The role

Key responsibilities 

Organisational Leadership and line management 

• Deputise for the Director when necessary 

• Provide leadership and positive role modelling to the First Give team 

• Support organisation-wide improvements and innovation, including strategic planning and organisational structure 

• Develop connections and networks that increase the profile and opportunities for the charity 

• Work with the Director and Head of Programmes to create opportunities for young people to influence and engage with our work and impact 

• Line management of our Administrator 

Fundraising 

• Work with the Director and consultants to own and implement a robust fundraising strategy to support the organisation as it executes its new strategic plan 

• Develop processes for managing fundraising applications and stewardship of existing funders and supporters 

• Write and submit high quality, inspiring and tailored funding applications and reports for trusts and foundations (expected to be in the region of £10,000-150,000) 

• Identify and develop potential new funding opportunities for First Give, including major donors and corporate funders 

• Manage relationships with a set number of key funders, ensuring that we proactively seek feedback, engagement and involvement in our work 

New School Partner Recruitment 

• Oversee and co-ordinate all new school partner recruitment sales and marketing activity 

• Work with our marketing agency to develop and implement marketing campaigns 

• Support the Programmes Team to recruit new partner schools in priority regions 

• Proactively seek opportunities for growth of the First Give partners network 

• Develop and design and production of marketing and sales resources to support all sales activity 

• You may also be required to deliver sales meetings with networks including Headteacher meetings and attend conferences to promote the work of the charity 

Communications 

• Lead the development and manage the delivery of our communications strategy, including all messaging to key stakeholders via a range of appropriate channels, including newsletters, social media and our website 

• Be responsible for the First Give website, ensuring it is up to date, relevant and meets the needs of the organisation 

• Brand champion, ensuring that all external communications and resources are aligned with our brand identity and tone of voice

About the team

Our Finance Department works as a team of experts to safeguard resources and support decision making across Shelter. We strive to ensure Shelter is financially sustainable in order to achieve our vision of a home for everyone. This particular role sits within the Financial Planning and Analysis team. We support the charity through financial reporting, analysis, and expert advice, and enable collaboration to support managers in making effective business decisions.

About the role

Joining a finance team that collaborates and communicates effectively to help us deliver our mission and vision, making vital business decisions that are driven by expert knowledge and financial acumen will be key to your success here. As part of the role, you’ll engage regularly with our Assistant Directors and their leadership teams to ensure that financial results and key messages are shared and you’ll support stakeholders in engaging with fully available financial insight and reporting.  When it comes to our stakeholders, you’ll support and lead finance education and training to equip them with the skills required to execute their own financial responsibilities.

Among your many challenges will be the need to align financial plans to operational and strategic plans and make sure they’re clearly understood by Business Units. Seeing that each Unit is provided with a channel of effective, two-way communication with Finance will be important too. You’ll also work with colleagues in Project Governance and HR Business Partnering to support Directorate planning and business cases, as well as supporting and leading on the delivery of cross-team projects.

About you

As well as being suitably qualified (or in the final stages of qualification), you’ll need to be used to working effectively with non-finance stakeholders and varying your communication style to suit the audience you’re addressing. You’ll also need excellent organisational and time management skills, including the ability to work to deadlines and reprioritise tasks when necessary.

Excellent analytical skills, impeccable attention to detail, a high level of numeracy and intermediate Excel skills are all ‘must haves’ too, as is proficiency in the main Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook and Word. Additionally, it would be an advantage if you have experience working in a Charity and have associated experience of managing restricted funds and fundraising.

Strategy & Development

We are looking for an experienced leader to develop and inspire our Therapeutic Wellbeing services department to deliver on our mission to help people have safe, healthy and happy relationships.

The role
A pivotal role, leading a newly formed team, you will lead and develop a range of Therapeutic and wellbeing services, delivered to support individual adults and children, couples and families. You will be accountable for the operational management of the department, but you will retain a strategic and tactical focus by providing effective delegation, challenge and support to your Senior Management Team.

