Being a director for the Charity of Elizabeth Janes Jones and the David Henry Waring Home is an exciting and challenging role, bringing with it opportunities for applying strategic thinking, planning, creativity, and stewardship which can help guide the Charity to achieve its goals in the management of its properties, a site re-development which is a significant milestone in the Charity’s history.
Our directors are responsible in law for managing the incorporated entity, and as we are a charitable organisation our directors are also trustees at law and have formal responsibilities under the Companies Act 2006.Our directors give their time voluntarily and the positions are unremunerated, but reasonable out of pocket expenses may be allowable.
As a director, you’ll work as part of a board alongside our other directors and will also have opportunities to work with the CEO, staff, and volunteers, adding to the range of knowledge, skills, and experience within the Charity’s team. As well as bringing fresh ideas to current and future property management and development projects, the director role also has responsibilities for the governance of the Charity, regulatory compliance matters and the effective stewardship of our finances and resources.

- Dedicating the necessary time to prepare for and attending scheduled meetings and other obligations.

We’re looking for people who are passionate about making a difference to the housing sector we would love to hear from you if you’d like to contribute. Ideally, we are hoping to find volunteers with professional qualifications experience and knowledge in the following areas:
- Practical skills and knowledge of social housing and the housing sector and an understanding of the difficulties faced by individuals with disadvantaged backgrounds.
- Using financial data to run a team, function or organisation and to make financial decisions which optimises budgets and contributes to the smooth running of the operation.
- Understanding of a directors, legal duties, responsibilities, and liabilities.
- Familiarity with personal responsibilities and liabilities like that of a director and acting in the best interests of the team and organisation.
- Time management and decision-making skills.
- Management and mitigation of risk.
- Interacting with others and people skills, and a track record of being able to get along with, boards, employees, service users and the public.
- Working with and interpreting data and management information to develop plans and help make and support the making of informed decisions.
- An understanding of and commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
Time commitment: The full Board meets every 2 months and meetings last for about 2.5 hours. In addition, Board members are expected to be members of at least one sub committees. These meet when needed but typically monthly.

Our Trustees bring a range of skills and experience to the charity. As we expand further across the world, we are specifically looking for global experience and with one of these two skill sets and experiences:
- Knowledge of sports governance, whether in a National Governing Body or other similar entity, and safeguarding.
AND / OR
- Significant experience as an Ambassador and/or Event Director at parkrun. We are open to applications from our international volunteers.
Knowledge and experience of digital, charity governance or fundraising within a charity would also be preferred. One of the two profiles could also have the ability and experience to fulfil the role of Welfare and Safety Lead for the Board.
The time commitment is estimated at 1-2 days per month. This includes attending usually four board meetings a year, as well sub-committee meetings as required (sub-committees are usually virtual), and any annual gatherings. Trustees usually join one or two sub-committees.

Ideal Candidate Profile
Skills and Experience
- Previous Chair or Vice-Chair experience, with strong understanding of charity governance and Charity Commission guidance.
- Strategic thinker with sound judgement and integrity.
- Proven ability to build relationships with external stakeholders and represent an organisation publicly.
- Experience with fundraising and major donor engagement; comfortable making the ask.
- Desirable: involvement in capital projects or property development.

Role Summary:
The Marketing Lead will lead Australia's marketing strategy, driving brand growth and
customer engagement. This role is responsible for overseeing all aspects of marketing,
including brand development, digital marketing, campaign management, market research,
and customer experience. As a key member of the team, the Marketing Lead will work
closely with cross-functional teams to position Roots as a leader in the Islamic Education
industry while ensuring all marketing efforts align with our mission and objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Strategic Marketing Leadership:
- Develop and implement a comprehensive marketing strategy to achieve organisational goals, including brand awareness, lead generation, and customer retention.
- Monitor market trends and competitor activities to identify opportunities and risks.
- Brand Management & Positioning:
- Strengthen the organisation’s brand identity and ensure consistent messaging across all channels.
- Lead efforts to position the brand as an industry leader, driving differentiation and competitive advantage
- Campaign Planning & Execution:
- Oversee the creation and execution of marketing campaigns across digital, print, and traditional channels
- Measure campaign effectiveness, optimising performance and ROI.
- Team Development:
- Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing marketing team.
- Foster a collaborative, creative, and results-driven environment.
- Content Development:
- Develop a media strategy that includes high-quality photography and videography to enhance brand storytelling.
- Oversee the production of visual content for social media, advertisements, websites, and events.
- Ensure all media content aligns with brand identity and marketing goals.
Preferred Experience:
- Marketing & Branding
- Some experience in digital marketing, social media, or event promotion.
- Basic knowledge of social media management, and content creation.
- Involvement with MSAs or ISOCs
- Experience with Muslim Student Associations (MSAs) as a member, volunteer, or organizer.
- Comfortable engaging with Muslim communities and student networks.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Marketing Skills: Proven expertise in brand strategy, digital marketing, and campaign management.
- Innovative: Demonstrated ability to drive growth through innovative and data-driven marketing strategies
- Community-Oriented: A deep understanding of the Muslim community in Australia, especially in relation to university students and local mosques.
- Relationship Building: Proven experience in building and maintaining meaningful relationships with a wide variety of stakeholders.
- Project Management: Strong organisational skills with the ability to support program delivery efficiently.
- Communication: Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage diverse audiences, from students to community leaders.
- Commitment to Ihsaan: This role requires someone who strives to deliver their responsibilities with ihsaan.
- Dedication to Service: A heart for khidma (service), and a desire to make a positive impact on the lives of young Muslims through education.
