Job description
The Pastoral and Environmental Network in the Horn of Africa (PENHA) is an African-led and inspired charity, established in 1989. Its mission is to reduce poverty among the pastoralists in the Horn of Africa through the empowerment of communities and to foster sustainable and dignified livestock-based and non-livestock-based livelihoods. In the UK, it works with the Horn diaspora community through youth mentoring and leadership programmes.
PENHA’s Aims and Objectives
PENHA has a team in the London Office and country chapters in the Horn of Africa region – in Ethiopia and Somaliland but works with partners in Sudan, Eritrea and Uganda as well as international partners outside the Horn of Africa.
In the UK, PENHA has a Board of Trustees, a number of research associates, volunteers and an international Advisory Group. PENHA Board of Trustees is looking for three trustees to join the London-based Board with experience in one of the following areas:
In addition, candidates should have an understanding of the context within which charities operate, ideally with some experience of the Horn of Africa region.
The post is unpaid and the time commitment is four to six meetings per year, with attendance at other occasional meetings and events as a representative of the charity.
The Board is responsible for submitting the Annual Report and Accounts to the Charity Commission and to Companies House. As a small charity, trustees contribute actively as part of a team in giving firm strategic direction to the organisation, setting overall policy, defining goals, setting targets and evaluating performance against agreed targets. PENHA is currently undergoing a new strategy development process and the candidate will help steer the organisation through the challenges ahead.

SHASBAH is in need of a Volunteer Treasurer to help continue our 60 year old charity and ensure smooth running of the charity finances while providing the trustee board and staff with appropriate budgetary and financial information on the activities of the charity including organising annual accounts.
A Treasurer maintains effective governance of the organisations affairs, ensuring its financial viability and ensuring that proper processes and procedures exist for assuring all financial records, decisions and delegations are maintained. Ensuring our mission statement is being fulfilled. SHASBAH charity has trustees with a range of skills and lots of lived experience and has a small staff team.
The Treasurer role will include:
Ensuring that all accounts are prepared and disclosed in the form required by funders and the relevant statutory bodies including Charity Commission.
Providing guidance and reviews of financial grants, loans and investments.
Recommending to our trustees and staff appropriate accounting procedures, controls and policies.
Becoming a joint account holder and signatory.
Working in close partnership with the Director of services in executing their responsibilities and achieving the charity goals.
Ensuring that appropriate financial policies are in place.
As a Treasurer you will be required to provide monthly updates on the charity finances to the trustees and attend quarterly meetings via zoom or in person. Approx 8 hours a month in total. All are welcome to attend any events or meetings.

Role summary
This role will suit a qualified or certified person with the relevant skills, technical knowledge and experience in PAT testing. To apply for this role, you must hold the required certification in PAT testing (valid within the last three years) and be able to provide evidence of this.
St Helena regularly receives donated electrical items from members of the public, however before they can be resold they must be tested to ensure they are fit for purpose. In this role, you will be responsible for PAT testing the electrical items to ensure they are fit for purpose and resale. You must possess adequate education, training and practical skills appropriate to the nature of the electrical work and be able to perceive risks and avoid hazards which electricity can create.
You will liaise with staff on which items are not fit for resale and follow the correct process for disposing of unsaleable items. PAT testing equipment will be supplied by the organisation.
Main duties of the role
• PAT testing electrical donations
• Recycling or disposing of items that are not fit for resale
• Ensure that hygiene, health, safety and fire regulations are adhered at all times
• Report any defects or health and safety issues to the donation centre manager immediately
• Where appropriate or required, make use of any personal protective equipment supplied
• Respect confidentiality of information at all times
• Adhere to the values of St Helena
Training & supervision
• Health and safety training is mandatory (repeated annually)

• Valid certificate in Portable Appliance Testing which must be evidenced and valid within the last three years

Role summary
To work as part of a busy team, assisting the Donation Centre team to maximise income by supporting Drivers on deliveries and collections in the shops and some processing of stock. This role requires a level of fitness.
Main duties of the role
• Accompany Drivers on deliveries and support with moving of cages and stock to and from the shops
• Assist in the shops with moving of stock and removal of unwanted items
• To act as Banksman when the drivers when moving vehicles in tight areas, to ensure that the vehicle is moved safely
• If required help with the sorting and assigning of donations to shops
• Be aware of and adhere to health & safety regulations at all times
Training & supervision
• Health and safety training is mandatory (repeated annually), some of which is online
• Training on site at Donation Centre for handling of stock and cages.

• Some customer services/warehouse environment experience would be advantageous
• Must have good communications skills to be able to explain trading standards regulations in a professional and polite manner when goods cannot be accepted

Our small charity delivers awareness campaigns and a range of support services to patients, relatives, partners and carers who have been affected by a debilitating chronic condition; Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS). We are urgently looking for 2 experienced email marketing volunteers to join our communications team.
You will be a big link to our charity's clients who are vulnerable and isolated, to them learning more about events, our latest articles, fundraising events as well as ensuring they are aware of the services that we offer that be of help to them. You will also be helping us to raise awareness of this devastating chronic condition.
Even though we are a small organisation we have big ideas and having regular contact through emails and newsletters will show consistency and know they can rely on us to be there for them.
