Request for Proposals: Fundraising Strategy and Bid Template Development

Parish of St Mary’s and St James, NW6 London

1. Introduction

The Parish of St Mary’s and St James, located in NW6, London, is seeking to appoint an experienced fundraising professional to develop a comprehensive fundraising strategy and bid-writing template to support essential large scale capital repair projects at both church buildings.

The appointed consultant will produce a clear, actionable, and sustainable fundraising plan that draws on multiple funding streams — including grants, partnerships, individual giving, digital fundraising, and community events — while ensuring both projects progress cohesively and without internal competition for resources.

2. Project Background

The parish comprises two Grade II listed churches, both of which are active places of worship and important community landmarks within West Hampstead and South Hampstead.

St Mary’s Church

St Mary’s is a Grade II listed building, constructed in 1856-1862, and currently listed on the Historic England “At Risk” Register. The church requires urgent repair works to its spire, estimated at £1.5 million, alongside further essential maintenance identified in the quinquennial inspection. As a historic and much-loved building, St Mary’s preservation is a key priority for the parish and local community.

St James Church

Built in 1887–8 and designed by A.W. Blomfield, St James Church is also Grade II listed. The large red-brick structure, with steeply pitched tiled roofs and Bath stone dressings, is a notable local landmark and the only listed building within the South Hampstead Conservation Area. Camden Council’s Conservation Area Appraisal describes it as “a very important part of the quality and character of the area.”

St James is recognised nationally as a model of how historic churches can be adapted for sustainable use. Reopened in 2014 as The Sherriff Centre, it combines traditional worship with a thriving community and social enterprise hub — including a Post Office, soft play centre, café, retail space, and event venue.

St James now faces essential capital repairs to its roof, guttering, and masonry, as identified by its quinquennial inspection.

Fundraising Objective

Although St Mary’s and St James are distinct buildings, the parish seeks a single, unified fundraising strategy that will enable both capital projects to move forward in tandem, sharing messaging and timelines to avoid competition for funding opportunities.

3. Scope of Work

The consultant will produce a detailed and actionable fundraising strategy and a skeleton bid-writing template to support the parish in delivering its capital repair objectives.

A. Fundraising Strategy

The strategy should cover five core fundraising areas, each with specific recommendations, timelines, and success measures:

1. Grant Applications to Trusts and Foundations
   • Identification of suitable capital funders, including National Lottery Heritage programmes and major charitable trusts.
2. Corporate Partnerships
   • Identification of potential local business partners with corporate social responsibility programmes.
3. Individual Giving
   • Recommendations for regular giving schemes, major donor cultivation, and legacy giving programmes.
4. Digital Fundraising
   • Plans for social media campaigns, crowdfunding, and email marketing.
   • Recommendations for digital platforms, messaging, and performance tracking.
5. Community Fundraising Events
   • Framework for community-focused events to engage local audiences and raise funds.

B. Skeleton Bid Template

An editable bid-writing template will be created to assist the parish with future applications. This will include:

• Core content sections (e.g., project summary, need, impact, budget, sustainability).
• Example text and guidance notes.
• Style and structure recommendations for clarity and professionalism.

4. Deliverables

• Comprehensive Fundraising Strategy Document covering both churches.
• Action Plan with timelines and priority recommendations.
• Skeleton Bid Template

5. Experience and Expertise

The appointed consultant should demonstrate:

• Proven success in fundraising for capital projects involving heritage buildings, ideally churches or places of worship.
• Experience in heritage and conservation funding, including the National Lottery Heritage Fund.
• Demonstrable ability to develop multi-strand fundraising strategies integrating grants, individuals, corporate, and community income.
• Excellent bid writing and stakeholder engagement skills.

Reporting directly to the CEO, you will lead and develop our fundraising team, shaping a cross-stream strategy and an integrated communications plan. You’ll be responsible for setting the strategic direction for fundraising, communications and events across the organisation. By doing so you will raise JET’s national profile, grow our supporter base and significantly increase income to support programme expansion. 

You’ll bring strong experience across multiple fundraising streams, with a proven track record of securing significant multi-year funding and building lasting relationships with funders—both individuals and organisations. Alongside leading our fundraising efforts, you’ll take ownership of our brand, ensuring clarity and consistency in our messaging, helping partners tell our story, and securing positive media coverage. 

You’ll lead the development of campaigns, fundraising and marketing activities, and digital engagement that not only enhance our national profile but also drive supporter engagement and income growth.

This is a home-based role, with travel required to and within the regions where we operate, including attendance at key events.

About the Role 

We are seeking a capable, motivated Operations Manager to lead on the effective running of our charity’s systems and operations. This role is pivotal in ensuring our work remains efficient, financially sustainable, and aligned with our strategic goals. 

