JOB DESCRIPTION
Our charity shops rely on generous donations made by the public to raise crucial funds for Marie Curie. From clothes, homeware and books, to CDs and DVDs, we sell a wide variety of products.
We are looking for volunteers to help us sort through all these donations, pick out the best items and prepare and sell them to our customers. Without the help of our dedicated volunteers we could not provide our customers with high quality items at affordable prices. This allows us to raise funds so our nurses can continue to provide care to terminally ill people and support for their families.
Your role will include some of, but is not restricted to, the following tasks:
- Sort through donations, being aware of the possibility of a hidden gem and better quality brands
- Prepare items for sale by checking, hanging, steaming, sizing and pricing them
- Work on the shop floor and provide excellent customer service to our shoppers
- Operate the till
- Help out with basic housekeeping to keep the shop clean and tidy

Panellists will inform and influence the support we offer to older people and help us deliver services that older people need and value.
What impact does this role have?
Our Panellists will help us to shape our services and our strategy. They will support us to make sure that people know about our charity, that our services have a positive impact on the lives of older people, and that we are a valued, local resource for older people to rely on.
What are the responsibilities of the role?
• To support our charity and its aims and to act as an ambassador for our services and projects and the wider Age UK network.
• To ensure our charity is aware of emerging needs and issues related to older people in the City and County that could influence future planning.
• To represent the wider community of older people and their interests – including topics such as social, health, wealth, and longer-term needs.
• To develop an understanding of customer service within the charity and how it can be improved for older people.
• To maintain a positive commitment to, and active promotion of, Age UK Notts’ Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion policy.

What is the time commitment?
• The charity holds four meetings per year (Including the AGM), with each meeting lasting around 2 hours.There will be a mix of in-person and online meetings.
• In addition, Panellists need to set aside a minimum of 1 hours reading time before each meeting.
• Depending upon agreed actions, Panellists may be asked to dedicate some time to activities within the community, or for the charity outside of the meetings.
• Should exceptional circumstances arise, there may be a need for additional meetings, but this will be a rare occurrence.
• A chair and vice-chair will be elected by the members every 3 years and holders may serve a maximum of 6 years in total in either role.
What training will you be given?
You will be given a basic induction to the Charity and some basic compliance training to allow you to undertake your role.

About Sense Touchbase Pears
Sense TouchBase Pears is a welcoming, accessible environment where everyone can feel connected, included and part of the community. We combine health and social care services with arts, sports and wellbeing activities. And support disabled people to access employment, education, volunteering, and training opportunities.
As an activity volunteer, you will be helping to set up, supervise and interact in some fun activities at the centre from ‘Messy Play’ and ‘Stay and Play’ to craft sessions and supporting with events. This exciting and fast-paced role is a rewarding way to give back to your local community, by helping us to provide affordable and inclusive activities in the area. Please note that at this time we are looking for volunteers aged 18+ due to the busy nature of the role.
Key Duties
As an activity volunteer, you will be an ambassador for TouchBase Pears, and for Sense, as well as being a vital part of the Facilities Team. You will help provide a warm welcome to everyone who comes into the building and help us with our fun and engaging activities.
- Supporting the TouchBase Pears team, working work together to deliver an outstanding experience for every person’s visit.
- Setting up and clearing away activities, including ‘messy play’ and ‘stay and play’
- Supporting with the supervision of activities
- Encouraging participation by interacting with the public
- Helping keep our visitors safe when taking part in the activities
- Adhering to our Health & Safety procedures
- You will be always supported on site during volunteering and a facilities coordinator will be available if you need any support or have any questions. For the weekly role which will be for our Stay and Play, you will eventually be leading the activity without supervision within the room, but a facilities coordinator will always be on site if you need them.
A standard / enhanced Disclosure & Barring check will be required for this volunteer role, which we will support you with.

The Community Café provides a clean, welcoming, safe and secure environment that all members of the community can easily access. Under the direction, you will support the running of Community Café including signposting customers to relevant services.
