Life in a rescue environment is never ideal for any cat compared to a loving home. Our cat adoption team leaders support cat homing and as part of this they may lead a team of volunteer home visitors who collectively play an important part in matching our feline friends with their new families. Our cat adoption team leaders support their team of volunteers in all aspects of their roles, making sure our volunteers are happy, confident and supported.

What we need from you

You’ll be:

• Acting as the main point of contact within the team for cat adoption enquiries via email/telephone and social media
• Supporting the adoption process through either homefinder questionnaires or a small team of home visitors
• Liaising closely with other volunteers to ensure information on cats being helped is correct and up to date
• Following up on any post-adoption queries
• Play an active part in the volunteer committee, being part of the team leading on cat adoption information and updates
• Collaborating with the cat welfare team leader to ensure the highest standards of cat care are applied in line with Cats Protection policy and procedures

Time expectation

The cat adoption team leader role is vital within our busy volunteer teams. Our current volunteers spend around 10 to 12 hours per week in this flexible role, which can be shared by more than one volunteer if required.

At Cats Protection we help thousands of cats and kittens each year thanks to our dedicated and passionate volunteer groups. We have branches across the UK, all of which help our cats in different ways. Branches take in stray and abandoned cats and ensure they receive the veterinary care and attention they deserve; help raise funds, promote neutering and help spread cat welfare messages. Our branch team leader volunteers lead their local team by supporting and managing volunteers within their group, maintaining communications with both volunteers and employees, and helping promote a positive and professional image of Cats Protection.

What we need from you

You’ll be:

• Supporting your team of volunteers in all aspects of their roles, making sure volunteers are happy and confident
• Making sure the team observes charity best practice and compliance
• Collaborating with your Branch Development Manager (BDM) to plan volunteer activity
• Leading the team to follow Cats Protection policies, procedures and guidelines
• Monitoring expenditure and helping ensure long term financial stability of the volunteer group
• Organising and chairing team meetings
• Acting as an ambassador for Cats Protection

Time expectation

Our branch team leader volunteers usually spend 10 to 15 hours per week in this role, which is flexible and can be shared by more than one volunteer if needed. There will be times of year when more hours are required, such as towards the end of the financial year, but support and guidance are available.

You’ll play an active part in the branch committee and support the branch with record keeping and planning, thus enabling more cats to be helped.

• Supporting engagement and communication between the branch and wider organisation
• Drafting committee meeting agendas and taking and sharing meeting minutes
• Supporting the efficient running of the branch by ensuring administration processes are carried out effectively
• Supporting the administration and update of the branch annual plan 
• Sign-posting queries from members of the public
• Keeping branch records and information up to date and secure, using Cats Protection systems – training will be provided

Time expectation

Our support volunteers usually spend 2-5 hours per week in this role, which is flexible and can be shared by more than one volunteer if needed.

From elderly moggies to energic kittens, every day across the UK cats and kittens are in need of a temporary place to stay, and lots of love and TLC! We need more fosterers like you to provide a safe, temporary haven for cats and kittens and provide them with everything they need before they get their chance to land on their four paws and make a house a home.

• A stable, safe and compassionate environment in your home or in a purpose-built pen in your garden provided by us

Time expectation

Our volunteer fosterers usually spend around one and a half hours per day (around 10 to 13 hours per week) in this role, but this might vary depending on the number of cats or kittens in care.

Help a growing education charity build the funding it needs to develop its programmes and reach more children and young people.

Coempowered is a small education charity creating spaces for philosophical inquiry, critical thinking and meaningful dialogue. We work mainly with children, young people and young adults, including Persian-speaking communities from Afghanistan and Iran, with Kurdish-language provision also developing.

We are at an important stage of our development and are looking for volunteers to help us strengthen our fundraising. This is a varied role that can be shaped around your experience, interests and strengths.

