Help Transform Lives Through Safe Water, Sanitation and Hygiene in Uganda

Equal Aqua is an award-winning NGO working to tackle inequalities in water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) across Uganda. Through partnerships with local communities, schools and grassroots organisations, we help provide sustainable access to safe water, improved sanitation, hygiene education and environmental protection initiatives.

Our international team of 30+ volunteers spans more than 10 countries, united by a shared commitment to creating lasting change. As we continue to grow, we are seeking a passionate and experienced Fundraising Manager to lead our fundraising efforts and help us expand our impact.

As Fundraising Manager, you will play a critical leadership role in securing the resources that enable Equal Aqua to reach more communities, develop new projects and improve the lives of thousands of people across Uganda.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced fundraiser who wants to use their skills to make a meaningful global impact while working alongside a dedicated and inspiring team of volunteers.

What You'll Be Doing

Strategic Leadership

✅ Lead the implementation of Equal Aqua's fundraising strategy, ensuring alignment with organisational goals, vision and values.

✅ Develop innovative fundraising initiatives to support sustainable organisational growth.

✅ Monitor funding trends and identify new grant and funding opportunities.

Fundraising & Income Generation

✅ Drive income generation through multiple fundraising channels, including:

• Grant and trust applications
• Charitable foundations
• Corporate partnerships and sponsorships
• Individual giving programmes
• Community fundraising
• Creative fundraising campaigns and events

✅ Support the development of annual fundraising targets and budgets.

✅ Monitor fundraising performance and help maximise income opportunities.

Donor & Supporter Engagement

✅ Manage and grow relationships with existing supporters and donors.

✅ Deliver exceptional supporter stewardship and donor care.

✅ Increase donor retention and maximise long-term supporter value.

Team Leadership

✅ Lead and motivate an international team of fundraising volunteers.

✅ Delegate responsibilities effectively and support team development.

✅ Foster a collaborative, inclusive and high-performing team culture.

Governance & Reporting

✅ Report regularly to the Executive Committee and Board of Trustees.

✅ Contribute content and updates for grant reports and organisational reporting.

✅ Participate in team, committee and governance meetings as required.

The difference you will make to cats and people

As a charity we are able to help thousands of cats each year thanks to the generous donations we receive from members of the public. Our fundraising volunteers use their passion for cats and people to raise the vital funds needed to help more cats and kittens in need. As a fundraising volunteer we want to support you to fundraise in whatever way suits you best, whether that’s organising a fundraising event, fundraising online, promoting fundraising activities on social media, completing administration or supporting the development of new fundraising ideas! Whatever your skill set, this could be the role for you!

What we need from you

This is a really flexible role, you can choose what you’d like to get involved with, for example: 

• face-to-face fundraising. Organising or helping with fundraising events, running supermarket collections and fundraising stands, monitoring collection tins 
• online fundraising. Setting up online appeals and writing impactful cat case studies that maximise donations
• marketing. Spreading the word about our fundraising activities, for example on social media and with the local press  
• completing administration. Processing donations, sorting and recording donated goods, completing Gift Aid paperwork
• championing our work. Getting involved with developing new fundraising ideas and increasing community engagement

Time expectation

This is a flexible role that can fit around your other commitments to suit you. You’ll be part of a team raising vital funds while having fun in the process!

• Give just two hours of your week to support young people aged 9-14 to build key socio-emotional skills and grow in confidence. 

• Choose a 12-week project at one of our partner schools in your area that fits your schedule. 

• Work with like-minded volunteers with support from ReachOut staff as you get stuck into collective mentoring activities and engaging group games. 

• From creative, to active, to thought-provoking activities on our curriculum, there are so many opportunities to watch your mentees build team-working, problem solving and emotion management skills thanks to your support.

Do you want to join an organisation committed to addressing low literacy and numeracy?

Volunteers are essential to Shannon Trust and bring their energy, ideas and skills to train mentors in prisons, support learners in the community and enhance our business support team.

We are looking for volunteers to provide training and support to our mentors in prison in the North East area. This could include visiting any of the following prisons: HMP Frankland, HMP Holme House, HMP Durham, HMP Northumberland, HMP Low Newton, HMP Deerbolt. There may be some additional preparation and/ or administrative tasks in between volunteering days at the prison.

Our prison volunteers nurture the growth of the Shannon Trust in their prison. They help unlock the power of reading by delivering training sessions for prison mentors and offering ongoing advice, guidance and support through mentor meetings.

Volunteer recruitment dates

The closing date for applications to attend our next round of training is 24 January 2027. In some circumstances, volunteer vacancies may close early. Successful applicants will be sent interview questions in advance with notice to prepare. We will respond to all applications. Successful applicants will be invited to an interview between 25 January and 5 February 2027. This is an opportunity for you to meet our regional team, to find out more about you and for us to share more information about the volunteering role.

Training:

You'll be given high quality training to prepare you for volunteering with Shannon Trust. This takes place over 4 training sessions and via our online training portal. We ask that volunteers aim to complete the training in one course as this means that you will be ready to start actively volunteering. The next training sessions for volunteering for people applying to be a prison based volunteer will take place as follows.

• 2 March 2027, 10am – 1pm (via Zoom)

• 30 March 2027, 10am - 11am (via Zoom) - optional additional session

You’ll also receive the opportunity to attend ongoing training sessions and peer support meetings during your time as a volunteer to build your skills and experience.
