About the Role
We are looking for a trustee who has the knowledge, skill, commitment and expertise to support the Executive Team to lead Solace’s strategic development. As a trustee your focus will be on assurance, ensuring Solace is delivering impact, compliant with all relevant legislation, is financially sustainable and has long term strategic plans. You will act as a critical friend to the Executive Team, providing both support and constructive challenge to ensure high quality service delivery.
- You will have an excellent understanding of the violence against women and girls’ sector and a commitment to eradicating domestic and sexual violence.
- You will bring experience of strategic leadership, with the ability to develop and monitor the delivery of Solace’s strategic plans to maximise impact for survivors.
- You will have strong financial acumen, providing the ability to scrutinize the charity’s budgets and financial performance to ensure long-term sustainability and responsible resource management.
- You will have sound judgement, with the ability to make difficult choices in the best interests of the charity.
- . You will be committed to Solace’s values and promote equity, diversity and inclusion at board level and contribute to an anti-racist and feminist culture throughout the organization.
- You will have effective communication skills with the ability to build relationships and represent the organization as needed.
- You will need to have the time to carry out your trustee duties effectively, collaborating with the chair, other trustees, shadow board and executive team as needed to further Solace’s mission.
- Existing knowledge of English charity governance is advantageous, but prior trustee experience is not essential; however a commitment to understand the role of a trustee to ensure compliance with charity law is.
About the Location
Our board meetings are held in our Central London office. Subcommittee meetings are usually held online. We also hold up to two annual away day which occurs in Central London. Board Meetings, which occur 4 times a year and Board Away Days which can take place up to two times annually. All trustees also need to be a part of a subcommittee, which are held online quarterly.

Trustees need to ensure they read papers in advance and attend a majority of meetings as scheduled. Overall time commitment for trustees is expected to be a day per month.

A successful candidate would have current or recent experience as a strategic HR Director in an organisation of similar scale and complexity to Solace Women’s Aid.
We are keen to appoint a candidate that thinks strategically, is passionate about the services we provide to women and girls and is therefore eager to utilise their expertise to contribute. About the Role
A successful candidate would have a good understanding of current accounting standards in the UK charities sector and be able to guide the organisation through compliance and regulatory matters both now and in the future.
This would include:
- Review financial statements (income, expenses, reserves, cash flow) as presented by the Solace Finance Director + CEO. Ensure successful audits are delivered on an annual basis in line with Companies House and regulatory requirements.
- Monitor financial statements for financial health and going concern status in the near term. Monitor financials to ensure the charity is financially viable in the longer term.
- Ensure adequate financial controls are in place for Solace in coordination with the Finance Director + team
- Management of risk and risk oversight: identify financials risks (funding gaps, cash flow deficiencies, under-diversified funding, fraud) and support on mitigating actions. Ensure Charities Commission updates are completed and documented as needed.
- Have oversight of Solace’s Reserves as well as Reserves ambitions over the longer term.
- Help the Board understand the financial information and position of the charity including audit results, budget implications, annual reporting sign off.
- Ensure the charity’s funds are deployed in line with Solace’s overall purpose and strategy.

We are seeking a motivated and talented volunteer to support us in this role.
Working in a small team, you will be supporting Choice Directors, and will have responsibility for corporate, major donor and other fundraising. You will get involved with some of the largest grant funders in the UK, including the Big Lottery, Comic Relief, London Council and others.

