the insights of the world's leading experts on six fundamental aspects of a happy and meaningful life: Gratitude, Self-Care, Relationships, Resilience, Kindness, and Meaning. It is a very impactful (many say life-changing) experience.

- Alternatively, you can get involved by supporting a Monthly Group, bringing like-minded people together to learn evidence-based tools for creating a happier and more meaningful life. Explore the monthly themes and encourage people to set personal actions towards happiness, that support both themselves and others.

What is the time commitment?

You'll need to set aside a couple of hours for the training initially and a few more for planning your course or group and connecting with your co-volunteer. Then you'll need a couple of hours per session for facilitating (x6 weekly sessions for a course, or x1 session per month for a group).

School governors are people who want to make a positive contribution to children’s education. Governors are needed to support and challenge schools to help realise their potential.

Anyone with an interest in education can be a governor. Governors are volunteers who work to further the school’s development.

The governing board consists of people from the school’s community, parents, school staff and representatives of the council.

Together with the headteacher they set the future direction for the school and decide how the school’s budget should be spent.

Use your interest in tech to support independence. Sight Support Worthing (SSW) is looking for Tech Support Volunteers to help blind and partially sighted people get the most from their devices. Whether it’s setting up accessibility features, troubleshooting an app, or installing a smart speaker, your support can make everyday tasks easier and more empowering.

This is a great opportunity to build experience in assistive technology or charity work while making a meaningful difference in the community.

Role: Tech Support Volunteer

Reporting to: Tech Advisors

Hours/Days: To be agreed

Location: Sight Support Worthing, Rowlands Road, and home visits (company vehicle available if required).

Role Description

Tech Support Volunteers provide one-to-one support to clients with their phones, tablets, computers, and other devices. Support may take place during tech drop-in sessions at our centre or via pre-arranged home visits for those unable to travel or using non-portable devices. The hours and time commitments are flexible depending on your availability, but we require volunteers to commit to a minimum of 3 sessions of 1 hour per month.

Full training and equipment are provided, and reasonable travel expenses will be reimbursed.

What You Will Be Doing

• Giving basic advice and support at tech support drop-in sessions
• Visiting clients at their homes
• Advising on assistive devices, apps, and accessibility features
• Troubleshooting basic issues with devices or connectivity
• Setting up smart speakers and other simple devices

Skills & Qualities

We’re looking for volunteers who are:

• Friendly, patient, and enthusiastic
• Flexible and willing to adapt to individual needs
• Confident communicating in ways tailored to each client

Technical Skills

• Good general knowledge of phones, tablets, or computers
• Willingness to learn new apps and devices
• Interest in accessibility and inclusive technology

Desirable (not essential):

• Experience working with people with a visual impairment or sensory impairment
• Personal or professional experience with assistive technology

Be a comforting presence for someone navigating grief. Join us as a Bereavement Group Volunteer.

Bereavement Group Volunteers help create a calm, welcoming space where adults who are grieving can talk, share experiences, or simply listen. Whether you have experience in supporting people before or this is something new for you, your warmth and compassion can make a real difference.

You’ll offer a warm smile, gentle support, and practical help to make sure each group runs smoothly. Your time will help people feel heard, valued, understood, and supported.

Availability: Up to 2 hours per week

Time: Flexible to suit group schedules

Location: Primarily Chesterfield

Criteria: Minimum 18 years of age. A criminal records check is required, covered by Marie Curie 

What you'll do:

• Welcome attendees and help create a calm, friendly atmosphere
• Support the facilitator with planning and running each group
• Build rapport and help people feel comfortable participating
• Listen sensitively and offer gentle reassurance
• Provide extra support to attendees where needed
• Promote the group to help encourage others to join
• Complete a short report after each session
