RESPONSIBILITIES:
Outreach, Wheelchair Skills and Wider Engagement
· Engage the widest possible range of people with spinal cord injury to sign up for further contact with Back Up, through organising and/or delivering wheelchair skills training sessions and talks for patients and families at the spinal cord injury centre in the region, general hospitals and with other key partners or locations as identified.
· Coordinate, support and manage volunteer trainers who are helping to deliver sessions and talking to patients and families.
· Lead, sustain and develop strong and effective working relationships with a wide range of health professionals and other charity representatives e.g. through presentations, calls and meetings, to ensure that people access seamless support.
Proactive Contact with People Affected by Spinal Cord Injury
· Maintain and support relationships with a large number of people affected by SCI (adults, children and young people and their parents) through regular proactive contact. This could be in person in the spinal cord injury centre, other settings or through events, telephone contact or other interactions.
· Explore their feelings, wishes and needs and provide tailored peer support to help them feel supported, access relevant services from Back Up and elsewhere through proactive referrals, and become more aware of the possibilities of life after SCI.
Networking, Partnerships and Sustainability
· Develop and maintain a map of touchpoints in the region, where people with an SCI will come into contact.
· Develop partnerships, referral routes and signposting processes to develop reach beyond the spinal cord injury centre.
· Develop and manage a network of community ambassador volunteers to support the wider work and sustainability of Back Up through fundraising and other related activities.
· Take a lead on encouraging localised fundraising activity; working towards wider income targets that support ongoing sustainability.

Role Purpose
The Freedom Project Co-ordinator plays a key role in supporting individuals experiencing homelessness, poverty, and social exclusion to move towards greater independence, stability, and personal progression.
Working directly with Freedom trainees, volunteers, and Mustard Tree clients, you will provide person-centred support through one-to-one casework, group activities, crisis intervention, and progression planning. You will help individuals identify and achieve their goals, overcome barriers, and access opportunities in employment, training, education, housing, and wider support services.
This role is central to delivering a welcoming, trauma-informed, and strengths-based service that reflects Mustard Tree’s values. Through building positive relationships, maintaining professional standards, and working collaboratively with colleagues and external partners, you will contribute to meaningful and sustainable outcomes for the people we support.

· Deliver a warm, compassionate, and non-judgemental welcome to all visitors, service users, volunteers, and Freedom trainees.
· Provide advice, guidance, and emergency support to individuals accessing Mustard Tree services, including those sleeping rough or at risk of homelessness.
· Manage referral appointments sensitively and professionally, ensuring people are treated with dignity throughout the process.
· Provide a minimum of one day per week supporting reception-based and drop-in activity for people presenting with immediate needs.

· Coordinate referrals and liaise with internal teams and external agencies to create clear pathways into the Freedom Project.
· Establish opportunities and routes into employment, education, training, volunteering, and other progression activities.
· Support trainees to overcome barriers by identifying practical solutions and accessing appropriate services.
· Adapt support plans and interventions based on changing circumstances and individual needs.
· Use initiative to identify areas for service improvement and contribute ideas to enhance outcomes.
Confident in Safeguarding and Incident Management
· Conduct risk assessments and maintain accurate client records and documentation.
· Identify, record, and escalate safeguarding concerns in line with Mustard Tree policies and procedures.
· Contribute to risk management through effective use of incident reporting systems and safeguarding processes.
· Maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries in all interactions.
· Support individuals experiencing crisis or distress in a safe, calm, and professional manner.
Skilled in Analysing Impact and Reporting
· Manage an active caseload, scheduling and delivering up to 20 one-to-one support sessions each week.
· Deliver a mixture of face-to-face and telephone support sessions based on client need. Change to ‘catch-up via phone call when people don’t attend’
· Complete outcome measures, support plans, case notes, and reports accurately and within agreed timescales.
· Produce case studies and impact evidence to demonstrate progression and programme outcomes.
· Monitor client journeys, progression plans, and successful move-on outcomes.
· Carry out administrative duties associated with the role and maintain accurate records on internal systems.
Positive Management of Stakeholders, Partners and Supporters
· Develop and maintain effective relationships with employers, Job Centres, training providers, housing services, charities, and statutory agencies.
· Coordinate training and educational opportunities for Freedom trainees across Mustard Tree services.
· Signpost and refer individuals to relevant specialist services, ensuring clear pathways of support.
· Act as a point of contact for colleagues seeking advice regarding Freedom trainees and help resolve issues where appropriate.
· Work collaboratively with internal teams to ensure coordinated and effective support delivery.

· Support Freedom trainees to develop skills, confidence, and positive behaviours that enable progression.
· Contribute to a culture of learning, accountability, and continuous improvement.
· Participate in supervision, training, and professional development opportunities.
· Engage with evidence-informed approaches, including Motivational Interviewing, reflective practice, and peer support.
· Share knowledge, learning, and best practice with colleagues and volunteers.
· Work collaboratively with team members to achieve service objectives and positive client outcomes.
General Work Duties
· Work within health and safety guidelines and Mustard Tree policies and procedures.
· Support other staff and departments and provide practical relief cover across workstreams where required.
· Take responsibility for professional development, attending training courses and learning opportunities as required.
· Lead by example, embodying Mustard Tree values and representing the charity professionally at all times.
· Contribute towards being an environmentally responsible organisation through recycling and supporting paper-lite working practices.
· Attend training, undertake research, and maintain awareness of relevant legislation and local services including housing, benefits, mental health, domestic abuse, and budgeting support.
· Undertake any other duties relevant to the role as reasonably required by the organisation.
