About The Role
As a Community Builder, you will be at the heart of our Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD) approach, supporting the charity’s objective to enhance reach with a focus on enabling a positive impact for members of the armed forces community facing challenges. You will do this by creating sustainable, community-led solutions that enhance their well-being. You will identify strengths within local communities, foster meaningful connections, and utilise this to create new networks and drive positive change.
We are looking for a motivated and dynamic individual who is passionate about collaboration and community-led change. If you believe in the power of strong, connected communities, this role is for you.
Working closely with Community Development Managers across regions within the UK, you will create opportunities for members of the Armed Forces community and their families to re-engage with Help for Heroes and their local community.
About You
You will have experience of working alongside communities to create the conditions for community-led change, ideally with experience of Asset-Based Community Development. You will have good organisational skills, energy and the ability to listen, build relationships, and inspire collaboration which will be essential in creating positive, lasting change.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct outreach to celebrate community strengths and foster engagement.
- Develop and embed an ABCD-informed way of working.
- Identify ‘Connectors’ across the community and provide opportunities for them to come together regularly to exchange learning and map community assets. Facilitate gatherings that empower community members to share their strengths, co-create initiatives, and foster a sense of belonging and ownership.
- Encourage and support community-led action in response to local AFC needs/ interests through peer led/ co – designed initiatives.
- Increase awareness of challenges faced by military personnel, veterans, and their families.
We are looking for someone with:
- A Community Development qualification and/or at least 3 years' experience in community development or a similar role with transferable skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships that drive action.
- Experience working within an integrated multi-disciplinary service.
- A track record of successful collaboration with partners and stakeholders.
PLEASE NOTE:
- The successful candidate will need to be based within an hour’s commute of their allocated locality and there is a requirement to travel within a 75-mile radius of this location (travel expenses covered). The successful candidate must possess a valid full UK driver’s license and have access to a reliable vehicle with business insurance for work purposes.
- The successful candidate will work 35 hours a week over 5 days, including evening and weekend work as required by the company. Flexibility in working hours is necessary to ensure a total of 70 hours is covered over a 2-week period so please take this into consideration before applying.
About the Team
You will be part of a newly formed Community Development team, dedicated to embedding Asset-Based Community Development. We will amplify the strengths already present in communities, forging lasting partnerships and initiatives that empower the Armed Forces community to thrive. Together the Community Development Managers and the Community Builders will strengthen local communities using resources and networks that are readily available. You will do this to proliferate opportunities for sustainable participation and engagement alongside a multi-disciplinary team in order to support the Armed Forces Community to live well after service.

This role will lead on the business development for the charity’s key initiatives. Reporting to the CEO, your responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
- Work with the CEO, Operations Director, and wider team to implement the strategy for securing income-generating partnerships for 2025-2029.

This is the opportunity to play an influential and impactful role in one of the most important causes of our generation – the climate emergency. Trees will enable 25% of the UK's 2050 net zero ambition and this role sits at the heart of this, supporting one of the UK’s largest woodland creation partnerships, England’s Community Forests.
The Community Forest Trust (CFT) is a charity that supports, enables and champions England’s Community Forests (ECFs). Across England there are 15 Community Forests that deliver social, economic, and environmental impact through woodland creation and restoration. In 2024/2025 they will plant over 2.5 million trees, most of which are funded through Defra’s national tree planting programme, the Nature for Climate Fund Programme.
The Managing Director will have the drive, rigour, and organisational and stakeholder management skills to develop and deliver a new CFT Business Plan. The current Business Plan was developed in 2022 and runs to March 2025. It has now been delivered.
The Managing Director will be responsible for providing the overall leadership and management of CFT and ensure effective governance and compliance with all legal requirements. To fulfil this aim, the Managing Director must ensure that robust structures and systems are in place to deliver CFT’s strategic priorities and CFT’s charitable aims and objectives.

- Take ownership of delivering the future direction and shape of CFT and deliver the CFT vision
- Provide organisational leadership for CFT, establishing and implementing business objectives through a business plan
- Work closely with the Chair of the Board, Trustees and staff, building positive working relationships in a constructive and consultative environment
- Manage the agreements (service delivery) with the ECFs with who CFT has a specific and formal arrangement
- Deliver the services and outcomes to the ECF Network, the Forests that CFT supports and those Forests that CFT runs
- Support project development work taking place at local level to support the Northern Forest programme
- Develop and lead funding strategies and write or assist with writing funding bids when required

To be successful in the role, the postholder must have previous senior management and leadership experience gained at an organisation of comparable scale and complexity. A track record of developing and implementing Business Plans is also a must, along with experience of representing an organisation to external stakeholders and forming effective partnerships, working effectively with a board of trustees or equivalent, and managing contracts and service providers.

The purpose of this role is to lead on fundraising for the organisation. You’ll build relationships with funders – mostly trust, foundations and corporates and secure income. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Relationship Management: Proactively identify and open doors to new funding opportunities by leveraging your existing networks with trusts, foundations and corporates; Strengthen relationships with Integrity Action’s existing funders, identifying opportunities to increase and extend their financial commitments; and Represent Integrity Action confidently and persuasively in presentations, meetings, and events to introduce our mission to potential funders and key stakeholders.
2. Trusts, Foundations, and Corporate Fundraising: Develop and submit compelling, targeted written proposals and applications to trusts, foundations, and corporate funders; Collaborate closely with the Integrity Action team to effectively translate project designs into persuasive funding proposals; Work closely with partners by submitting high quality inputs to external bids where we are a sub-partner; and Liaise closely with consultants who support us with corporate fundraising.
3. Strategic Fundraising Support: Lead prospecting for new funding opportunities and develop donor engagement plans to expand the funding pipeline; Maintain and oversee fundraising tracking systems ensuring accurate records of donor interactions, pipelines, and reporting; and Regularly update senior management and the Board on fundraising strategies and progress.

Location: Remote – UK based. Our offices are in Toynbee Hall, East London, but we welcome applicants from across the UK who do not wish to relocate. You should be willing to travel to our London office for team and project meetings up to six times per year. Project related travel costs will be reimbursed.
Hours: Four or five days a week (flexible – minimum 28 hours / week).
