The Hampstead Garden Suburb Trust protects, maintains and enhances the unique character of Hampstead Garden Suburb - an internationally important example of early 20th-century town planning and architecture.

The Architectural Support Officer plays a central role in this work. You will support the day-to-day operation of the Trust’s consent process, helping applicants and their advisers with applications, maintaining accurate records, and ensuring decisions are communicated clearly, professionally and with authority.

This is a varied role combining administration, public-facing work and exposure to architecture and conservation. It would suit someone with an interest in the built environment and heritage who enjoys detailed work and engaging with the public.

The role supports a high volume of applications across the Suburb and is central to the Trust’s day-to-day operation.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

Architectural and technical support

• Support the architectural team in reviewing applications, including preparing summaries and assisting with research and policy.
• Maintain a strong working understanding of the Trust’s Design Guidance and relevant policies.
• Assist applicants in understanding how proposals align with the Trust’s requirements while being clear about the Trust’s role and the limits of advice that can be provided.
• Attend occasional site visits with colleagues to view properties and proposals.
• There will be opportunities to contribute to talks and events, depending on interests and experience.

Application and consent process

• Manage the administration of applications for Trust consent, ensuring they are registered, validated and processed efficiently.
• Act as a first point of contact for applicants and their advisers, providing clear guidance on process and requirements.
• Calculate and process application fees; raise invoices and maintain accurate financial records.
• Notify neighbours and manage consultation processes in line with Trust procedures.
• Prepare and issue decision letters and consent documentation.
• Track applications through each stage of the process, ensuring deadlines and actions are monitored and progressed.

Committee and governance support

• Prepare and circulate papers for Plans Committee and Trust Council.
• Take clear and accurate minutes and support follow-up actions.
• Assist in the preparation of reports and recommendations.

Records and systems

• Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of applications, decisions and property information.
• Support ongoing improvements to record-keeping, processes and digital systems.
• Ensure documentation is well organised, accessible and compliant with Trust requirements.

Team and office contribution

• Respond to general enquiries from residents by phone, email and in person.
• Work collaboratively with colleagues to support the smooth running of the Trust office.
• Undertake any other duties relevant to the role as required.

TITLE: Volunteer Coordinator

JOB PURPOSE: To cultivate, sustain and manage a volunteer pipeline to help with the effective delivery of our face-to-face services in London; enhance the development and wellbeing of our volunteer team(s), and support the volunteers in the facilitation of activities for our beneficiaries, supporting those who wish to do so to become ready for potential employment within the charity.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES:

1. Volunteer management & development

· Support service managers to recruit, induct and train a cohort of volunteers from the local treatment and recovery community, as well as other local community members, ensuring they are trained and supported to undertake their roles safely and with confidence.

· Develop a range of volunteering pathways, with a focus on supporting those who identify as being in recovery as well as those still in structured treatment, creating opportunities that enhance social connectivity, build personal and professional skills, and provide meaningful activity.

· Work with service managers to ensure volunteers receive regular and appropriate supervision, and their wellbeing is monitored and supported.

· Work with service managers to ensure individuals are encouraged and supported to deliver a range of creative and socially based activities within our services, based upon their interests and life skills.

· Work with service managers to ensure volunteer inductions are conducted according to the policies of the charity and that accurate records of their volunteering are kept on our case management system.

· Deliver the five core training workshops in person at the services to the volunteer team(s) and work with the CEO to ensure the training is relevant, accurate and up to date.

· Support and encourage those volunteers who wish to do so to progress through the volunteer programme, attend the relevant training, and undertake the role of team leader, with a focus on potential employment within the charity and elsewhere.

· Work with the Senior Leadership Team to develop and enhance the volunteer offer across all of our London services.

· Support individuals with interview preparation and CV writing, with a focus on both job opportunities within the charity, peer support roles within the wider treatment systems, and other relevant opportunities as they arise.

2. Programme delivery & coordination

· Collaborate with local community organisations and partners to establish and deliver a programme of cultural, physical, and wellbeing activities that support social connection, encourage participation in safe social networks and help to improve mental and physical health.

· Plan, coordinate and evaluate activities with the wider staff team to ensure high-quality, trauma-informed opportunities for volunteers that support sustained recovery where appropriate.