Programme Manager – National Clinical Audit of Psychosis

This is a great opportunity to manage an exciting audit programme using new methodologies to support Early Intervention in Psychosis services. 

Within the College Centre for Quality Improvement, we run an exciting programme of NHS-funded national clinical audits, including the National Clinical Audit of Psychosis, which provides important data that is driving forward improvements in care for people with first episode psychosis. We are seeking a dynamic and proactive person for the Programme Manager (maternity cover) post. 

The successful candidate will have experience in project management and quality improvement in healthcare and/or clinical audit and will have a keen interest in data analytics. They will show attention to detail and have excellent organisational, report writing and communication skills. Responsibilities will include managing a complex programme of work, liaising with funders and expert advisors, supervising the project team, developing and delivering of project plans, and managing all aspects of the project, e.g. developing data collection tools and collecting and analysing data. 

The successful candidate will be required to undertake a DBS check.

About the role

The Centre for Ageing Better launched the first ever campaign focusing on ageism in January 2024.

Ageism is the most widespread form of discrimination in the UK. And it will impact us all at some point, particularly as we get older. Ageism affects how society sees older people: they’re often reduced to offensive stereotypes, patronised, or treated as a burden. And it even affects how we see ourselves. As the years progress, we start to believe what we read, see and hear, and come to think that we’re ‘past it’.

The Head of Ageism Campaign plays a key role in a small team responsible for planning and delivering a nationwide public-facing campaign to bring an end to ageism in England. The public-facing campaign is one strand of a wider ‘age-friendly’ social movement aimed to make people think, feel and act differently about ageing, which will work on a number of levels and with a range of different audiences.

Under the direction of the Director of Communications & Policy and with an expert external consultant, this role is responsible for planning, delivering, measuring and iterating campaign activities that lead to measurable changes in attitudes and behaviour amongst the public.

The campaign will position Ageing Better as a thought leader and expert on ageism in England and mobilise the public and stakeholders around key activity and campaign moments, working at a national, regional and local level.

The postholder will jointly manage a creative agency to deliver phase two of our mass marketing campaign, ‘always on’ activity, and a moment of collective action once a year for warm audiences and ambassadors for the campaign.

About you

You are a passionate and committed campaigner, determined to create societal change.

You will have excellent experience in campaigning techniques and communications, with first-class writing skills. You will understand how to influence the public and move people along a behaviour/attitude change journey.

You will be comfortable working across the full marcomms mix and using different channels and platforms to reach audiences.

You will have great project management skills and will love keeping a project on track.

ABOUT START NETWORK

The Start Network is made up of close to 100 aid agencies working across six continents. Together, our aim is to transform humanitarian action through innovation, fast funding, early action, and locally driven humanitarian action. We're tackling what we believe are the biggest systemic problems that the sector faces. Problems including slow and reactive funding, centralised decision-making, and an aversion to change mean that people affected by crises around the world do not receive the best help fast enough, and needless suffering results. Our work focuses on responding to these problems. This includes shifting power closer to where crises happen, providing fast, early and predictable function and sharing learning and innovative ways of working.

The Start Network is at a critical point in its journey. We have grown and diversified our membership over the past 10 years. We are now set to evolve into a decentralised “network of networks” in line with our vision and principles. We are currently working with 10 national and regional networks (called hubs) made up of predominantly civil society organisations. They are developing locally owned ways of anticipating and responding to humanitarian crises. We aim to support the emergence and development of further hubs in the coming years. Our ultimate ambition is to devolve leadership, membership, programming, and decision making to the hubs, while the central team transitions to become a service provider.

JOB PURPOSE

This senior management role will enable strategic thinking and design, influence diverse stakeholders, adapt agile ways of working and drive change in line with the vision of the Network.

You will enable the development of country and regional civil society hubs, driving decentralised decision-making, devolving power, and enabling local hub leaders to meet their needs defined and owned by them. You will work with the hubs and their members to understand their support needs, then facilitate and coordinate that support working with peer hubs and relevant members of the Start Network team expertise.