What is a Helper?
SSAFA Helpers provide support to local SSAFA branches, so that the service to veterans and their families can run smoothly. Perhaps you could help out at an event, take care of some office admin, or give a talk about SSAFA?
Why do we need you?
We’ve been supporting the Armed Forces community since 1885. Our clients come from all backgrounds and age groups and may have served in WW2 or in a more recent conflict like the Falklands or Afghanistan.
There are SSAFA branches throughout the UK and overseas who support local volunteers to deliver services to veterans, serving personnel and their families. Some branches are divided into smaller divisions to ensure the best local service delivery. Each branch has a team of volunteer caseworkers, support volunteers, executive roles, and fundraisers.
We have peak times throughout the year when we need extra volunteers. Whether you enjoy organising behind the scenes or being out meeting the public, we need people who can offer some time on a flexible basis.
When would you be needed and where would you be based?
This role will suit you if you are looking to volunteer on a flexible basis as and when you are available, and we need extra help. You may be based in an office, at home, or out and about at events.
What would you be doing?
- Helping at public events by staffing stalls, stewarding etc
- Helping to distribute Christmas hampers to clients.
- Giving talks about SSAFA to schools and local groups
- Helping with office tasks like stuffing envelopes, ordering marketing materials
The remit of this role may change over the next 12-18 months depending on the outcome of a trial currently being undertaken.

This position is a Trustee role, sitting on Hidayah's board. The IT/Tech This role will oversee Hidayah’s IT infrastructure to ensure suitability and sustainability of charitable activities.
What are the responsibilities of this role?
This role will have the following duties, but are not limited to:
● To ensure Hidayah’s IT operating systems and equipment are fit for purpose
● To drive the delivery and improvement of data protection procedures, using technology to improve the operations of the charity
● To keep the website updated, refreshed and ensure plug-ins and links are valid. This will include creating new pages, updating SEO and ensuring hosting agents are compliant with GDPR
● To take the lead in evaluating IT related proposals for the Board of Trustees
● To provide strategic oversight of implementation and project manage any IT related projects
● To assist with documentation of processes and delivery of specific tech training for volunteers
● Manage and moderate the Hidayah Discord server
● Operate as Hidayah’s Google Workspace administrator
● Work with the wider Digital Team to facilitate the technical development of Hidayah as an organization
How much commitment is required?
We are flexible around your own schedule. However, the following commitments are in place for all members of the Hidayah Board:
● To be able to attend all Trustee meetings and to deliver a comprehensive report to the Trustee each meeting with updates and to completed actions as and when they appear
● To aim to attend all other planning meetings as necessary when close to Hidayah events as well as the events themselves (where possible due to geography)
● To help to fundraise for, and advertise, any Hidayah events and fundraising drives
● To be part of a communications group to keep up to date with Hidayah developments
● To contribute toward and to maintain the administration of our file sharing system ‘Google Drive’ so it is always up to date with clear records, templates and forms
● To check emails and to respond when needed
● Enthusiasm, dedication, responsiveness, flexibility and eagerness in supporting the aims, vision and mission of Hidayah
● To contribute toward the Annual Report once a year
● To be in post until the next AGM
● The role is subject to a 6 months probationary period.
What do we expect from a Trustee: IT Tech Officer
Please note that you must agree with and fit the criteria below to be eligible to volunteer in this role:
Knowledge:
● Educated to degree level or experience which demonstrates equivalent technical role
● Knowledge of Wordpress / Frontend development skills (Currently using Breakdance for our website)
● Adept knowledge of Discord as a communications platform and server management
● Knowledge of Google Workspace
Personal Skills:
● Ability to understand confidentiality, equality and diversity and safeguarding procedures;
● Ability to respond to resolving conflict situations if needed;
● Someone who can behave with professionalism.
Administration Skills:
● To regularly check, maintain and keep up to date Hidayah administration and data handling systems such as using Google Drive to store information
● A high degree of literacy of Microsoft Office and IT Applications

Choice International is a UK based not-for-profit international development organisation that seeks to address inequality issues both overseas and within the UK. We promote equality, diversity and inclusion via researching, developing and implementing development projects for disabled people and other disadvantaged communities in the UK and overseas.
In view of upcoming development projects, we are seeking applications for a Project Development & Marketing Volunteer to work from our office in East London. There is opportunity for working from home after the first month.
This is an exciting position that offers plenty of scope to make a real difference in support of equality and diversity. We are currently delivering disability sports projects and events in India and in London.
The role is to assist the organisation with the development of national and international programmes for disability and equality rights and other related projects through research, administration and writing proposals, emails and reports.
The main responsibilities will be:
• To research potential partnerships and assist in the development of project proposals
• To research funding opportunities and assist in the development of grant proposals
• To assist in the organisation and management of Choice International activities and events
• To represent Choice International at conferences, exhibitions and seminars, as necessary
• To support other administrative tasks, as necessary.

