Science Communications Officer - FTC
The Officer is part of the Science Communications Team, which inspires and informs the public, donors and researchers about dementia research, the progress being made, wider developments in the field and the impact of Alzheimer’s Research UK (ARUK) funding.
The postholder plays a vital role in helping tell the story and scientific narrative of ARUK to a variety of audiences, cementing the charity’s role as a leading authority on dementia research in the UK and globally. They also help to create a clear, creative, and compelling case for the need for research and the progress being made towards finding a cure. This means the postholder will be an effective and inspiring communicator, creating and landing content covering ARUK research, impact and commentary across multiple communications channels and audiences.
Key responsibilities include finding and developing stories around ARUK research and helping to create and deliver communications plans around our research initiatives. This includes: pitching stories to media, creating social media and digital content, such as blogs and website summaries and help creating content for supporter newsletters. The officer will also be part of our press operations which involves handling media calls. This includes some out of hours cover.
The postholder will also be expected to engage in broader communications and events work both within the team and beyond it. This is a challenging, creative and busy role, but one that oversees a function that is critical to ARUK and its mission.
This is a 12-month Fixed Term Contract
Key Responsibilities:
· Support in the development and implementation of communications plans for ARUK launches and major initiatives, as well as responding to other stories in the news.
· Ensure that ARUK’s research portfolio, strategy and ambition is communicated to the public through digital channels including our website, blog and social media.
· Develop and maintain a first-rate working knowledge of the dementia research field, including ARUK’s portfolio, strategy, impact and history.
· Develop and maintain high-level playbooks that make the case for research and the work of ARUK, and devise and develop innovative and creative communications products and campaigns based on this narrative.
· Work with teams across the charity, including Research, Fundraising and Marketing to find and communicate suitable projects, success stories and researcher case studies for inclusion in public and supporter-facing communications.
· Contribute to ARUK’s proactive and reactive media communications by being part of the news desk, including out-of-hours queries (organised through an on-call rota, and occasional ad hoc) and finding ARUK-related newsworthy stories to pitch to the media.
· Help monitor and showcase the impact of our media activity and contribute to media training ARUK employees.
· Help manage multiple short- and long-term projects, working with teams within the charity and key external stakeholders.
· Deliver presentations about dementia and our communications around dementia and research as part of employee and external events.
· Maintain a watching brief of the dementia research sector to identify emerging technologies and trends that might benefit ARUK’s work.
· Develop and maintain relationships with a wide network of experts from across the dementia research field, including through attending research conferences and representing ARUK.
· Ensure communications activities comply with ARUK’s tone, branding and style guide.
· Undertake any other relevant duties and projects delegated by the team manager in line with the responsibilities of the post.
What we are looking for:
· Educated to degree level in life sciences or demonstrable relative work experience.

As part of our Agile ways of working you will be required to work approximately 2 days a week from the office, which is subject to the requirements of the role and the business needs. Flexibility on where you work can be split between working from home and our office.

We are excited to be seeking a talented and motivated individual to join Southampton Hospitals Charity as our legacy and in-memory manager to help shape our legacy development programme and in-memory strategy.
The role will involve leading on the operational delivery of both legacy and in-memory marketing and legacy case management. The postholder will implement donor-centric approaches to legacy and in-memory campaigns and events, case management, and supporter stewardship.
We are looking for an individual who is as passionate about fundraising as the work we do as a Charity to join our team. This role will be key, as we launch our ambitious new strategy to grow our income, reach and impact.
Main responsibilities
Legacies
- Develop and implement a comprehensive legacy strategy, identifying new opportunities, products, and campaigns to increase engagement, consideration, and pledger numbers.
- Work across the Charity to ensure legacies are integrated across relevant channels to reach key audiences.
- Build a portfolio of case studies to showcase how legacy giving has had a transformative impact across our hospitals.
- Build and nurture relationships with legacy pledgers and prospects, organising legacy information and engagement events to position the Charity prominently in legator consideration.
- Responsible for legacy case management and be the main contact for our legacy consultancy partner, ensuring all processes are compliant, efficient, and deliver for the Charity and for its supporters.
- Communicate with empathy and professionalism with executors, solicitors, and beneficiaries’ families, including handling enquiries and confirming receipt of legacy notifications.
- Work with the director of operations & resources on disputes and contested legacies, to ensure these are handled appropriately and sensitively.
- Work with the director of finance to ensure all information is recorded appropriately to ensure correct accounting and accrual of legacy income.
- Support the director of finance on legacy matters relating to the Charity’s annual external audit.
In-Memory
- Support with the development and management of stewardship programmes for in-memory donors, ensuring journeys are sensitive, supportive, and effective.
- Have responsibility for the efficient use of all in-memory payment platforms, ensuring that they are utilised correctly, report accurately, and are employed as part of a strong stewardship programme.
- Work closely with the hospital engagement team for the promotion of in-memory giving opportunities
- Working with the marketing & campaigns manager, develop and implement relevant campaigns, including within our hospitals, to increase awareness of in-memory giving
- Support the events & community fundraising officer with events organised by families and friends in memory of loved ones, ensuring appropriate stewardship processes are put into place.
- Look for new opportunities for developing in-memory products, developing cases for support and implementation plans to ensure the Charity’s in-memory programme is at the forefront of new practice.
- Work closely with the grants manager to ensure restricted and tribute funds are able to have an impact in the areas donors wish to see.
- Develop and cultivate strong relationships with supporters by offering suitable opportunities to remember someone special.
- Working with the marketing and communications team, source and develop case stories for use across the in-memory programme and charity.
Knowledge and experience
- Proven experience in legacy administration within the charity sector
- Certificate in Charity Legacy Administration (ILM) is desirable
- Proven experience in developing and delivering legacy, in-memory, and/or individual giving strategies and campaigns across multiple channels.
- Extensive experience in donor stewardship, fine-tuning supporter journeys, and delivering excellence in supporter care.