· Work closely with local service managers to ensure referrals to other service providers where necessary to support the wellbeing of volunteers.

· Work with service managers to identify opportunities in the wider community that would support the development, wellbeing and social integration of volunteers where appropriate.

· Work with the senior leadership team to regularly review and revise the development of the volunteer programme to ensure its effective delivery.

· Work with the senior leadership team to ensure the programme delivers measurable outcomes that improve the life chances of the individuals accessing the programme.

3. Outreach & community inclusion

· Coordinate outreach sessions in the community with service managers and the volunteer team to increase the visibility of our services and develop wider partnership working and stakeholder management where appropriate.

· Identify external training sources that may be of benefit to the members of the volunteer team, and support individuals to access such training where appropriate.

· Work with our stakeholders and local drug and alcohol treatment providers to ensure that volunteering opportunities within the charity are available to anyone who wishes to apply, and individuals are supported to do so.

· Work with our stakeholders and local drug and alcohol treatment providers to ensure our volunteers are supported to access peer mentoring and volunteer opportunities within the wider treatment system where appropriate and required.

· Work with local volunteer centres and relevant local organisations, such as universities, to ensure volunteering opportunities within Build on Belief are advertised and available to any members of the wider community to wish to undertake them.

4. Project & financial administration

· Manage project goals and expenditure in line with set budgets, working with colleagues to ensure accurate monitoring, and reporting.

· Support service managers and support workers to ensure volunteer records are up to date and in line with policy and procedures.

· Ensure volunteering data is accurately recorded on our case management system and work with members of the senior leadership team to ensure relevant data is available for our partners, the Board of Trustees and other stakeholders when required.

· Work with service managers to ensure data is collected from our volunteer teams and service users for impact evaluations and case studies as required.

5. General

· Organize annual volunteer events as agreed with the Senior Leadership Team.

· To work with the Operations and Training Managers, Innovation and Development Manager and the Head of Services supporting the development of the weekend services and the management of volunteers.

· To contribute content for social media channels, the organisation’s website, and newsletter.

· To abide by all the policies and procedures of Build on Belief as given to you at the start of your contract with the organisation.

· To work with the Build on Belief staff team and the service providers where appropriate, to create a series of borough-wide volunteer pools to develop and improve the delivery of recovery orientated services in those locations.

You will have a strong track record of leading and developing senior teams.  Financially astute, you have experience overseeing budgets, management accounts, and presenting to Boards, alongside a solid understanding of governance and regulatory compliance. 

You will bring experience in HR and people management, including policy development and employee relations, as well as oversight of systems, IT, and digital infrastructure. Professional qualification in finance, HR, or relevant management discipline would be advantageous. 

Crucially, you will combine strategic insight with a pragmatic, hands-on approach, and will be comfortable operating across a broad remit within a small, agile organisation, and motivated by the opportunity to help shape and strengthen how it operates.

About the role 

As our Senior Internal Auditor, you will support WaterAid to continuously strengthen internal controls and effective risk management by the delivery of internal audit engagements working closely with management to drive sustainable change. 

In this role, you will: 

• Deliver risk-based internal audits to provide assurance that financial and other control procedures are appropriate and implemented as designed.

• Respond to requests for assistance and advice from management in respect of any matters relating to systems of control, risk management and governance.

• Input to the development of the Internal Audit function 

• Support management in developing a fraud aware culture and in fraud response, including undertaking investigations where required

Requirements

To be successful, you will need: 

• Honesty, integrity, tenacity and sensitivity 

• Experienced auditor 

• A professional CCAB (Consultative Committee of Accounting Bodies) accounting qualification or accredited member of the CIIA (Chartered Institute of Internal Auditors)

• A willingness to travel and an ability to work independently with limited supervision 

• Strong numeric, analytical and financial skills, with an aptitude for budgeting and financial management 

• Good understanding of risk management and internal controls 

• Excellent communication and report writing skills, with either native proficiency or advanced professional proficiency in English

Since 1979, AdviceUK has been supporting advice organisations by helping them to be efficient, competent and effective, and by campaigning for a policy environment that supports advice agencies and people needing advice.