You might contribute to:

• researching trusts, foundations, grant programmes and other potential funding opportunities
• identifying opportunities that fit our programmes, beneficiaries and stage of development
• maintaining a funding pipeline and application calendar
• researching funders and understanding their priorities and requirements
• preparing and writing grant applications and expressions of interest
• adapting applications to different funders and criteria
• developing our case for support and other core fundraising materials
• gathering programme, impact, budget and organisational information needed for applications
• helping develop programme and project funding proposals
• keeping accurate records of applications, deadlines, outcomes and follow-ups
• supporting donor and partnership research
• contributing to fundraising planning and reviewing what is working
• helping us develop a practical longer-term fundraising strategy.

Different levels of experience are welcome

You do not need to be experienced in every aspect of fundraising.

If you have substantial fundraising experience, there is scope to take greater responsibility for developing our fundraising strategy, identifying priorities, improving our approach and supporting other fundraising volunteers.

If you are earlier in your fundraising career, or have strong transferable skills in research, writing, communications, project development or similar work, we can agree a more focused area of responsibility and support you to develop your experience.

We would rather build a good team around complementary strengths than expect one volunteer to do everything.

Who we’re looking for

Depending on the area you work on, useful skills and experience could include:

• fundraising or grant fundraising
• bid or proposal writing
• research and information gathering
• strong written communication
• project or programme development
• strategic planning
• donor or partnership research
• maintaining organised records and pipelines
• charity, education or community-sector experience.

Most importantly, we are looking for people who are reliable, thoughtful and able to produce careful, high-quality work. You should be able to work independently, communicate clearly and follow through on agreed responsibilities.

For roles involving substantial responsibility for fundraising strategy or major applications, relevant fundraising experience will be important.

Why your contribution matters

Fundraising is central to Coempowered’s next stage of development.

We have developed our educational work largely through volunteer effort. Building a stronger and more sustainable funding base will allow us to improve our programmes, support and train facilitators, strengthen our organisational capacity and reach more participants without compromising the quality of our educational work.

Your contribution could help us identify opportunities we would otherwise miss, submit stronger applications and build the systems and evidence needed to develop longer-term relationships with funders and supporters.

For an experienced fundraiser, there is also an opportunity to have a significant influence on how a developing charity approaches fundraising from the beginning.

Practical details

The role is fully remote and can be carried out from anywhere with reliable internet access.

Working hours are flexible and can be agreed according to your availability and area of responsibility. We ask volunteers to maintain regular communication, attend agreed online meetings where relevant and give reasonable notice if their availability changes.

We are particularly interested in volunteers who can contribute consistently over time, although we may also consider applicants with specialist fundraising expertise who can support a defined project or piece of work.

We’re looking for a reliable and organised volunteer to become a key part of Coempowered as we grow, helping us coordinate our people, programmes and day-to-day work.

Coempowered is a small education charity creating spaces for philosophical inquiry, critical thinking and meaningful dialogue. We work mainly with children, young people and young adults, including Persian-speaking communities from Afghanistan and Iran, with Kurdish-language provision also developing.

As our programmes and volunteer team grow, we need someone who can help connect the different parts of the organisation and make sure plans turn into action. You will work closely with the Executive Lead and gradually take greater ownership of day-to-day coordination.

What you’ll do

  You will help:

• coordinate volunteers across education, communications, fundraising, programme administration and other areas
• keep track of agreed actions, priorities and deadlines, and follow up where needed
• organise volunteer onboarding, meetings, check-ins and activity reporting
• support the coordination of educational programmes and organisational projects
• maintain simple trackers, calendars and shared records
• help information move effectively between different people and areas of work
• identify delays, gaps and practical problems early
• prepare short progress updates and keep outstanding actions visible
• improve simple coordination processes as the organisation develops.

You will start with clear, manageable responsibilities and learn how Coempowered works. As your knowledge and confidence develop, there will be scope to take greater ownership and help shape our coordination systems.

Who we’re looking for

Reliability is the most important quality. We need someone who follows through on commitments, communicates clearly and is comfortable politely chasing people when necessary.

You should be:

• organised and able to manage several priorities
• a clear and respectful communicator
• comfortable working independently and taking initiative
• able to recognise when something needs to be raised or discussed
• confident using shared documents, spreadsheets, calendars and online tools
• collaborative and comfortable working with people from different backgrounds
• committed to confidentiality, safeguarding and responsible handling of information.

