In this job, you will play a vital role in driving up awareness of the Mental Health Charter with businesses, organisations, and service providers across the borough of Barnet.
To begin with, you’ll use your organisational and project management skills to work with the steering group to create an action plan. With their support, you’ll use your operational communications experience to work with all partners to develop and create presentations and other promotional materials, such as flyers and posters. You will also take photos at engagement activities for partners to promote the project on their respective social media platforms.
Then, using your excellent interpersonal skills you will build on existing relationships with key stakeholders and create new ones. Travelling around the borough of Barnet you will proactively approach, encourage and support a diverse audience of businesses, organisations, and service providers to make pledges to the charter and later follow up on their progress.
On a day to day basis, you will record activities against key performance indicators, accurately record and analyse feedback using surveys and data management tools.
Additionally, you will organise and attend monthly Steering Group meetings following key project management principles to report on the overall progress of the project against targets.

About the role

We seek to create positive change by influencing government policy, uncovering greenwash and raising awareness among key constituencies about the impacts of global supply chains on the world’s forests and forest communities.
Most global deforestation is driven by industrial production of a handful of major commodities, including beef, soy, palm oil and wood. A large chunk of this production is to meet demand in Western consumer markets. Over the past few years, Earthsight has played a key role in highlighting the complicity of corporations and consumers in the EU, UK and US in the destruction of forests overseas, as well as the abuses of local people which accompany that destruction. As part of a global coalition, we have succeeded in getting laws passed or under development in all those jurisdictions which aim to clean up these supply chains. Now we need to ensure those laws are effectively enforced.
This role will be key to that. As part of a small team, you will help design and coordinate implementation of our policy strategy and outputs. You will represent the organisation in meetings with policymakers, government authorities and civil society, as well as help draft and disseminate policy briefings and other advocacy material. You will also oversee our comms work.

Bonny Downs Community Association has been working together to change lives and transform our community since 1998. Over the past 25 years our team has grown to provide a wide array of services that benefit Newham residents from all walks of life.
This role is specifically funded through the Youth Endowment fund as a pilot project ‘Thriving Communities’. You will be required to work alongside Thriving Communities commissioners, as well as the project’s Youth Justice Worker’s, Educational Psychologist, and/or professionals assigned to individual young people’s cases- such as teachers, social workers and mentors. Staff from each organisation will work together to deliver the programme and cross-refer young people to activities led by both teams. About the role
As Senior Campaigns and Public Affairs officer, you will be responsible for the shaping Crisis’ political influencing strategies for our national campaigns.
Through our research of what works both in the UK and internationally, and our work supporting thousands of people who are homeless or at risk each year, Crisis has developed the solutions needed from Westminster Government to reverse the rising levels of homelessness and we campaign to secure the policy changes needed. With the right political will and leadership, homelessness can be ended.
This role will oversee design and delivery of creative public affairs tactics that will inspire politicians to support our campaigns. This includes overseeing our work to provide the secretariat for the APPG for Ending Homelessness, managing our monitoring and stakeholder relationships and proactively identifying local and regional influencing opportunities.
The role sits within the Campaigns Team in the Policy and Social Change directorate, but you’ll collaborate with a wide range of teams across the organisation to identify influencing opportunities, ensure our campaigns and public affairs activity have maximum reach and ensure people with lived experience are at the heart of our political influencing activity.

About you
You will have significant experience of working with politicians in Parliament or Government and will have experience of designing and delivering political influencing strategies to secure policy change. To be successful in this role you will have solid understanding of Parliamentary process and have worked on a range of tactics to raise the profile of issues in Parliament, with excellent political judgement and intuition.
Effective communication and ability to manage a range of internal and external stakeholders will be vital in this role in order to work collaboratively to further our campaigning objectives. Line management experience is desirable, but more crucially you will have experience of motivating teams or individuals to deliver results.
Understanding or knowledge of homelessness or housing policy is desirable. You may have experience in; public affairs, policy, communications and public relations.

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Head of Public Affairs and Advocacy to join our team in Birmingham, with hybrid working (two days a week in our Birmingham office and three days working from home). In return, you will receive a competitive salary of £40,560 - £45,000 per annum depending on experience.
NGA is an independent, not-for-profit national membership organisation for state school governors, trustees and governance professionals in England. Our work aims to improve the educational standards and wellbeing of young people by increasing the effectiveness of governing boards and promoting high standards. As expert leaders in school and academy governance, we provide information, advice, guidance, professional development and e-learning.
About the role:
The role of Head of Public Affairs and Advocacy would suit candidates who are visionary leaders, passionate about transforming education and governance across England. NGA are looking for a candidate who will be able to innovate and enhance our current outreach and influence at national level, maintaining NGA’s reputation as the go-to authoritative voice on school and trust governance. As the role is new to the organisation, the ideal candidate will have considerable experience of developing an external affairs programme and leading on parliamentary work, harnessing the voice of NGA members to develop the advocacy strategies. Excellent project management and communications skills and the ability to work to strict deadlines are essential.

Key responsibilities of our Head of Public Affairs and Advocacy:
- Development and delivery of programme of advocacy and influence
- Craft and implement effective strategies to influence national education and governance related policy and practice, working closely with NGA’s chief executive and Deputy chief executive
- Maintain effective oversight of NGA’s PR activity
- Ensuring NGA positions, research findings and recommendations are well defined and effectively articulated through impactful messaging
- Ensure invitations to address external events are taken by and used to their best extent to further governance practice and our policy positions
- Oversight and development of NGA’s campaigns
- Lead of the development and, with the Senior Policy Officer, the delivery of NGA’s specific campaigns to influence policy and practice for example NGA’s Visible Governance, Funding the Future 2024 and Everyone on Board campaigns
- Managing NGA’s parliamentary work
- Establish a strategy for NGA’s parliamentary focus, driving NGA’s political engagement and related activities
- Monitor parliamentary business on a weekly basis to identify issues arising and opportunities to engage parliamentarians in discussion and debate about education policy and school governance
- Oversight of NGA Member voice and events
- Working with NGA’s Event Coordinator and SLT to ensure plans are in place, implemented effectively to budget and events evaluated to ensure member voice is both heard and acted upon
- Oversight of NGA’s webinar and podcast programme, ensuring these engage members and the wider sector on NGA’s policy and practice priorities and messaging
- Contributing to NGA’s policy, information and research work
What we’re looking for in our ideal Head of Public Affairs and Advocacy:
- Experience in public affairs, developing and implementing impactful external affairs strategies
- Experience of influencing public policy and/or parliamentary business
- Educated to degree level or equivalent, or similar ability gained through work experience relevant to the role
- Excellent understanding of local and national government, political and legislative processes
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including a proven ability to write confidently and concisely for a variety of audiences
- Strong interpersonal skills to build and maintain relationships with diverse stakeholders including members, partners and officials
- Analytical mindset with the ability to interpret data and metrics
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, social media and media monitoring tools
