Job description

Are you passionate about peer support, lived experience, and approaches that recognise people's strengths rather than defining them by a diagnosis? Do you believe that those that hear voices or have unusual sensory experiences should have a safe, non-judgemental and supportive environment?

South East London Mind is launching a new Hearing Voices Group in Southwark, offering a welcoming, peer-led space where people can share experiences, connect with others and develop their own understanding of voices and unusual experiences. The group will be delivered in line with the Hearing Voices Network Charter, creating an environment that is validating, trauma-informed and non-pathologising.

We are looking for a Hearing Voices Programme Lead and Facilitator to coordinate and deliver this exciting new programme. You will facilitate a weekly group, creating a safe and validating environment where people can explore their experiences on their own terms, supporting participants to develop their own wellbeing strategies, confidence and goals.

The role will lead the programme including building routes into the service through promotion, outreach and community engagement, and developing strong relationships with Community Mental Health Teams and local partners. You will manage referrals and monitoring and manage sessional co-facilitators with lived experience of hearing voices.

This is a unique opportunity to combine facilitation, community engagement, service development and leadership in a role that centres lived experience and peer support.

We welcome applications from people with a range of backgrounds and experiences.
Key qualities include:

  • Group Facilitation: Experience facilitating groups using peer-led, co-produced or community-based approaches.
  • Relationship Building: Confidence in developing partnerships with mental health services, community organisations and local stakeholders.
  • Organisation and Leadership: Able to mobilise and coordinate a small programme with strong planning, administrative and record-keeping skills
  • Empowerment and Inclusion: A commitment to helping people define their own goals and make sense of their experiences in ways that are meaningful to them.
  • Professional Boundaries and Safeguarding: The ability to balance trust, autonomy and safety, responding appropriately when concerns arise.

We are particularly interested in applications from people with lived experience of mental health challenges.

Successful applicants will be expected to undergo an Enhanced Level Disclosure and Barring Service check.

Closing date: Sunday 2nd August (11:59pm)

We encourage early applications as we reserve the right to close the vacancy early if we receive a high number of applications.