Experience in project coordination, operations, administration, volunteer management, charities, education or community organisations would be useful, but we are equally interested in strong transferable skills.

Why the role matters

Much of our coordination currently depends on a small number of people who are also responsible for developing and delivering our educational work. Your contribution will help change that.

By keeping volunteers connected and activities on track, you will free our educational team to spend more time on teaching, programme development and supporting participants. You will also help us build more reliable ways of working as Coempowered develops.

Ultimately, better coordination means we can provide more consistent, sustained and high-quality educational opportunities to the communities we work with.

Practical details

The role is fully remote and can be carried out from anywhere with reliable internet access. We anticipate around 5–7 hours per week, arranged flexibly around your availability. Regular communication and attendance at agreed online meetings will be important.

We are looking for someone interested in contributing consistently over time and developing with the organisation, rather than completing a short one-off project.

Purpose of role: 

Support the Nova Family Programme tutors in facilitating online home school sessions.

Role Description: 

This role will be to act as a teaching assistant to tutors delivering online English, maths and science classes (for young people at Key Stage 2 and 3). With the disruption of Covid-19, many families were thrown into the unknown world of home schooling – made even more challenging when your own education isn’t up to scratch or English is your second language. We are delivering a free programme of online home school support to those who have been most negatively impacted by being out of school. The aim is to support children who may be falling behind with their studies and mitigating as far as possible the widening attainment gap. 

You will: 

• Enjoy working in a team

• Work with breakout groups of learners who need additional help 

• Facilitate the zoom classroom as required

What You'll Do:

· Engage your network: Reach out to friends, family, and colleagues to gather preloved items for auction. You’ll help give things a second life while raising funds for animals in need!

· Connect with your community: Tap into local Freecycle groups, social media, and even your neighborhood to find exciting items to auction.

· Reach out to businesses: Approach businesses for new, unused donations. It could be products, services, or gift cards that can help boost the auction's success.

· Admin support: Help with scheduling and listing items, making them appealing for our audiences. Also pack and post items promptly to ensure we provide excellent customer care.

Our phone support volunteers have the important task of calling patients with upcoming appointments to remind them of their visit, provide information for them to change or book hospital transport and to give information about our move to our new Moorfields centre in summer 2027. 

This role is fully remote and we require a minimum of a morning/early afternoon once a week. 

Friends of Moorfields volunteers perform an extremely important job ensuring that all patients who come to Moorfields feel comfortable, reassured and receive the best possible treatment regardless of the outcome of their appointment.

Are you a dog lover with room in your home to look after a dog during evenings and weekends? This could be the perfect role for you!

As a Training Dog Fosterer, you’ll provide a loving temporary home to a dog in training, typically for a period of 12 to 20 weeks, as they begin their journey to become a guide dog. You’ll get to see the progress your furry companion is making in their training and be a vital part of their journey, without the commitment of looking after a dog full time.

What you’ll be doing:

In this rewarding role, your support for a guide dog in training will include:

• Doing the school run for your dog in training! This will typically involve dropping them off and picking them up at an agreed time Monday to Friday at one of our regional centres or community teams, however, some sites may vary. There are some locations where we will be able to collect and return the training dog from your home. 
• Caring for your dog in your home such as feeding, grooming, free running and playing, following the advice of our expert staff.
• Helping your dog keep up with their training by reinforcing the techniques at home from our first-class training programme.
• Making sure your dog is not left alone for more than four hours in a 24-hour period. If you’re planning on going on holiday, let us know at your initial phone call so we can plan alternative cover for your future life changer.

Can I foster a dog?

If you’re hoping to foster a guide dog in training, here’s what we ideally look for:

• Being close to one of our regional centres or community teams so that your dog can get to their training. 
• The agreement of your landlord to have a dog in your home if you rent your home.
• A safe and secure area outside for the dog to go to the toilet.

