LFBF also recognises the highest level of professional competence by awarding chartered status to individuals who have demonstrated their commitment to continued education and professional excellence within Financial Services.
Our Story
The London Foundation for Banking & Finance (LFBF) started life back in March 1879, when a group of bank workers came together to establish leadership and professional practice principles for the industry. They created the first Institute of Bankers in England and Wales to offer educational resources to those in the sector.
Over the years, the organisation developed its own industry leading qualifications to create a gold standard of banking and financial education. It also established itself as a leading voice in the banking world, providing invaluable insights into all areas of the industry and promoting the highest standards of professional competency.
Today, we exist to support the advancement of knowledge and education in financial services. Previously, we were called The London Institute of Banking and Finance (LIBF), and we were renamed following the sale of our education and training activities in March 2023.

- Building financial capability: We work directly and through sponsorship and partnerships to reach individuals across the UK, empowering them with the skills they need to become financially capable. We believe everyone should have an opportunity to be financially capable.

Trustees - Voluntary Role
Bring your fundraising skills and transport knowledge to equip us for the future
Campaign for Better Transport is the national organisation advocating for better, greener, fairer transport options for everyone. This includes access to walking, cycling, public transport and shared mobility. Sustainable transport provides access to jobs, education, vital public services, shops, leisure and friends and family, while limiting negative impacts on air quality and the environment.
As a trustee, you’ll have an essential role in contributing towards the future direction of Campaign for Better Transport and making a real difference to our long-term resilience and our subsequent ability to create better public transport.
The last few years have seen increasing difficulty for charities and not-for-profits in the transport sector in raising funds, particularly from Charitable Foundations and Trusts and although good accessible transport is vital to the everyday lives of most people, it is also not an area which resonates for individual fundraising.
For this reason, we’re looking for trustees with voluntary sector fundraising experience to bring new ideas on generating longer term and more diverse funding streams and/or experience of working in small businesses who know how to deliver maximum impact from limited resources. Ideally you will be passionate about transport and have a strong network of industry related contacts.
Our board has a good working relationship with our small but dedicated team of staff, and prides itself on being very friendly and relaxed.
Commitment:
- Four Board meetings per year
- Optionally serve on Finance Sub-committee which meets virtually four times per year before the board meeting
- Optionally serve on appointments as required
- Occasional stakeholder and/or fundraising events and training.
The client requests no contact from agencies or media sales.

About us
Care4Calais is a volunteer-based charity providing essential aid and support for refugees in France and the UK.
In northern France we operate year-round from Calais, providing warm clothing, bedding, food and assistance to refugees who live in appalling and dangerous conditions.
Across the UK we collect and distribute clothes, shoes, mobile phones and other essential items, as well as offering social support and interaction, including language lessons, sport and music workshops. We also help with vital access to legal, medical and educational services.
Our Legal Access Department is an access to justice project that exists to arrange critical legal representation for people seeking asylum and, more than this, to support people through the hostility and difficulty of claiming asylum. The department, made up mostly of volunteers, works tirelessly to ensure that people feel informed, empowered, and less alone.
The Role
In this busy, hands-on role, you’ll gain an understanding of how the UK asylum system works, enabling us to provide the highest standards of service to those who need us most. You will be taking them through our client questionnaire to gather information important for their referral to legal support.
This role requires a commitment of 10 hours per week distributed across the week to ensure that our clients receive the best possible service. Your volunteering hours can be adapted to fit your schedule.
We’re looking for people with a genuine passion for human rights and refugee protection. If that’s you, please get in touch. This is a fantastic opportunity to help people seeking safety to access the legal support they deserve.
Responsibilities include:
- Attending induction, ongoing training and keep up to date with resources and procedure to ensure you can carry out the role effectively and efficiently.
- Taking on new cases each week, whilst also providing ongoing support to existing clients
- Providing emotional and practical support to people in detention
- Be organised and accurate with information, with an eye for detail
- Maintaining and updating client records
- Liaising with other professionals including lawyers and Migrant Help, or other teams within Care4Calais

- Following safeguarding procedures and reporting safeguarding incidents appropriately
- Keeping your line manager updated on any issues which may impact your ability to carry out the role effectively
To apply please provide a covering letter outlining why you want to volunteer for this role, and why you think you would be suitable. This should be a minimum of 100 words.