Role Purpose:
The Clinical Director will provide strategic clinical leadership to the Restraint Reduction Network, ensuring that all initiatives, standards, and practices align with evidence-based approaches, human rights principles, and the goal of reducing restrictive practices across education health and social care settings. Role Summary

The Democratic Progress Institute (DPI) is an independent non-governmental organisation established in consultation with international experts in conflict resolution and democratic advancement. DPI seeks to promote peace and democracy building through strengthened public dialogue and engagement.
Overall Purpose of the Position
The Head of Programmes is responsible for overseeing the implementation of the organisations’ project activities and leads the DPI Programmes team, also ensuring a close working relationship with Finance, Fundraising and Operations colleagues. The role works with the CEO on operational, fundraising, strategic and monitoring levels and also involves representing DPI at external meetings and events as needed.
Project Management
- Coordinates the day-to-day operational management of the DPI’s programmes, including the implementation of activities and financial matters– in close coordination with relevant colleagues.
- Monitors the implementation of project activities and ensures compliance with the strategic framework as well as internal procedures and policies including financial and administrative.
- Facilitates programmes and events meetings (including designing the agenda and overseeing the organisation and preparation of materials)

Reporting

· Follows up with the team and gathers the reporting of meetings.
· Oversees deliverables and performance of the M&EE and Communications consultants.
Network
- Represents and promotes DPI’s work in varied contexts and maintains relationships with external stakeholders in Türkiye and in Europe such as political party representatives.
- Builds and maintains relationships with partners and donors alongside the Funding and Development Manager when needed.
- Carries out frequent visits to Türkiye and maintains a good working knowledge of the facts on the ground when needed.
Project Development
- Translates strategy into operational objectives and develops project/fundraising proposals including concept notes and narrative project proposals in conjunction with Funding and Development Manager.
- Identifies operational developments needs and develops corresponding opportunities and initiatives.
· Supports the CEO in strategic developments related to the project.

The successful candidate should have the following

Donor Stewardship and Prospect Research
- Ensure all donors are thanked promptly and feel valued and engaged.
- Manage and maintain accurate donor data in Donorfy, producing reports on donor activity and performance.
- Monitor and manage fundraising and donation enquiries through our development@ inbox, responding and referring them as appropriate.
- Research new fundraising prospects and initiatives across individuals, community groups, small trusts, local businesses and other potential supporters. Maintain organised records of prospects and recommendations.
Trusts & Foundations (Small Grants)
- Support the Fundraising and Communications Manager and Trust and Foundations Fundraiser with the small grants pipeline, including prospect research, applications and reporting.
- Work closely with appropriate staff and service coordinators on project budgets, reporting and planning as needed.
Other responsibilities
- Support and oversee fundraising volunteers and interns as required.
- Work collaboratively within a busy staff team, participate in meetings and planning processes, and contribute to organisational development.
- Undertake any other duties appropriate to the role, as agreed with the Fundraising and Communications Manager or CEO.
Person specification
Essential:
- Demonstrable fundraising and supporter-facing experience, with the ability to manage multiple income streams simultaneously.
- Knowledge and experience of individual and community fundraising.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to tailor content to different audiences.
- Experience using CRM databases, with confidence managing day-to-day data processes.
- Highly organised with the ability to prioritise and manage multiple deadlines and priorities.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Strong research skills and a track record of writing funding bids and reports.
- Ability to build productive, collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- A positive, solutions-focused “can-do” attitude, with the ability to adapt to change.
- Confidence representing the organisation at community events.
- Ability to work within a budget.
- Strong analytical skills, with the ability to interpret data and measure impact.

We are seeking a strategic and values-driven Associate Director of Governance to set the standard for governance, risk, audit and compliance across the organisation. Reporting to the Chief Executive, you will work in close partnership with Trustees, Council, the Audit & Risk Committee, and senior leaders to ensure decision-making is transparent, well-governed, and aligned with organisational purpose.
The role
The Associate Director of Governance will hold end-to-end responsibility for constitutional governance, board and committee effectiveness, regulatory compliance, risk management, internal audit and data protection.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading best-practice governance in line with the Royal Charter and Charity Commission expectations
- Acting as a trusted adviser to Trustees, Council and the Audit & Risk Committee

About you
You will be a senior governance professional with substantial experience operating at organisational and board level, ideally within a charity, membership body or regulated environment.
You will bring:
- Proven senior-level experience in governance, legal or regulatory contexts

- Experience leading teams and managing complex, cross-organisational workstreams
- A sound working knowledge of GDPR and regulatory compliance

A governance qualification (or equivalent experience), experience spanning risk management, internal audit, insurance or data protection, and familiarity with professional or membership bodies, would be advantageous.
