Citizens Advice Buckinghamshire is seeking an exceptional individual to become our next Chair of Trustees.

About Us

We are part of the national Citizens Advice network, providing free, confidential and impartial advice to thousands of people each year across Buckinghamshire. We have offices in Aylesbury, Buckingham, High Wycombe and Chesham.

Our work helps people resolve problems around debt, housing, employment, benefits and consumer rights, often preventing crises, reducing pressure on public services and enabling individuals to regain stability and independence.

The organisation is stable, well-managed and ambitious. Following reductions in statutory funding and changes across the national network, we are now focused on strengthening income streams, raising our local profile and entering a new phase of growth.

The Opportunity

As Chair, you will:

• Provide strategic leadership to the Board of Trustees.

• Help strengthen funding and sustainability.

• Raise the profile of Citizens Advice across Buckinghamshire.

• Represent the organisation with funders, partners and the wider community.

• Champion the difference we make to people’s lives.

We are particularly interested in candidates who live in, or have strong knowledge and networks within Buckinghamshire (ideally central or south).

Who We’re Looking For

We are seeking someone who brings:

• Strategic leadership experience (board or senior executive level).

• The confidence to support and constructively challenge a CEO.

• Strong networking skills and credibility locally.

• Commercial awareness and financial literacy.

• An interest in fundraising and partnership development.

• A genuine commitment to community impact.

Prior Chair experience is welcome but not essential. Energy, judgement and the ability to build relationships are key.

Time Commitment

• Four face-to-face Board meetings per year (2 hours each).

• Four subcommittee meetings per subcommittee annually Finance & Risk, Operations, People, and Fundraising).

• Annual strategy Away Day.

• Annual Staff & Volunteers Day.

• Attendance at selected fundraising and stakeholder events.

• Approximate commitment: 2 -4 days per month.

We are seeking an experienced finance professional to join our Board of Trustees and provide strategic financial oversight to support the Trust’s long-term success and sustainability.

As a Trustee, you will play a key role in shaping the Trust’s vision, ensuring strong governance, and helping to deliver positive outcomes for our pupils, staff, and communities. Key Responsibilities

• Stakeholder Engagement – ensuring meaningful engagement with key stakeholders to support informed decision-making.

As the Finance Specialist Trustee, you will bring professional financial expertise to the Board, supporting robust financial governance, sustainability, and effective stewardship of resources.

What We Are Looking For

We welcome applications from individuals with strong financial knowledge and experience, who can provide strategic insight and independent judgement. Previous board experience is desirable but not essential.

Trustees are responsible for the governance of a charitable company and must ensure that the Trust complies with all relevant legal, regulatory, and statutory requirements. Trustees work closely with the Trust’s governance professionals and, where necessary, seek advice from external professional advisers.

This is an excellent opportunity to use your financial expertise to make a meaningful contribution to education and community outcomes.

We are looking for someone who:

• Professional experience in finance, accounting, audit, or financial management
• Ability to analyse complex financial information and communicate key issues clearly to non-finance specialists
• Understanding of governance, risk management, and assurance frameworks
• Commitment to the values, vision, and objectives of the Trust

Desirable criteria:

• Experience working within the public sector, charity, or education finance environment
• Knowledge of academy trust funding arrangements and financial frameworks
• A recognised professional finance qualification (e.g. ACA, ACCA, CIMA) or equivalent experience

elop is an award-winning LGBTQ+ mental health and wellbeing charity with 30 years of experience delivering high-quality, LGBTQ+ affirmative support. We provide counselling, wellbeing programmes, advocacy, and specialist training for professionals, schools, and organisations across London and the Essex borders. Our mission is to empower LGBTQ+ communities, improve mental health, amplify our voices, and promote equality through education, awareness, and support.

The Role

We are seeking new trustees to help guide our work and shape our future. As a trustee, you’ll play a vital role in ensuring our charity remains sustainable, inclusive, and impactful for the communities we serve.

You’ll Be Involved In:

· Setting strategy, policies, and goals

· Overseeing finances and safeguarding assets

· Ensuring strong governance and regulatory compliance

· Supporting CEO and senior leadership team in delivering mission

· Working collaboratively with the CEO to ensure strong governance and regulatory compliance

· Promoting elop and representing us at events

· Bringing your skills, knowledge, and lived experience to board discussions

Commitment

Time: 8–12 hours per month

Term: Minimum of 2 years
