ABOUT THE ROLE

This is an exciting opportunity for a skilled writer and communicator to tell the stories of SAT-7 and the people of the MENA in fresh and powerful ways. You’ll be working in a fast-paced, creative environment as part of the Communications & Marketing Team, delivering high quality content across a range of platforms. You’d be writing engaging podcast and video scripts, powerful viewer testimonies, inspiring articles for our website or print magazine and attention-grabbing email copy. You’ll be one of the main points of contact with our international office and Middle Eastern TV studios, gathering and repurposing impactful stories and resourcing the wider UK team.

All of this would support our 5-year strategic outcomes:

1. To see an increased and actively engaged support base giving regularly to sustain the work of SAT-7, so that SAT-7 UK is raising a sustainable £4M with over 3,500 donors.

2. Supporters and funders have a deepened understanding of the challenges faced by Christians and the people of the MENA region, and impact of SAT-7, to create opportunities to pray, engage and partner for change.

 

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Write engaging content for a range of platforms, including print and digital, such as articles, scripts and email copy
• Prepare episode templates, invite and research guests for the ‘Around the Table’ podcast with captivating and informative topics through highlighting regional issues and Christian context
• Assist the Senior Editor in writing copy and copy editing for prayer resources, such as monthly 7 Ways to Pray and seasonal campaigns at Lent and Advent, that will encourage prayer engagement, raise awareness of SAT-7’s work and expand SAT-7’s support base
• Show how God is at work in the MENA, and mobilise increased prayer for the issues affecting different people groups and MENA Christians
• Inform supporters and the wider public about the context, news, challenges and opportunities for the MENA region and Church
• Assist the Senior Editor in the production of copy for Insight magazine, writing effective and inspiring copy to demonstrate the impact of SAT-7 and inspire supporters to take action
• Repurpose written content from SAT-7’s international office for use across a range of platforms, and adapt and upload articles to the SAT-7 UK website
• Gather news and contextual information to generate content for flagship supporter publications, and support other teams as required (e.g. for events, campaigns, appeals, church presentations, prayer updates and reports)

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

• Ensure consistent messaging, branding and tone of voice and that content conforms to SAT-7 security, communication and style guides for a range of different audiences
• Communicate sensitively and positively about the MENA region and the work of SAT-7
• Assist the Communications & Marketing Manager and other colleagues as required
• Operate at all times within relevant statutory requirements and guidelines, following best practice recommendations wherever possible, and especially ensure compliance with the Fundraising Regulator Code and GDPR legislation

We are a large-scale, unique and dynamic hospitality and charity project in the Northwest Highlands with strong philanthropic and community commitments. The heart of our operation is on a remote and beautiful 800-acre island and with new exciting developments on the mainland of the Scottish Highlands including a farm and a hotel.   

As our new gardens and food production areas expand both on island and on mainland, with new glasshouses, the recovery of historical agricultural grounds being added to our existing orchards, kitchen gardens and greenhouses, our Head of Gardens and Growing is looking to grow the gardens team.

We are looking for a gardener to join the team and help in producing food for our staff and guests in our tough but bountiful environment at 58°N, while maintaining an impeccable aesthetic centred round heritage, sympathetic materials and craft.

Our land management approach balances production, nature, and heritage, with an emphasis on using the land to build communities. We aim to deliver a year-round supply of fresh and preserved produce, while also fostering soil health and a mosaic of ecosystems blurring the boundaries of productive gardens and wild spaces. This is a core role in the garden team and will involve working closely with the kitchen, land and guest teams, charitable beneficiaries and volunteers, and of course many hours wrestling with our challenging climate and peaty soil.

GROWTH

We are looking for a professional horticulturist: a confident organic gardener, ideally with an interest in agroecological, no-till and regenerative growing principles and potentially in horticultural therapy.  As well as being accomplished in gardening especially vegetable production growing, a strong part of the role will be facilitating guests, school groups and volunteers. There will be many opportunities for training and professional development. The salary for this role will be £29-37k per annum, depending on experience.