What is a Branch Secretary?
There are SSAFA branches throughout the UK and overseas. These are divided into local areas that we call divisions. Each branch has a secretary to organise day-to-day activities. This is a key role involving administration and coordinating people. As the first point of contact for SSAFA in the area you will play a crucial part in promoting SSAFA locally, organising local events and ensuring the smooth running of SSAFA across the divisions in your branch.
Why do we need you?
We’ve been supporting the Armed Forces community since 1885. Our clients come from all backgrounds and age groups and may have served in WW2 or in a more recent conflict like the Falklands or Afghanistan.
There are SSAFA branches throughout the UK and overseas who support local volunteers to deliver services to veterans, serving personnel and their families. Some branches are divided into smaller divisions to ensure the best local service delivery. Each branch has a team of volunteer caseworkers, support volunteers, executive roles, and fundraisers.
In recognition of our clients’ service to the Nation we aim to provide financial, practical and emotional support when it’s needed most. To do this we need local branches and volunteers who can match clients to volunteers and keep things running smoothly behind the scenes.
When would you be needed and where would you be based?
This role is about coordination and administration. As part of your local branch, you might have access to an office, but many volunteers are based at home. The role would suit someone looking to offer a regular time commitment each week. You would also need to organise and attend a number of regular meetings each year.
What would you be doing?
· Managing the branch office (if applicable) and providing support to all volunteers, especially new ones
· Work with the branch Chairperson, treasurer, and others to ensure smooth running of the branch.
· Accepting referrals and coordinating SSAFA caseworkers, visitors, and helpers accordingly
· Oversee all SSAFA casework across the branch ensuring clients get support that is effective and timely.
· Monitor volunteer numbers against the demand for support and recruit new volunteers as needed
· Working with the local training officer to ensure all volunteers are kept up to date with the training and information they need.
· Build relationships with regional and central office staff to ensure an effective flow of information.
· Maintaining accurate records of volunteers and cases, submit accurate data to Central Office
· Providing administration for an annual programme of meetings including an AGM, recording, and implementing decisions
· Being a positive ambassador for SSAFA remembering that anyone you meet could be a potential client, volunteer or fundraiser.
· Volunteering within the standards and values of SSAFA including observing our policies such as the Volunteering policy and data protection policy (these will be covered in your training and local induction.)
The remit of this role may change over the next 12-18 months depending on the outcome of a trial currently being undertaken.

What training and support would you receive?
· Role specific training to prepare you for your voluntary role - confidentiality and boundaries, personal safety, caseworker training, caseworker IT system training, volunteer management – attracting, recruiting, and inducting volunteers, volunteer management – case management and quality. This training would take approx. 4 days.
· Mandatory on-line training modules to complete at home, so you are up to date on how to keep clients, their families safe and personal information safe.
· Access to a range of e-learning courses as well as local opportunities to keep your training up to date.
· Support from the Chair of the branch
· Access to the Welfare Team and Volunteer Support Team based at our central office.
· Reimbursement of out-of-pocket expenses
· Volunteers will be covered by SSAFAs Public Liability Insurance whilst carrying out the role.
What are we looking for?
· Friendly and approachable people of any age (18+) with some experience of coordinating people and admin
· Good written and spoken English.
· Ability to be respectful and non-judgemental with clients, their family, other agencies and SSAFA colleagues.
· Ability to send and receive emails – you will receive your own SSAFA email address.
· Ability to coordinate a team of people volunteering.
· Willingness to use our on-line case management system (this is covered in the training course)
· Ability to keep within boundaries of the role with regards to reporting any safety concerns etc
· Reliable attitude, contact clients and volunteers promptly, keep appointments etc.
· Ability to maintain confidentiality and keep information safely.
· Access to public transport or a car to travel to meetings, events etc.
