Core Purpose
This leadership role is part of the Make-A-Wish UK Extended Leadership Team (ExLT) and is responsible for shaping and driving Make-A-Wish UK’s brand, communications and entertainment strategy. Ensuring the charity is powerfully positioned in the hearts and minds of the public as an organisation to support and donate to.
Leading a team of expert communications, content and digital specialists, the role will champion a strategic and scalable approach to brand, content, and communications. It will ensure our messaging cuts through across all internal and external touchpoints, consistently reflecting our mission to grant a wish for every eligible child.
The Head of Brand, Communications and Entertainment will also oversee the strategic development of key entertainment relationships, including celebrity talent, influencers, media partners, and broadcasters, to amplify our brand presence and support wider organisational objectives.
As a key member of the ExLT, this role will collaborate across departments to strengthen Make-A-Wish UK’s profile, build meaningful connections with stakeholders, and inspire audiences to engage with and support our cause.
Essential Criteria
- Proven experience (5+ years) within senior level brand role including Head of Department or communications/strategy roles, ideally within the charity or not for profit sector.
- Demonstrated success in developing and delivering integrated communications strategies that drive awareness, engagement, and support.
- Proven experience leading organisations through change and successfully embedding new delivery models to improve impact, efficiency, or engagement
- Knowledge of how to develop a consistent brand voice and style.
- Ability to conduct market research, competitive analyses and research on potential target audiences.
- Strong understanding of digital communications, including social media, email marketing, and website content strategy.
- Experience managing crisis communications and safeguarding organisational reputation.

Key Responsibilities
Brand Leadership
- Lead the development and implementation of Make-A-Wish UK’s brand strategy, ensuring it reflects our mission, values, and commitment to children and families.
- Act as brand guardian, maintaining consistency and integrity across all communications and channels, and ensuring alignment with Make-A-Wish International guidelines.
- Use audience insights and market trends to evolve brand positioning, ensuring it remains relevant, compelling, and inclusive.
- Champion brand understanding across the organisation, enabling teams, volunteers, and partners to represent Make-A-Wish UK authentically and effectively.
- Identify and cultivate strategic relationships with media and brand partners, that amplify brand visibility and engagement. Leverage these collaborations to enhance brand equity, reach new audiences, and support long-term brand development goals.
Communications Strategy
- Develop and deliver a communications strategy that builds public awareness, deepens understanding of our mission, and inspires support.
- Lead the creation of impactful campaigns and storytelling that highlight the transformative power of a wish and the voices of children, families, and supporters.
- Lead on providing expert guidance to teams on integrated communications planning and execution, ensuring alignment across all public-facing activity.

- Support the Talent Manager to cultivate new strategic partnerships with agencies and representatives to expand opportunities and increase visibility, ensuring alignment with our values and goals.
Digital & Media Engagement
- Lead the charity’s digital communications strategy, ensuring a vibrant, engaging presence across all platforms.
- Oversee the integration of digital marketing to support fundraising, awareness, and community building,
- Build and maintain relationships with media outlets, influencers, and partners to maximise positive exposure and advocacy.
Team Leadership & Collaboration
- Provide inspiring leadership and development for the Brand, Communications & Entertainment team, fostering a collaborative, inclusive, and high-performing culture.
- Support and role-model cross-functional collaboration, ensuring communications activity aligns with organisational priorities and supports other teams effectively.
- Represent Brand, Communication and Entertainment at the Extended Leadership Team (ExLT), contributing to cross-charity strategy, insight sharing and project delivery.
- Represent Make-A-Wish UK and nurture key relationships as required.
Measurement & Insight
- Work with the Head of Insights and Innovation to develop and apply insights to inform strategic planning.
- Define and track key performance indicators to assess the effectiveness of brand and communications activity, presenting to the senior Leadership Team and Board as required.