About the Role

As a Fundraising Group Moderator, you’ll manage Facebook groups of up to 10,000 challenge participants, providing exceptional supporter care and helping participants raise five‑ and six‑figure sums for some of the biggest names in the charity sector.

This role is ideal for experienced fundraisers looking for flexible freelance work or an additional income stream. You’ll work remotely, using your own laptop and WiFi, and bring your personality, empathy and initiative to every interaction.

You must be able to begin moderation at 9am (or earlier), wrap up by 9pm, and maintain our sub‑three‑hour response time.

Key Responsibilities

• Represent the charity’s voice, uphold brand guidelines and act as the charity representative 

• Maintain a safe, positive and inclusive group environment

• Identify, report, escalate and signpost all safeguarding concerns

• Provide warm, friendly and informal supporter care, bringing your own personality to create an exceptional participant experience

• Motivate, encourage and support participants throughout their challenge

• Maximise registration conversions and fundraiser activation

• Work independently, manage your own time effectively, use strong initiative and correct any errors promptly

• Follow clear processes and maintain high standards of accuracy

• Identify, solve and diffuse issues within the groups

• Engage with participants using a warm, friendly and informal tone

• Respond to posts, comments, questions and inbox messages in a timely manner (within three hours)

• Use your personal Facebook profile to moderate groups and build genuine relationships

• Post engaging daily content provided by Social AF

• Manage registrations using GivePanel or similar platforms

Workload & Peak Periods

Our challenge calendar has natural peaks, and moderators must be prepared for increased activity during September-November and January-March. These months see higher participant numbers and more concurrent events, meaning more posts, questions and supporter interactions. In addition to these seasonal surges, the first and last day of every month are consistently the busiest, as participants start and complete their challenge.

We maintain a flexible, supportive team culture, and to keep this fairness and flexibility in place, moderators must be willing to work occasional bank holidays and be available on the first or last day of each month, when group activity is at its highest.

Working Pattern

Moderation takes place between 9am and 9pm, Monday to Sunday.

Rather than working in one continuous block, you’ll complete your hours in short check-ins across the day to maintain coverage and meet response time targets.

Each account is allocated a set number of ‘active moderation hours’ per day (e.g. 2-3 hours), which are spread across multiple sessions. For example, 3 hours may be split into 5-6 check-ins throughout the day.

You must be able to:

• Start moderation from 9am (or earlier)

• Monitor activity throughout the day

• Complete a final check before 9pm and be present to sign off at 9pm

• Adhere to our sub-3-hour response time

Essential Criteria

• Minimum 3 years’ professional fundraising experience

• Excellent written communication

• Strong attention to detail

• Ability to work independently and manage your own time

• Confident problem‑solver with the ability to multitask

• Warm, personable communication style

• Receptive to feedback and committed to keeping high standards

• Confident using Facebook day‑to‑day, including basic functions such as posting, commenting, navigating groups and using your personal profile

• Events or individual giving experience

• An understanding of the Facebook Challenge Model or experience of running/supporting Facebook Challenges

• Experience using GivePanel

• Experience managing Facebook Groups

Training & Expectations

• Attend compulsory training and monthly team meetings

• Join moderation briefings

• Stay up to date with new processes and training

• Be present and responsive on Slack during working hours

Shannon Trust are delighted to be working with His Majesty’s Prison & Probation Service (HMPPS) to provide peer-led learning programmes at HMP Bure. Working closely with the prison and their staff, people in prison, Shannon Trust volunteers and mentors, this post will lead the delivery and development of our prison-based reading and numeracy programme, maximising opportunities for people in prison to learn to read.  

Ideally you will have some experience of prison settings underpinned by the ability to build relationships and personal qualities that include resilience, determination and a problem-solving approach. 

This role is a fixed term role until 31st July 2027 with the opportunity to be made permanent subject to contract renewal.

The role will be prison-based.
