About CARAS:
Community Action for Refugees and Asylum Seekers (CARAS) is a registered charity that has been supporting refugees and asylum-seekers since 2002 empowering them to integrate and engage in the local community.
Arriving as an asylum seeker/refugee can be a disempowering experience. Difficulties with language, accessing services and overcoming prejudice are ever-present. As an organisation we are committed to work alongside refugees to overcome those challenges, and to help them build their lives.
We offer group support and targeted support work. We offer a range of activities including: ESOL classes; social and recreational activities such as youth club, drama, trips, and family activities; educational support for young people; and casework and advocacy support.

About the Role:
We are currently recruiting a team of volunteers to join our new Welcome team at Tooting Hub. This is a new role. Welcome volunteers will provide a friendly face to existing community members attending our regular projects. They will also be the important ‘face of CARAS and our welcome at the door’ to people attending projects for the first time, to visitors and to people dropping in unannounced to enquire about CARAS’s service. Volunteers will meet and greet, and ensure all visitors are responded to appropriately and introduced to the relevant member of staff, activity, project, or meeting. There will be an administrative element to the role (updating registers and emailing enquiries to CARAS staff, for example).
Who will you be?
We work hard to ensure our services feel welcoming and inclusive. It is important that this new team is representative of our diverse local and internal CARAS community. Whether you are new to volunteering with CARAS or are a regular volunteer looking to vary your role or a community member wanting to develop some leadership skills or volunteering experience, this might be the exact project for you.
Volunteer Tasks and Responsibilities:
· Signing up to a shift/s on the Tooting HUB welcome team rota
· Able to be at Tooting Hub in person to complete agreed shifts
· Welcoming staff, volunteers, existing and potential new community members and visitors
· Ensuring all visitors are responded to appropriately and introduced to the relevant member of staff, activity, project, or meeting
· Ensuring everyone completes the onsite register on arrival to comply with safeguarding, health and safety and fire evacuation policies
· Taking agreed initial intake information for new / drop in visitors wanting to attend a taster activity
· Conducting induction tours of the building and introductions to facilities, key staff, and partners
Requirements (all experience can be from paid or voluntary roles):
Essential:
· A calm, friendly, kind, and patient approach
· Happy and confident to meet new people and put them at their ease
· Excellent communication skills, especially with people with varying levels of English
· To be non-judgemental and able to engage with people from diverse backgrounds
· Confidence in using one’s own judgement to follow agreed policy
· Good IT admin skills in using Microsoft office, outlook, Google search, online forms etc
· A commitment to confidentiality and data protection
· Punctual and reliable
· To be able to volunteer on Mondays or Wednesdays for a minimum of four months
Desirable:
· Lived experience of seeking sanctuary and/ or the UK immigration system.
· Personal experience of working with people seeking asylum.
· Proficiency in one or more of the following community languages: Albanian, Amharic, Arabic, Bengali, Dari, Farsi, Kurdish, Oromo, Pashto, Russian, Spanish, Somali, Tigrinya, Urdu, or Vietnamese.
We will prioritise applicants with lived experience of the asylum process.

About Kith & Kids
We provide activities, opportunities, information, and support for people with a learning disability or autism, their parents and siblings.
For all our projects and activities we are dependent on volunteers.
Our Spring Project
Mon 7th – Fri 11th April, 9:30am – 5:30pm in North London.
We are currently looking for energetic and enthusiastic volunteers, to join us on our fantastic fun-filled Spring Social Development Project.
Volunteers and our members who have disabilities get to know each other as they take part in fun and challenging workshops including sports & games, arts & crafts, cooking and enjoying a day out in London.
What you'll do
On the project you and a fellow volunteer will be paired with one of our members with a learning disability or autism. You'll support and encourage them to take part in a wide range of activities led by professional therapists and workshop leaders.
Our core activities are sports & games, arts & crafts, drama and music. Previous additional workshops have also included photography, football and cooking and you’ll plan your own exciting outing around London with a fellow volunteer and the Kith & Kids member you're linked with.
Not only is it a week full of fun and games for you and our members, you are a vital part in supporting them to develop their social skills in a day-to-day environment.

Our Employability Project
10am to 3pm, Monday and/or Friday during term-time
Our Employment & Life Skills Project (ELSP) helps adults with learning disabilities or autism to access further education, work experience and visits to mainstream community opportunities.
What you’ll do
You’ll act as a mentor to the members of the group. You’ll be helping the group(s) develop a range of life skills, things that many of us take for granted. These include Maths and English skills, independent living, the use of public transport, social skills and even the sourcing of employment.
For the people in these groups, these things can be very difficult to develop and achieve without regular support. Through regular support and meetings, members and volunteers develop greater trust, skills, and confidence together.

Plans to develop our board
We are specifically seeking one or more trustees with a good knowledge and experience of adult social care. As well as the normal duties of a trustee, you would take a specific interest in our adult care service provision – St Davids House (residential care), Jigsaw (day service) and our Supported Living service. You would scrutinise the quality and operation of our care services for adults and offer advice and challenge to our staff team as a member of our Adult Care Advisory Committee. You will liaise closely with the Director of Care and Support.
You may have been a senior manager in an adult care service or have been a commissioning manager within the NHS for people with complex care needs. You will have a passion for great person-centred care. Experience of CQC would be an advantage.
The Board meets seven times a year and is also invited to all events and celebrations which is optional. Trustees are warmly encouraged to attend meetings in person, but if required can attend some meetings online. Expenses are paid for travel and overnight accommodation can be arranged for those not local to Devon.

