Job description

Could you lead a user-led disability charity into its next chapter? Join Possability People as our new Chief Officer and help shape what comes next.

Possability People is a user-led pan-impairment disability charity based in Brighton & Hove. For more than 40 years, we’ve worked alongside disabled people to remove barriers, provide practical support and help people have choice and control over their lives.

We’re now looking for an experienced and values-led Chief Officer to lead us into our next phase.

This is an important time for us.

We have a strong local identity, committed staff and volunteers, established services and a wealth of experience across the organisation. We’re looking for someone who can build on that strong foundation while bringing clear strategic direction, financial focus and momentum for the future.

What makes this opportunity interesting?

You’ll work closely with our Trustee Board and Senior Leadership Team to shape and deliver our next three-year strategy. You’ll have the opportunity to influence the future direction of the organisation while protecting the things that make us distinctive.

You’ll help us:

  • Strengthen our financial resilience and develop sustainable, diverse income.
  • Build trust, confidence and cohesion across our staff and volunteer teams.
  • Protect the quality and sustainability of our services.
  • Make clear, informed decisions about our priorities and resources.
  • Develop relationships and partnerships that increase our reach and impact.
  • Raise our profile and influence across Brighton & Hove, Sussex and beyond.
  • Ensure the experiences and expertise of disabled people remain at the heart of our decisions.

About you

You’ll be an experienced senior leader who can combine strategic thinking with visible, collaborative leadership. You’ll understand the financial and organisational realities of running a charity and have experience of developing income, managing resources and leading through change.

You’ll be confident making difficult decisions, challenging constructively and bringing people with you. You’ll also be an engaging external representative who can build relationships, open doors and communicate a compelling story about our work and impact.

Most importantly, you’ll understand the importance of lived experience and what it means to lead a user-led organisation. You’ll listen before acting, value the expertise of disabled people and share our commitment to disability rights and inclusion.

Why Possability People?

This is an opportunity to lead an established local charity at an important point in its development.

There is already a lot to build on: committed people, established services, strong local relationships and more than 40 years of experience. We’re looking for someone who can recognise and protect those strengths while bringing fresh thinking, strategic focus and energy to what comes next.

Salary: £55,000
Hours: 35 hours per week, full-time
Location: Brighton & Hove, with opportunities for flexible and home working and an expectation of approximately 50% office-based working

Applications close at 9am on Monday 26 October 2026.