Working closely with the Chief Executive Officer and Leadership Team, you will oversee the smooth functioning of our internal systems—including finance, CRM, IT, and communications—while supporting fundraising processes and continuous improvement across the organisation.

Key Responsibilities 

1. Leading Our Operations: Accountable for the smooth operational running of our Operational, HR and Financial Systems, including Salesforce, and identifying operational risks that could affect the charity’s mission. Your proactive approach will help us stay on track and keep making a difference.

2. Supporting Our Fundraising: Work closely with other members of the Leadership Team to identify fundraising opportunities, support with bid writing, and take responsibility for individual giving, managing our fundraising CRM, Donorfy. 

3. Supporting Change: Accountable for managing transitional change programmes across the organisation in respect to operational processes and procedures. Help our team adapt to new processes and procedures by providing guidance, training, and resources.

4. Financial Oversight: Understand the revenues and expenses of the charity in order to promote operational efficiency while managing cashflow risks. Whilst this role doesn’t require advanced experience in accounting or bookkeeping, the holder will take responsibility for day-to-day finance processes, including invoicing, account reconciliation on our account software Xero, and monthly financial reporting, as well as working alongside our external accountant. 

5. Communications and IT Fluency: Oversee systems supporting communications and marketing, including our social media platforms and website, ensuring effective collaboration with our external partners.

About Strength & Stem

Strength & Stem is a charity and social enterprise that uses floristry to empower female modern slavery survivors. We want to see female survivors of modern slavery and human trafficking restored from their trauma, empowered for the future, and able to sustain a good quality of life. We achieve our vision by offering an evidence-based, holistic programme. It incorporates tailored skills training (including vocational floristry, prevocational and wellbeing skills training), work experience, mentorship, and a supportive community. Role summary

The Programme Coordinator plays a key operational role at the heart of Strength & Stem, ensuring the smooth delivery of our programmes and events. This includes coordinating a series of 12 weekly floristry and skills workshops, supporting the mentoring scheme, and organising independent events such as our annual graduation celebration, alumni gatherings and ad-hoc floristry workshops.

The role combines logistics, participant engagement, monitoring and evaluation, and communications across all areas of delivery. It is varied and dynamic — balancing hands-on support during programme delivery with significant behind-the-scenes coordination, administration and reporting.

As the Fundraising Manager for Behind Closed Doors, you will play a key role in developing and delivering a fundraising strategy aligned with the organisation’s vision, mission and values. ABOUT THE ROLE

The Head of Communications and Networks will amplify The Politics Project’s voice, build strategic partnerships and strengthen collaboration across the youth, education and democracy sectors. You will lead on communications, stakeholder engagement and the continued development of the Democracy Classroom Network.

You will oversee a team responsible for communications, partnerships and events, providing leadership and guidance to ensure clear messaging, impactful storytelling and strong, coordinated engagement across the sector. The post holder will combine strategic thinking with strong operational delivery, managing both the external profile of the organisation and the networks that underpin its reach and influence.

Key responsibilities include:

Communications

• Develop and lead The Politics Project’s communications strategy to raise visibility and strengthen reputation.
• Ensure clear, consistent messaging across all channels, including website, social media, newsletters and press.
• Lead media relations, drafting press releases, handling journalist enquiries and identifying media opportunities.
• Monitor and evaluate communications activity to measure reach, engagement and influence.

Partnerships and networks

• Work with the Partnerships Manager and Director to cultivate and manage relationships with key stakeholders across civil society, government, education and youth sectors.
• Oversee the day-to-day running of the Democracy Classroom Network, including partner communications, newsletters and database management.

• Act as The Politics Project’s representative and ambassador at external meetings, conferences and events.

Leadership and management

• Lead and mentor the communications and networks team, including line management of the Partnerships Manager, Communications Lead and Programme Coordinator.
• Manage relationships with freelance designers, illustrators and developers.
• Oversee evaluation and monitoring of communications and network activities, producing reports as required.
• Manage budgets and allocate resources effectively for communications, campaigns and events.
• Contribute to the organisation’s strategic planning and cross-programme collaboration.
• Carry out other duties as required in support of the organisation.

This is a fast-paced senior management role in a small but growing organisation. The post includes a six-month probation period and is fixed-term until March 2027, with the potential of extension depending on funding. Occasional travel within the UK and some evening or weekend work will be required.

About the role

Our client is looking for a new Commercial Director to join them! 

They are looking for someone who can take overall responsibility for commercial management, developing and implementing revenue growth strategies and generally improving the market presence and profitability of their subsidiary company

The post-holder will be an executive director of the company and a full member of its Board of Directors.