Demos is leading the largest trial of digital democracy in Britain.
Trust in politics and politicians is in crisis. Only 24% of people trust politicians to make decisions in the best interests of the country. Polarisation is increasing. At the same time, people want to be involved in the public policy decisions that affect them.
Waves is a €1 million project trialling new technology in local democracy, launched to bring people together to tackle contentious local issues and strengthen trust in local government. Thousands of local people will have the opportunity to shape local government policy on an issue affecting their area.
New AI-powered technology is intended to make it easier, cheaper and quicker for participants to have their say, identify areas of consensus, discuss difficult issues and work through trade-offs together.
We are working in partnership with two trailblazing councils who are both embracing the opportunity to put the public at the heart of their policy making. The trial will begin in the London Borough of Camden to co-develop an approach to adult social care. The trial will then move on to South Staffordshire District Council as they develop an inclusive engagement process to prepare for their next local plan. The partners will also support a further 25 councils to observe and learn from the process so that they too can use the tools in the future.
About the role
We are looking for an experienced programme manager who can steer Waves from now until it completes in December 2026.
You would be joining the programme at a pivotal time as we move from the ‘set-up’ and ‘co-design’ phases of the first 6-months, to the start of the first of our two trials running sequentially over the next 11 months, before moving to a final ‘impact phase’ of dissemination of our toolkits, technology and learning in the final 6 months.
Programme management of Waves means ensuring that the whole project stays on track – on time and on budget – throughout its delivery. There are 5 partners, a number of suppliers and many moving parts, so it is critical that we find someone who can work across the whole programme, anticipating who needs to do what and by when, and ensuring that the programme is delivered successfully so we can draw learnings from it to share widely across the local government, democracy, and tech sectors.
It is worth bearing in mind that Waves is a ‘test and learn’ trial of a new deliberative democratic process using existing and new technology. Therefore, the team is committed to learning from the project and being comfortable with the uncertainty of not knowing exactly what the outcomes are going to be.
What you'll need to be sucessful

- Demonstrable experience managing an equivalent programme in terms of complexity, scale and partners with a solid understanding of project management methods.
- Understanding and commitment to the mission of the programme – motivated to tackle issues of low trust in democracy among UK citizens with digital democratic platforms and deliberative processes a crucial part of the solution.
- Team management, interpersonal and communication skills – ability to lead and motivate a team with diverse skills and priorities to deliver a programme of great complexity and uncertainty, including fostering collaboration and trust, managing conflicts, maintaining transparency and empowering different partners to perform effectively.
- Strong strategic thinking and decision-making skills – the ability to align activities with overall programme objectives, making informed decisions based on programme lead and partner inputs and, where possible, data and analysis, and drive the programme towards successful outcomes.
- Ability to identify potential risks, develop mitigation strategies and manage issues that may arise during the programme lifecycle – ideally in an innovation context, one working with diverse partners with different ways of working or when using technology/ conducting trials with the public.
- An interest in, and comfort working with, innovative technologies that utilise AI and collect data, as well as an understanding of the risks and sensitivities surrounding the use of AI, among the public and within the public sector.
- Experience of owning and managing a large-scale budget, conducting calculations when there are changes from the plan, and maintaining clear and robust tracking of expenditure to ensure financial accountability.
- Demonstrable ability to adapt to changing circumstances, solve problems creatively and maintain momentum and energy during challenging situations.
- Highly collaborative, with a commitment to teamwork and inclusivity.

Torbay’s Community Helpline was established during the Covid pandemic and has since been developed by the local community into a central access point to the voluntary and community sector as a whole. Since 2021, it has also been the front door for new Adult Social Care referrals in the area through a unique partnership with the local statutory sector. Providing the best possible support to local residents the Helpline’s strapline ‘One Call – That’s All’ sums up the holistic approach. Individuals and families can access a wide range of support from food parcels to mental health support, help with isolation to debt advice etc. The Helpline links into over 100 voluntary sector organisations locally and into grassroots networks of residents offering support to each other. The Helpline has a strengths-based approach to its operations, with callers often helping others after they have received some support.
We are looking for someone who can lead this initiative into the next phase. Someone with the relevant experience who can identify the Helpline’s potential and - working with staff, volunteers, voluntary sector and statutory sector partners - deliver excellent support to our residents and develop the Helpline to meet future needs.

About the role

The Café – Nourishing Food, Nurturing Community
Our café is the social heart of The Bridge — a welcoming, accessible, and inclusive space where everyone can connect, share, and feel at home. Serving seasonal, plant-based meals prepared in-house, the café champions women-led enterprises and affordable, healthy food. It hosts many of our wellbeing and creative programmes, and through initiatives like the Pay-What-You-Can Supper Club, supports emerging women chefs and builds everyday acts of care and solidarity. The café has the opportunity to not only advances our mission of improving women’s health and wellbeing but also generates vital trading income and partnership opportunities.
While it currently operates at a deficit, it plays a vital role in advancing our wellbeing and community objectives. We are now focused on realising its full commercial potential. A feasibility study is underway to explore a range of operational and business models that will transition the café into a sustainable, profit-making enterprise. Plans include expanding income-generating opportunities through hosting more events, developing an external catering offer, and maximising use of the space for private hire and functions during weekends. This work will ensure the café continues to embody our values while contributing significantly to the financial sustainability of The Bridge
Room Hire – Spaces that Enable Collaboration and Impact
Our professional meeting and event spaces are used by charities, community groups, and corporate partners for workshops, training, and strategic planning. With over 500 bookings a year and a 89% return rate, these rooms are known for their quality, warmth, and service. The income they generate supports our wider mission, while also acting as a catalyst for new partnerships and collaborations.
We now aim to build on this success by increasing utilisation on our most popular days (Tuesday to Thursday) and attracting new clients to fill capacity on Mondays, Fridays, evenings, and weekends. We are recruiting a Policy Coordinator / Lead—a strategic and collaborative thinker who will work closely with Liverpool City Council and a wide range of partners to shape food policy and drive systemic change. This role will lead initiatives to improve food provision for children and young people, influence council policies, and secure funding to advance the goals of the Good Food Plan.

