As a Community Southwark Research and Data Volunteer, you will find and read through research which could be useful for charities and groups and summarise the key data. You’ll also play a key role making sure that opportunities on our funding database are up-to-date and accurate. 

What will you do? 

• Research useful reports and data which could be useful for Southwark community groups 

• Read through reports and articles to pick out key statistics 

• Use our data library (on AirTable) to record information about useful data sources 

• Reviewing entries in our funding database (also on AirTable) to check they are correct 

• Uploading new funding opportunities to our funding database 

Person specification:  

• Confident with or happy to learn to use Microsoft Outlook for emails and our internal databases, hosted on Airtable 

• Able to conduct research using search engines on the internet

• Able to read through written reports and articles in English and summarise key information 

• Good attention to detail when working with numbers, facts and spreadsheets

We are committed to the ongoing development of our volunteers with skills development, 1-2-1 support, a reference after 3 months and further opportunities to get involved in our work.

Expenses: Community Southwark reimburses travel expenses up to £6 per week and lunch expenses up to £5 when volunteering 4 or more hours in person.

Times and location: This role can be carried out from our office in Bermondsey or from home, and can be a one or two day per week role – flexible to your availability.

We want to increase the support we give the British Overseas Territories, so every young person no matter if they are in Birmingham or Bermuda has access to a great, safe Scout programme and our volunteers are supported.

This is a new team, supporting the Lead Volunteer for the British Overseas Territories, to help develop 5 of our British Overseas Territories (Bermuda, Gibraltar, Anguilla, British Virgin Islands and Cayman Islands) in line with UK Scouting. 

We are looking for support with a few different areas: 

• Programme – working with the UK Leads for Beavers, Cubs and Scouts, and colleagues across BSO and the regions, developing guidance and resources to support the delivery of safe, engaging, suitable programmes for the young people in our overseas territories 

• Learning - ensuring compliance with learning modules, and building a virtual community of volunteers who can support and deliver training across the 5 countries, ensuring provision and completion of all learning for all adults 

• Communications - building a campaign of internal communications across the British Overseas Territories to ensure consistent, engaging communications between the island and countries, as well as ensuring communications from UK HQ are shared across suitable platforms 

• Volunteer Experience – supporting transformation across the British Overseas Territories and engaging the adult volunteers there with the volunteer experience changes.

We are looking for a Chair-designate for our Board, to work alongside our outgoing Chair for a set period of time, eventually taking-on chairing duties.

As the oldest charity in England (formed in 1451) we’re looking for someone to lead our Board, to work with other trustees and our Charity Manager to continue to shape our strategy and operational delivery, building on almost 600 years of successful support for local  people.

Wokingham United Charities has a mission to relieve poverty and enhance the quality of life of those people in need in our community. We do this by the provision of Almshouse accommodation, by using our funds to help individuals in financial distress, hardship and poverty, and by providing funding to local charity, voluntary and community groups who themselves provide support to residents of Wokingham Borough.

Our usual income per annum is ~£700k, but we’ve been managing funds to help to relieve poverty in the midst of this cost-of-living crisis, and recently our turnover has been ~£1.5m.

About the role

This is a high-profile appointment, with strong commitment to the future of our organisation, and prior experience of charity leadership, both essential qualities.
Experience of committee or similar work, with a focus to lead the stable and forward-looking Board are also part of what we are looking for.

Our Board includes people with understanding of our charity, and we’d obviously expect new trustees to have empathy with our cause and our beneficiaries. Full induction to our organisation will be provided, plus specialist support you may need, including access to external training.

If you can think collectively and strategically to lead us to plan long-term, you have the primary skills needed; you’ll also help guide other trustees. Support from our paid employees is always available, as they will be dealing with the day-to-day running of the organisation.

We are a charity not a business, but we apply business principles to governing our organisation. We want to expand our Board’s diversity, in all its meanings, and strongly welcome applications from people from less-represented groups. 

The Board currently meets every two months in Wokingham, with online/hybrid attendance from some people. It would be expected that our Chair attends face-to-face for the majority of meetings.

• Help prepare the venue before and after clinics.

• Act as first port of call for clients attending the clinic, e.g., direct them where to park, welcome them on arrival, provide drinks and chat while they wait for their appointment, and inform the Foot Care Practitioners when they have arrived.

• Ensure that clients are informed of fire safety procedures e.g. signing in and out, evacuation procedures.

• Alert the Independence at Home Manager if there are any issues or concerns.

We currently have a volunteering opportunity in the Jarrow area for a volunteer Befriender. If you have a couple of hours to spare and can commit to volunteering with us on a weekly basis, we’d love to hear from you!

We are looking for a friendly, reliable male befriender who would like to meet up with our service user on a weekly basis on an afternoon during the week or at weekends. With access to a car we would like someone to accompany the young man on day trips, as well as going out for walks and visits to the gym. The Veolia Environmental Trust is seeking to recruit up to three new Trustees to join our Board.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who is passionate about the environment and supporting local communities to join our dynamic, lively, and diverse Board of Trustees.

Since it was founded in 1997, the Veolia Environmental Trust has contributed over £105 million to support almost 2,800 projects that protect the local environment and promote community wellbeing. 

The standard duties of our trustees include:

• Providing strategic direction

• Ensuring legal and regulatory compliance

• Evaluating and approving funding applications

Trustees are expected to attend four meetings a year, usually with two meetings being held virtually, and two held in-person at different locations across the UK. Preparation time is required prior to each meeting. Trustees may also take on additional roles, such as being a member of one of our committees.

Trustee positions are voluntary and non-remunerated and reasonable expenses are paid.

Previous experience of being a trustee is not required, and we welcome applications from people with a diverse range of skills, experience, and perspectives. All new Trustees receive an induction and ongoing support.

London Canal Museum is dedicated to educating and inspiring our visitors with the history of London’s canals – how they’ve shaped London’s development, the ordinary people that lived and worked on them, as well as the entrepreneurs who profited from them. We want to pass on the heritage of the canals so that future generations can learn about London’s industrial and social past. 

Role Location:

London Canal Museum, 12-13 New Wharf Road, London, N1 9RT. We are a 5-10 minute walk from Kings Cross St Pancras tube and rail stations.

Role hours:

- One shift a fortnight, from 9.45am until 4.45pm

- The Museum is open Tuesday - Sundays

Role purpose:

The role of the Front of House volunteer is vital to the life of London Canal Museum – in small teams, volunteers in this role ensure the building is open and ready to welcome visitors each day, greet visitors and educate them about the museum’s exhibits and history, keep visitors safe and answer enquiries to keep the museum running smoothly across the day.

Key Tasks:

- Open and close the museum and ensure it is presentable and ready to receive visitors
- Greet visitors, welcome them into the museum and engage with them about the exhibits and history of the building
- Sell admissions, gifts and books, and ensure the till procedures are followed correctly
- Answer telephone and in-person enquiries
- Provide refreshments and assistance during group visits
- Maintain the various museum areas and ensure they are presentable
- Follow museum policies and procedures to ensure the building, volunteers, staff and visitors are safe and well at all times
- Training and support

All volunteers are line managed by the Volunteering and Training Manager, who provides comprehensive inductions and training to all Front of House volunteers in core areas including: 

- Visitor Engagement
- Customer Service
- Health & Safety
- Accessibility in Museums
- Child Protection
- Retail Skills (including using the till)