We are looking for an experienced, committed person who will:
· Be a member in good standing of the Methodist Church in Britain or another denomination.
· Have previous experience of pastoral care.
· Have an understanding of the structure of the Methodist Church and knowledge of the Covenant relationship between the Conference and its ministers.

· Have an awareness of safeguarding concerns and the operation of the complaints and discipline processes within the Church.

Abbeyfield Southern Oaks is deeply interconnected with the local community on many levels in the spirit and practice of our vision and values. Residents, employees, trustees, volunteers and service professionals are all drawn from the local area.
Abbeyfield Southern Oaks is a not-for-profit organisation. We provide supported housing for people who are still able to care for themselves and wish to remain independent. Our residents generally don’t want the responsibilities of maintaining a house or flat, or a garden, but they’re not ready to go into a care home. We currently have five supported houses with between 7-11 residents in each at any one time and a 60-unit independent living facility.
We have recently developed Nonsuch Abbeyfield, a supportive, vibrant retirement hub in Surrey, where active, independent living is at its heart. Thirty-six of the flats are leaseholds while the remaining twenty-four are rented at an affordable rate, when the local council has referred residents.
Background to the role
We are keen to appoint a new Trustee to bring skills, knowledge and experience to the Board of a charity that is passionate about providing older people with supported independent living for companionship and social interaction and diminishing the effects of loneliness and isolation.
Our colleague, Anne Carrington, is stepping down having done a sterling job on our Board since we merged with Abbeyfield Purley, where she had been their Deputy Chair and volunteers’ team leader. We are seeking someone to join the Board to continue her focus on the welfare of our residents, working closely with our Community and House Managers and sharing the oversight of the work done by our Director of Business and Operations and his team, namely: resident communications; new residents pipeline; admissions; medical policy; relationships with care partners; staff recruitment and training; volunteer recruitment, training and management.
This is an important role as it directly links residents, House Managers, our Community Manager, and the Board. It demonstrates our commitment to the care of our residents and to the people who volunteer at our Houses and at Nonsuch Abbeyfield. It ensures good communication allowing information and messages to be passed directly from our Operational Services Committee to residents and to the House Managers. It encourages activities and outings to be arranged, is a connection to all staff who visit the houses, and overall provides a social link for all concerned.
Main Responsibilities
- Provide advice and guidance to the Chair and trustees regarding all matters relating to resident care and welfare
- Provide thought leadership on, and analysis of, opportunities for increased resident welfare and the overall provision of support
- Co-chair the Residents and Volunteers Group with fellow Trustee, Andrew Hoy
- Liaise with the Services Committee to monitor all policy implementation and delivery standards
- Make regular informal visits to our five houses to get to know residents and to support the House Managers
- Attend coffee mornings and any social activities in the houses to see residents and meet volunteers
- Attend occasional lunches in the houses

- Good experience of working with older people or
- Personal and practical experience of being a carer for an older person
- A good listener with empathy for the challenges experienced by older people

Purpose of the Role:
To support patients transitioning from hospital to home, ensuring their discharge is safe, smooth, and successful. By providing practical assistance and emotional support, you will play a key role in helping individuals regain independence, prevent readmission, and access community resources.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist with transport, helping patients travel safely from the hospital to their homes.

What is the purpose of this role?
The Sybil Levin Day Service is a specialist SPECAL-Led day service supporting people with dementia and their carers using the SPECAL method.
What activities might you be involved in?
- Assisting centre attendees to engage in activities.
- Serving meals and drinks.
- Helping to set up and clear away activities.
- Engaging in conversation with centre attendees.
- Volunteering in line with the Charity’s policies and procedures and adhering to the Volunteer Code of Conduct
What are we looking for?
- People with a genuine interest in the wellbeing of people with dementia.
- A friendly, sensitive and kind approach.
- Being comfortable in small groups or on a one to one basis.
- People with a commitment to using the SPECAL method at all times whilst at the centre.
When would you be needed to volunteer?
The centre is open from Monday to Friday and would like volunteers to commit to a morning or afternoon at least once a week as a minimum.
What training will you be given?
You will be given all the training you need to enable you to carry out your role. This will include a thorough Charity induction and a departmental induction to provide further information about the role. You will also be given access to our online training library to complete the training modules that are mandatory for your role.
You will receive SPECAL training prior to commencing your role.

What Will a Travel Buddy Do?
As a Travel Motivator, you'll play a key role in helping our service users become more confident and independent when traveling locally. You’ll receive all the training you need to support them on their journey, with the goal of empowering them to travel independently within 12 weeks. It's all about motivation, encouragement, and helping them gain the confidence they need to navigate their community on their own!
What Experience Do You Need?
You need to be a UK resident. We are not accepting overseas applications. No specific experience required! We’re looking for passionate individuals who want to make a positive impact and are eager to learn. Whether you’re retired and looking to make use of your spare time, a student or job seeker wanting to develop new skills, or someone who lives locally (or nearby – our location is super easy to reach from the city centre), we want to hear from you! Local knowledge is a bonus, but it’s not essential – we’re all about making a difference, no matter your background.