Yet, challenges remain. Liverpool continues to face high levels of food insecurity and health inequality. The community food movement is under pressure from inflation and supply chain issues. The Policy Coordinator / Lead will play a key role in addressing these challenges by embedding Good Food principles across council departments, leading strategic initiatives, and amplifying the voices of our communities.
Main purposes of job:
● To collaborate with Liverpool City Council in reviewing policies and procedures to embed Good Food principles across relevant departments and programmes of work.
● To lead initiatives that improve food provision for children and young people in education and learning settings across Liverpool.
● To scope and secure funding opportunities to advance the goals of the Good Food Plan.
● To collaborate with partners to embed a community-centred approach to improving health, wellbeing and tackling social inequalities.
Key responsibilities:
● Develop and advise on policies and strategies to integrate Good Food principles into council operations, contributing to Sustainable Food Places silver award submission.
● Re-establish and lead Liverpool’s Good Food Policy working group.
● Lead the development a city action plan to improve food provision for children and young people in education and learning settings across Liverpool.
● Conduct and synthesise research, data, lived experience, and policy insights to produce evidence-based recommendations/ actions.
● Document and showcase progress towards the goals of the Good Food Plan.
● Collaborate with national and local stakeholders, including public, private, and VCSE sectors, to develop and implement strategic food-related projects.
● Provide leadership on food policy within the council, aligning initiatives with broader city objectives such as sustainability, public health, and economic growth.
● Identify and pursue funding opportunities to ensure the sustainability of food systems initiatives.
● Represent Feeding Liverpool and Liverpool City Council at local and national events.

This is an exciting opportunity to join the legal charity ATLEU (Anti Trafficking and Labour Exploitation Unit), in a vital operational leadership role. This is a role for someone with extensive operational management experience, ideally within the charity, non-profit sector and in human rights work. The Head of Operations will provide leadership in all operational matters, supporting the organisation's mission and long-term objectives, supporting ATLEU’s growth, resilience, and sustainability as well as building a flexible and supportive environment that enables the ATLEU team to do the challenging work that they do.
This role is line managed by and works closely with the Chief Executive. You will be a member of ATLEU’s Senior Management team and work closely with and supervise the work of the People & Inclusion Manager (recently started in post), the Operations & Projects Coordinator and the Billing Coordinator. The Operations team is a small team that works collaboratively to ensure all areas are covered at all times. As such, you will be willing to chip in and take on tasks of other team members if urgent matters arise or when providing holiday cover.