The role requires a good understanding of and experience in the humanitarian and/or development sectors, and an ability to work with local civil society. Awareness of power and political dynamics and sensitivity to different contexts and cultures is crucial. It also requires high levels of self-awareness and emotional intelligence, using your position connect, enable and influence others. You will be skilled at building relationships and brokering partnerships with empathy, credibility and equity. Listening and valuing diverse perspectives to build an inclusive team will be key to success. Solid programme and budget management will be critical to enabling the hubs vision and activities.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Design, development planning

• With members and hubs, co-design, develop and enable the evolution of Start Network of Networks, including hubs.
• Coordinate and facilitate the delivery of support, expertise and services to hubs
• Work closely with the Membership and Assurance teams to support iNGO and member intake through hubs.
• Work closely with the Funds, Finance and Innovation teams to facilitate the co-design and development of programmatic initiatives, based on hub priorities.
• Work with hubs and the Start Network team to create a culture of evidence-based decision making, feedback and learning so that we can adapt support to emerging needs.
• Advise senior leadership on hub issues and strategy Partnership brokering and relationship management
• Foster and broker positive and enabling relationships and partnerships within hubs, between hubs and between hubs and Start Network Secretariat.
• Effectively manage complex issues which arise out of shifting power dynamics ensuring teams and stakeholders work towards a common vision; Resolve any conflicts and address issues that may arise within hubs, promoting constructive dialogue.
• Work with the Advocacy and External Affairs team to help raise hub voices and perspectives in local and global forums.
• Influence and advocate internally and externally for locally driven humanitarian action, creating and holding space to support the emergence of hubs based on their aspirations, priorities and needs.

Management and leadership

• Inspire, lead and motivate a high performing, diverse global team
• Management of direct reports, including recruiting, training and playing an active role in building an inclusive team culture in line with Start Network values
• Monitor individual and team performance and ensure objectives and outcomes are met or exceeded; address poor performance and recognise good performance

PROFILE AND SKILLS

• At least 7-10 years’ experience in a management/senior management role in the humanitarian, development or social enterprise sectors
• Demonstrated ability to think and operate at both strategic and operational levels
• Demonstrated experience in inclusive leadership
• Demonstrated experience in relationship management, partnership brokering and influencing across a diversity of geographies, skillsets and personalities.
• Demonstrated experience in managing programmes and budgets
• Demonstrated experience in inspiring, motivating and managing a diverse and high-performing team
• Demonstrated problem solving skills, an entrepreneurial spirit, an ability to manage complexity and ambiguity
• Demonstrated curiosity and growth mindset, including experience in testing, learning, and iterating.
• Knowledge of and political sensitivity to the broader political context and power dynamics within the humanitarian sector operates.
• Ability to work flexibly across different time zones.
• Excellent verbal communication skills in English, working knowledge of French, Spanish or another hub language desirable.

 Business Manager - P/T– 26 hours per week

Dyscover is a small, specialist charity providing long term support and opportunities to adults with aphasia, a complex language disability. We are looking for an experienced Business Manager with a strong Fundraising and Marketing background to join our team.

· Experience raising income from a range of income streams particularly Trusts and Foundations also including skills in managing events, individual donors, legacy, corporate and community fundraising.

· Finance and Project management experience.

· Strategic development skills.

· Health, wellbeing, and disability experience within the sector would be ideal.

· Marketing experience; organisational promotion, digital, social media, website and branding. Health service marketing would be an advantage.

· Excellent interpersonal & communication skills with good disability awareness.

This is an essential management role within an expanding, unique and innovative organisation which strives towards being a centre of excellence for people with aphasia.

In this rewarding role, you will need to be a strong team player with a good line management style, flexible and confident in initiating decisions, engaging with stakeholders, and communicating effectively. As a Professional Regulations Manager, you will lead multidisciplinary teams who carry out investigations through to the final Fitness to Practise hearings as well as matrix management across the fitness to practise function.