Tender is an arts charity working with children and young people to prevent domestic abuse and sexual violence through creative projects. Our programmes are safe, enjoyable, age-appropriate spaces where young people can engage with sensitive topics and “rehearse” for real-life scenarios. Participants are encouraged to be both consumers and producers of learning through script-work, role-play and creative media such as films and art. Throughout, we enable young people to explore their choices, rights and expectations in relationships and to recognise the early warning signs of abuse. 

Tender has grown significantly in recent years. We have secured income from an increasing range of sources: corporates, major donors, trusts & foundations and statutory funders. We have done this with a small but highly effective development team.

With a clear strategic focus for the next five years, we are strengthening our development team to ensure we have the funding needed to achieve our strategic ambitions. We plan to grow both the extent of our reach across the country, and the difference we make to the people we work with. You will play a pivotal role in raising the funding for our ambitions, focusing on statutory and trusts & foundations income streams. You will lead on both these income streams, managing existing funders and securing new funders. You will secure income from your own portfolio of funders and partners, and lead and inspire the team to achieve their own ambitious targets, both through new sources and through excellent stewardship of existing funders.

Role purpose

The main purposes of this role are:

• Researching, identifying and applying for grant funding and commissioning from statutory sources, trusts and foundations (T&F)
• Developing and writing high quality fundraising bids which align with the objectives and needs of statutory funders, T&F and Tender’s strategic objectives
• Managing and maintaining partnerships and relationships with a range of stakeholders (statutory funders, T&F, delivery partners, professionals in the sector, internal stakeholders)
• Developing the Statutory and T&F strategy in collaboration with the Development Director

Main responsibilities and duties

New business development

• Developing and implementing a strategy to develop relationships with, and maximise income from, statutory sources, T&F
• Working with service managers, designing, developing and submitting high-quality funding proposals to statutory sources, T&F which are technically sound, meet donor requirements and align with Tender’s strategic objectives
• Maintaining an up-to-date market awareness of grant-making trends and best practice in T&F fundraising
• Developing the overall statutory and T & F strategy with oversight from the Development Director
• Monitoring and reporting against business development plans to ensure objectives are achieved, and proposing plans for remedial action if projections are not on track

Relationships

• Managing relationships with Statutory sources and T&F funding Tender, building a deep understanding of the needs and requirements of each funder
• Developing and executing stewardship and relationship management plans for T&F to maximise the value and duration of their support for Tender
• Overseeing the production of high-quality monitoring reports for T&F, and using insights from funded programmes to develop case for support materials
• Working with other Tender managers to ensure the consistent tone and positioning of Tender in the implementation of marketing of all projects
• Line managing two Development Officers

Administration

• Working with the Governance team to improve operational effectiveness and quality service by identifying and implementing process improvements
• Contributing to the maintenance of Tender’s overall Development function, providing appropriate analysis and reports
• Developing and maintaining a funding database and ensuring it is up to date to effectively monitor and evaluate the strategy

Clinical Services Coordinator (Mental Health Talking Therapies) - Maternity Cover Contract

Evolve Counselling is looking for an efficient, qualified and experienced mental health counselling manager, to take charge of our service while the postholder takes maternity leave in January 2026. This is an exciting and rewarding opportunity with a supportive employer, who offers a flexible approach to working time, benefits and options for the future. 

The post is: 

• Fully remote, part-time hours between 16-21 hours per week.

• Highly flexible arrangement of core working hours across 4/5 days each week. 

• Salary will be £32,000 pro rata/ full time equivalent.

Evolve provides a wide range of therapies to people experiencing mental health difficulties. We work with private individuals and organisational/ corporate clients (via employee wellbeing programmes) mainly through remote video calls but with a good deal of face-to-face work. We have over 45 BACP registered counsellors on our team and our mission is to deliver the lowest cost counselling to those who need it most. As a charity, our surpluses are reinvested to deliver this mission. 

Our ideal candidate for this temporary cover is a BACP registered member counsellor, with strong managerial and administrative skills and experience, confident at handling the working needs of a large remote team and delivering a detailed and personal service to our larger contract clients as well as private individuals. You’ll be working alongside an ambitious management team, aiming to perfect and grow our services. Good record keeping, communications skills and familiarity with confidential client record management systems are a must. 

The key aspects of the CSC job are to: 

• Be the first port of call for all clinical queries. 

• Arrange the efficient use of our CRM system that supports the clinical service. 

• Take overall responsibility for incoming referrals and allocations as well as ongoing management of clients and maintenance of any waiting lists to agreed parameters. 

• Monitor the balance between counsellor capacity and client demand. 

• Provide practical support and signposting to the counselling members, enabling their work.
