Mind in Salford is an independent, user focused charity providing vital services to make a positive difference to the wellbeing and mental health of local people. We represent the voice of Salford in campaigning to dispel stigma and influence political, social and cultural change around mental health.

This role offers the opportunity to make a direct and practical difference to people in Salford who are experiencing financial difficulty, welfare rights challenges and mental health needs.

The Welfare Rights & Debt Adviser will:

• Deliver high-quality welfare rights advice, debt advice, budgeting support, grant applications and financial capability support to people experiencing mental health difficulties.
• Manage a caseload of clients on a one-to-one basis, ensuring advice is accurate, holistic, person-centred and responsive to individual needs.
• Contribute insight from frontline advice work to service development, partnership working and Mind’s wider campaigning activity.

Main Duties & Responsibilities

• Client advice and casework: provide welfare rights advice, debt advice, grant applications, information and support through appointments, telephone support, drop-ins and community-based settings.
• Quality and compliance: maintain accurate case records, work within agreed case-working standards, meet monitoring requirements and keep knowledge of welfare rights policy, systems and legislation up to date.
• Partnership and team working: work collaboratively with colleagues and external professionals to provide joined-up support for clients across different service settings.
• Service development: contribute to service planning, improvement activity and wider organisational learning based on client needs and service evidence.

The successful candidate will have at least one years’ experience delivering both welfare rights advice and debt advice in a relevant setting and be able to understand the wishes and needs of people using mental health services and advocate appropriately on their behalf. They will be able to engage effectively with vulnerable adults and build positive working relationships with professionals across disciplines, have good negotiation, problem-solving and organisational skills. This role will need the ability to prioritise and manage a caseload while meeting agreed case-working standards, targets and service goals, someone who can maintain accurate and comprehensive records on a client management database and someone with a commitment to equal opportunities, diversity, service user empowerment and reliable team working.
