YEF Detached Youth Work Project Lead

For over 30 years, we've built those relationships through detached youth work - meeting young people where they choose to be, listening deeply and creating opportunities for belonging, belief and hope.
We're now looking for an experienced Detached Youth Work Project Lead to join our team and play a central role in one of the UK's most ambitious detached youth work research pilots.
M13 is leading the Greater Manchester consortium delivering the Youth Endowment Fund (YEF) Detached Youth Work Pilot. The Pilot aims to build a strong evidence base for researching detached youth work, combining outstanding frontline practice with rigorous evaluation to shape the future of youth work nationally.
Reporting to the Founding Director, you'll provide the day-to-day leadership of M13's delivery of the pilot. You'll lead a small team of detached youth workers, coordinate operational delivery across intervention neighbourhoods and ensure the project is delivered safely, consistently and in line with the YEF Shared Practice Model and research requirements.
This is first and foremost a practice leadership role. You'll spend much of your week out in parks, streets and neighbourhoods, building trusted relationships with young people through high-quality detached youth work. Alongside this, you'll supervise and support colleagues, oversee monitoring and reporting, build positive relationships with community members and partner organisations, and, together with the Founding Director, work closely with the Centre for Evidence and Implementation (CEI) and consortium partners to ensure the successful delivery of the project.
We're looking for someone who is an experienced detached youth worker, confident leading others and passionate about relational practice. You'll be organised, reflective and proactive, with experience of supervising staff, coordinating projects, maintaining high-quality records and working collaboratively with partners. Most importantly, you'll share our belief that relationships are the foundation for meaningful change.
This is a 35-hour per week, office- and community-based role. (M13's full-time week is 37.5 hours). Your week will include six detached youth work sessions (three afternoons and three evenings), alongside team leadership, partnership working, supervision, monitoring and project coordination. Some flexibility can be offered around when office-based work is undertaken, where operationally possible.

About the role

Offering day to day support to volunteers, providing learning, shadowing and mentoring and being a consistent role model for our values are also key aspects of the role.
About you
You are able to listen to, engage and work with individuals and communities, including people with lived experience of homelessness. You will have experience, knowledge of and/or proven ability in housing and homelessness advice and advocacy and are able to progress to specialist level knowledge, as well as the ability to carry out casework related interviews, maintain detailed case records, advise and support clients to make informed decisions.A proven record of delivering group workshops and presentations is essential, as is a collaborative, flexible and professional approach to your work.

About the role
Shelter Manchester are recruiting two Housing Rights Workers, as part of our @Home Service, to undertake preventative work with families at risk of homelessness, so that they can sustain a safe and secure home.
Your role will be to deliver high quality housing advice and advocacy in school settings to families at risk of becoming homeless and experiencing housing issues. You will plan and deliver holistic casework to families and support them to resolve their housing situation, as well as recording quantitative and qualitative data to evidence the impact of these interventions.
You will work within school and community settings to deliver rights awareness workshops to improve professional’s knowledge of local housing issues and raise awareness of housing rights
About you
You will have the ability to engage and work collaboratively with individuals, communities and a variety of stakeholders, including running group workshops and presentations. You have experience, knowledge of and/or proven ability in housing and homelessness advice and advocacy, with the ability to progress to specialist level knowledge. Essential to the role will be good time management, carrying out casework related interviews, maintaining detailed case records and offering advice and support to clients to inform their decisions.

This role is at the heart of supporting people through periods of mental health crisis, providing compassionate, person-centred support from referral and admission through to discharge. Through one-to-one and group support, you will use a range of non-clinical, trauma-informed and psychologically informed approaches, including emotional support, active listening, problem-solving, safety planning, recovery planning and practical assistance. As a Recovery Worker, you will exercise professional judgement to respond to residents' changing needs, providing calm and effective support during periods of heightened distress while maintaining a strong focus on safety and recovery. You will support people experiencing a range of complex challenges, including severe mental health difficulties, self-harm, suicidal thoughts, psychotic experiences and substance misuse, using de-escalation and other appropriate non-clinical interventions.