We are both a membership body and charity. We support our 700+ members (109 of which are located in Scotland) to provide advice to around 2 million people every year. We are working towards a world in which every individual, regardless of means, is able to access the advice they need to exercise their rights and deal with any legal and social welfare challenges they may face. 

JOB PURPOSE  

To set up and manage our policy and public affairs activities in Scotland ensuring AdviceUK has a strong voice, so we can secure policy change to benefit organisations delivering advice and the communities they serve. The post holder will be responsible for establishing AdviceUK’s first policy and influencing strategy for Scotland, including through developing policy solutions informed by strong evidence and rooted in member experience, and leading effective political and stakeholder engagement which will influence change. They will work closely with colleagues across the UK to join up policy, influencing and communications work. 

KEY TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES  

1.Strategy 

1.1 Develop AdviceUK’s first policy and influencing strategy for Scotland, through consultation with members and stakeholders and analysis of the landscape and opportunities in Scottish policy making. 

1.2 Put plans in place to roll out a specific programme of proactive and reactive policy work to further AdviceUK’s strategic aims in Scotland and represent the voices of Scottish members. 

1.3 Devise measures to monitor the impact of our policy and influencing work in Scotland and report back to staff, trustees, members and stakeholders about the difference we are making. 

2.Policy development 

2.1 Collaborate with AdviceUK members, partners, sector stakeholders and 

beneficiaries to develop clear, concise and authoritative policy positions on key issues. 

2.2 Produce high-quality, well-argued policy materials based on data and evidence, including reports, select committee responses, evidence statements, briefings and responses to Scottish Government consultations. 

2.3 Provide policy input for media statements, press releases and social media posts relating to Scotland, which are managed by the Press Officer and Digital Marketing Officer.

2.4 Develop an expert knowledge of policy issues affecting Advice UK members, keep up to date on the political and legislative environment and identify opportunities to use these to further Advice UK’s strategic objectives. 

2.5 Represent AdviceUK at policy and/or sector meetings and events.

3. Public affairs 

3.1 Roll out a programme of public affairs work including Scottish parliamentary engagement to promote AdviceUK’s strategic priorities. 

3.2 Build and maintain effective relationships with stakeholders across the Scottish Government and parliament, local and decision makers, non-governmental bodies and other relevant stakeholders. 

3.3 Champion an evidence based approach to all Advice UK’s advocacy and external relations work, drawing on research and member insight to inform our campaign messages. 

3.4 Ensure regular opportunities for Advice UK members in Scotland to feed into our public affairs and advocacy work, and regular communications on our impact, to demonstrate how we amplify their voice. 

3.5 Monitor and evaluate public affairs work, including collecting relevant metrics, to report back on our success and inform future campaigns. 

4. Research and data 

4.1 Work with Policy, Programme and Media (PPM) colleagues as well as the wider AdviceUK team to develop the evidence base needed to inform our policy and campaigns work in Scotland. 

4.2 Work with the Research and Policy Analyst to carry out analysis that identifies emerging trends in the Scottish advice world and use this to provide evidence-based policy briefings and specific policy solutions. 

5. General duties 

5.1 Ensure you effectively communicate Advice UK’s vision, mission and objectives to staff, members and external stakeholders.

5.2 Ensure you demonstrate Advice UK’s values and behaviours in all aspects of your work

Project 17 is a small organisation working to end homelessness and severe poverty among migrants with no recourse to public funds (NRPF). 

We are recruiting for two similar positions. One adviser will primarily work with families and provide advice on support under s.17 Children Act 1989. The other adviser will work primarily with adults with care needs and provide advice under the Care Act 2014.

The postholders will provide written and verbal advice and advocacy for migrants with no recourse to public funds. The advice will centre on accessing support from local authorities, but will also cover elements of housing law, asylum support and other areas.

The postholders will form part of our capacity building team, strengthening other organisations to work more effectively with migrants with NRPF. This will involve designing and delivering training, staffing an advice line for professionals and creating and updating resources to support effective advocacy.

Around 80% of the role will be direct advice and advocacy and 20% will be support for other organisations.

We are seeking a Systems and Impact Support Officer to join us to work closely with our Head of Data and Impact and Impact and Evaluation Manager. The role will include administering and developing our database, producing regular reports for varied internal and external audiences, and analysing and summarising information to support programme delivery and decision‑making.