You will have a track record of achievement in this field and have excellent interpersonal and communication skills with strong financial and business acumen. Objectives of the post
To lead and ensure the smooth operational running of ATLEU, with particular focus on finance, people, information technology and governance and compliance.
To manage ATLEU’s team of operations staff including human resources, operations and projects, finance and external bookkeepers.
To work closely with the Chief Executive to develop systems for implementing and monitoring ATLEU’s strategic plan.
Main Responsibilities
1. Leadership and Strategy
- Participate in strategic and business planning processes and play a leading role, working with the CEO and trustees to develop the strategic plan, ensuring all team members understand it and their role in it.
- Serve as a key member of the Senior Management Team (SMT) contributing to the strategic direction and day to day management of the organisation.
- Develop and lead monitoring and evaluation processes for all activities associated with our strategy, including setting and reviewing annual business plan priorities and targets, communicating progress and highlighting potential areas for development and increased focus. Be a champion for embedding learning into the culture of the organisation and collaborate with consultants and staff to ensure there are effective monitoring learning and evaluation frameworks in place across ATLEU’s projects and services.
- Lead and manage ATLEU’s operations staff, including ATLEU’s Operations and Projects Coordinator, People and Inclusion Manager and Billing Coordinator.
- Lead the development and maintenance of organisational policies, procedures, and systems to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
- To work closely with the Director of Saltworks to support the operational running of ATLEU’s trading subsidiary Saltworks, through developing the financial and operational infrastructure and management of the organisation.
2. Finance
- Lead ATLEU’s financial planning, management and reporting processes.
- Direct, manage and document ATLEU’s financial policies, systems and controls, ensuring that financial systems are effective and up to date.
- Scrutinise monthly financial data and produce financial reports for the CEO and trustees, including quarterly cashflows
- Prepare ATLEU’s annual operating budgets and financial reports for funders and oversee project budgets.
- Ensure the year-end financial accounts and audit process is completed satisfactorily and delivered on time, ensuring all financial data and other data needed is provided.
- Ensure that accurate records and accounts of monies claimed are held on all cases and liaise with the Head of Legal Practice to ensure compliance with the Solicitors Accounts Rules.
- Oversee ATLEU’s bookkeeping and legal aid billing and reporting and ensure all monies, including grant monies and training invoices are claimed and paid promptly.
- Maintain oversight of bookkeepers and auditors, taking responsibility for managing relationships with them
- Manage ATLEU’s banking arrangements, ensuring that they are effective, secure and fit for purpose.
3. Office and Operations
- Work with the Senior Management and Operations teams to ensure that all colleagues have the operational support needed to do their jobs effectively;
- Liaise with building management for both offices, manage any rent negotiations and any future office moves
- Lead on the annual insurance renewal process, provide the required data and lead discussions with brokers to ensure good value for money on all policies;
- Support the Operations and Projects Coordinator to ensure that both ATLEU offices provide a safe and welcoming environment for ATLEU staff, clients and other visitors and that they comply with all appropriate legislation and regulations;
- Work with the Operations & Project Coordinator to maintain the Office Manual and associated policies and ensure that they are up to date and reviewed as appropriate and monitor compliance with those policies.
- Oversee day-to-day operations including premises, equipment, IT systems, ordering supplies, procurement and workflow and archive management and ensure that processes are in place to restore functionality as required.
- To ensure the most effective use of resources and identify areas for cost reduction or cost avoidance along with process and functional improvement, including developing ATLEU’s IT infrastructure to reduce reliance on paper files.
4. Human Resources
- The Head of Operations plays a pivotal role in mentoring and supporting the People and Inclusion Manager across all HR-related matters, including staff wellbeing and EDI activities.
- In the absence of the People & Inclusion Manager or when facing conflicting deadlines, the Head of Operations is expected to actively participate in all HR tasks.
- Support the People & Inclusion Manager with day-to-day HR tasks, processes and systems, responding to queries and problem solving when needed;
- Provide guidance to the Senior Management Team with regular updates on HR related issues as needed;
- Support the People and Inclusion Manager to review, develop and roll out HR policies and provide training to staff where required, ensuring they are legislatively sound, fit with our values and align with our strategic goals.
- Oversee the coordination of the organisation’s volunteer programme, and explore ways to maximise the value both ATLEU and volunteers gain from the programme.
- Model positive, fair and open people leadership and support other managers in their supervisory capacity.
5. Governance and Compliance
- Work with the Chief Executive to continue to strengthen the governance of the charity, ensuring that all aspects of governance adhere to best practices and meet regulatory requirements.
- Ensure that ATLEU complies with the requirements of all relevant regulatory bodies including the Charity Commission and Companies House and ensuring ATLEU is compliant with all compliance relevant to a not for profit legal firm e.g the Legal Aid Agency, Solicitor’s Regulation Authority, Specialist Quality Mark, Immigration Advice Authority and CILEX.
- Manage the Board, AGM and committee meeting calendar, ensuring well-structured agendas and facilitating effective decision-making processes with clear records of these meetings and management of actions arising.
- Develop and implement governance policies and procedures that align with regulatory requirements and organisational needs.
- Ensure the SMT, Board and other parts of the governance receives comprehensive, timely, and accurate information to support informed decision-making.
- Stay abreast of relevant legislation and governance best practices, implementing changes as necessary.
- Develop and maintain effective systems and frameworks for compliance, risk management, and operational efficiency.
6. Information Technology / Data Protection and Cyber Security
- Support the Operations and Projects Coordinator in ensuring IT systems function appropriately and securely and new systems are developed to improve efficiencies for caseworkers and for audit and research.
- Work with the Head of Legal Practice and Operations and Projects Coordinator on the continued development of and improvements to our legal aid case management system.
- Ensure ATLEU has robust IT and cyber security policies and procedures in place, and oversee their implementation across the organisation.
- Develop and maintain the organisation’s IT and business continuity plan and update it annually.
- Oversee ATLEU’s day-to-day relationships with external IT support, ensuring IT systems function effectively and providing or facilitating staff support;
- Collaborate with external IT support on projects to enhance and modernise ATLEU’s systems, ensuring they remain up-to-date and secure;
- Take overall responsibility for the data protection obligations of the organisation. Oversee the implementation of up-to-date and compliant data protection policies including data retention and destruction, home and remote working, emails and the internet, and ensure that sensitive and financial information is securely stored and confidentiality and privacy is maintained.
- Keep abreast of changes and updates to Data Protection legislation and ensure that staff receive regular training on Data Protection and Cyber Security.
7. Other
