Life in a rescue environment is never ideal for any cat compared to a loving home. Our cat adoption team leaders support cat homing and as part of this they may lead a team of volunteer home visitors who collectively play an important part in matching our feline friends with their new families. Our cat adoption team leaders support their team of volunteers in all aspects of their roles, making sure our volunteers are happy, confident and supported.

What we need from you

• Supporting the adoption process through either homefinder questionnaires or a small team of home visitors
• Liaising closely with other volunteers to ensure information on cats being helped is correct and up to date
• Following up on any post-adoption queries
• Play an active part in the volunteer committee, being part of the team leading on cat adoption information and updates
• Collaborating with the cat welfare team leader to ensure the highest standards of cat care are applied in line with Cats Protection policy and procedures

As life becomes ever more difficult for migrants across London, the UK and the world, we are committed to fighting back in solidarity and supporting local migrants, asylum seekers and refugees.

Waltham Forest Migrant Action (WFMA) is the only provider of free immigration advice in the borough. Our mission is to provide support for local migrants in Waltham Forest and to advocate and campaign for the rights of migrants in the UK. 

Since 2013, our weekly Drop-in Centre has offered visitors a warm welcome, free advice on immigration, housing and welfare issues, and opportunities to socialise with the local community. Last year we helped 366 people from 71 nationalities, and our numbers continue to grow. 

We are looking for volunteers with a strong interest in migrant justice to work with us towards a fairer and more equal society for migrants, asylum seekers and refugees.

Whilst you are learning the ropes you will be paired up with one of the more experienced support centre volunteers so that you can shadow and learn from them. After 6 months of volunteering with us, all of our volunteers have the opportunity to specialise and eventually become acredited immigration advisors if that's something you are interested in. 

Who we are looking for:

• Someone who shares our core values
• Able to communicate with people from different backgrounds living in sometimes difficult circumstances.
• Enjoys working in a team.
• Following the training sessions, you should be committed to attending at minimum two to three Friday mornings in the month.
• Empathetic, Patient and discreet
• Ability to speak up if you need more support or see something your not happy with.
• Basic IT Skills. Whilst you will have training on the specific tools we use in the centre, some experience or understanding of working with computers would be helpful.

Would you like to help bring engineering stories to life and be the face of Foothold’s digital content? As a Volunteer Content Presenter, you’ll play a key role in delivering engaging video content that highlights our services, supports our fundraising efforts, and raises awareness of the challenges engineers face. Whether remotely or in-person, you’ll help humanise our work and make a lasting impact on the engineering community.

Aim of this role
Research and Campaigns volunteers support our work to change the policies and practice that affect the lives of our clients.

As an R&C volunteer, you will be a part of the R&C team. You will:

• complete an induction to Citizens Advice and training for your role

• keep up-to-date with trends of the concerns affecting clients locally as well as areas identified by national Citizens Advice, and raise call for evidence

• research and gather quality information on key issues affecting local residents

• ensure all volunteers/staff are aware of the purpose of Research and Campaigns and how to write evidence forms

• produce useful, appealing and easily accessible campaign materials and publications for information purposes

• feed back to assessors and advisers on the results of their work and provide them with assistance in completing evidence forms

• help national Citizens Advice to carry out research about how certain issues affect clients in your local area

• gather case studies and client stories

• ensure that equality, diversity and inclusion are promoted in our R&C work

• adhere to Citizens Advice Merton and Lambeth’s (CAML) aims and principles

• comply with all relevant GDPR rules and regulations

Locations

This role is based in our Mitcham office with some occasional traveling to our other offices in Morden and Kennington. All three offices are well-connected to public transport, and the office in Mitcham has a car park.

We will reimburse all reasonable out of pocket travel and lunch expenses.

What we are looking for

• excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, are essential

• understanding of the importance of Research and Campaigns work in identifying key current social issues, and their potential impact on clients

• the ability to build and maintain professional relationships and contribute constructively as part of the R&C team, as well as wider CAML team

• the ability to give feedback clearly and sensitively

• good report-writing skills with the ability to condense important information and explain to a range of audiences. Able to research, analyse and explain complex information

• good organisational and time management skills with the ability to work towards set deadlines

• ability to work on own initiative, within given guidelines

• confidence in using a range of IT software to research and analyse data

Satisfactory references are required before joining the charity.

Commitment
We are looking for volunteers who are able come to our office for at least one day per week.

Why we want you

As a community engagement volunteer you and your fellow branch members will create a range of activities to help spread the word about SSAFA within your community to ensure that that our Armed Forces community know that SSAFA are here to help and that we need the public’s support to continue offering our services.

This role is diverse and allows for you to focus on the areas that you have skills or interests in. The role has flexibility and can work around your other commitments.

Below are some examples of possible activities you can take on or be a part of as a SSAFA Community Engagement Volunteer.

What you will be doing

• Activity Organisers - Love planning? Help coordinate amazing events like charity dinners, carol concerts, and local fairs.
• Event Champions - Be the friendly face of SSAFA! Help at events, chat with visitors, sell merchandise, and spread the word about our work.
• Promoting SSAFA Services - Help provide a warm, welcoming presence at Veterans Breakfast clubs, cafes or hubs - offering information about SSAFA services and signposting as appropriate.
• SSAFA Storytellers -Deliver engaging talks to organisations and groups, sharing SSAFA’s incredible history and mission.
• Community Connectors - Collaborating with the Community Engagement Manager to establish a local network, promote SSAFA's services, and respond to community opportunities such as gardening projects.
• Fundraising Heroes - Whether it’s rallying local businesses, organising events, or getting creative with unique fundraising ideas, you’ll play a crucial role in keeping SSAFA’s support going strong.
• Administrators - Are you detail-oriented and love keeping things organised? Assist with branch and event administration, manage schedules and branch calendars, and ensure everything runs smoothly currently being undertaken.

The skills you need

• Be friendly and approachable.
• Confident to engage with the public, potential clients, volunteers and SSAFA colleagues face-to-face.
• Reliable attitude, staying connected with your Branch and/or Community Engagement Manager about your availability.
• Access to public transport or a car to get to events if necessary.
• Basic IT skills would be an advantage.