However, we try to be flexible – for example, you’ll still be able to foster a dog if you live in London, even if you don’t have access to outside space.

• A dedicated volunteer manager and fellow peers who will help support you throughout your role.

Training and support

You’ll attend a training workshop to understand the basics of our bespoke training techniques so you can confidently support your dog’s training at home. You’ll also receive ongoing guidance from your volunteer manager. If you have questions about the training requirements, we can answer these at your initial phone call along with any other support or accessibility needs you may have.

Volunteering for Guide Dogs should never leave you out of pocket. We’ll make sure we pay any pre-agreed expenses related to volunteering with us, including veterinary costs, dog food costs and other materials needed for your dog’s training.

Minimum age for volunteer is 18.

We also have a respite fosterer role available in some areas, where a dog would stay with you full time before moving on to the next stage of its journey.

If you have space in your home and heart, for a guide dog mum who will be bringing the next generation of guide dogs in the world, then this could be the role for you! A role where you can care and nurture for a guide dog mum and plenty of little puppies when they arrive. 

This role is available in areas of Berkshire, South Buckinghamshire, and Oxfordshire.

What you’ll be doing: 

• Providing a loving home for a guide dog mum who will be at least 12 months old, for around six years whilst they are in the breeding programme (with the option to re-home after this, once the guide dog mum retires at around 7 years-old.) 
• Giving a guide dog mum the care and support that our canine companions need, like feeding and grooming.
• Creating a safe environment for the guide dog mum when they are giving birth within your home and helping with the birth of future guide dogs, which usually happens once a year. (You don’t need any previous experience of breeding or having dogs – we have expert staff who will help you!) 
• Providing care and support for the newborn puppies for at least 6 weeks while they are still in the nest, including socialising them to the new sounds and first-time experiences in your home.

Can I care for a guide dog mum? 

If you want to care for a guide dog mum, here's what we ideally look for:

• A loving home with a secure garden.
• Access to a car, to support with any appointments needed for the guide dog mum.
• Live within an hour’s drive of the National Centre in Leamington Spa.

Guide dog mums can happily live with other dogs or children, however we wouldn’t place them with a male dog that has not been neutered. To determine whether you are suitable, we will conduct a home visit as part of the application process.

Training and support

Our volunteers also receive lots of support from their volunteer managers to help them implement the training modules, as well as managing the birth of new-born puppies. If you have questions about the training requirements, we can answer these at your interview along with any other support or accessibility needs you may have.

Volunteering for Guide Dogs should never leave you out of pocket. We’ll make sure we pay any pre-agreed expenses related to the litter or your volunteering with us, including veterinary costs, food costs or any specialist breeding equipment.  All you may need to buy is a bed and grooming equipment.

Are you a dog lover? Do you have the time to help raise a life-changing puppy? Would you like to make a difference to someone's life? If you've answered yes to these questions, then this role could be perfect for you! 

As a Puppy Raiser, you'll provide a 6-8 week-old puppy with the vital foundation for its future role as a guide dog. You'll be looking after a puppy for 12-16 months and will guide him or her through training, socialisation, the introduction of new environments and experiences while providing a loving home.

There might be the odd chewed slipper along the way, but nothing beats the rewarding feeling of loving and raising a puppy who will go on to make an enormous difference to someone living with sight loss.

What you'll be doing:

• Engaging with our world-class training programme to prepare your puppy for the next stages of becoming a guide dog.
• Providing care and support for your puppy at home e.g., loving, grooming and feeding him or her. 
• Socialising your puppy and introducing him or her to a variety of environments to increase confidence – this can be as simple as taking your puppy with you to the shops, office or park as you go about your everyday life.
• Teaching your puppy to be comfortable alone - gradually building up from a few minutes to a maximum of four hours.
• Taking your puppy to monthly puppy classes, and interacting with other puppy raisers in your community whilst refreshing your training and sharing tips.
• Meeting with your volunteer manager as frequently as needed to discuss any changes or issues with your puppy.
• Completing short questionnaires about your puppy’s development.

You'll ideally have:

• A loving home with enough time to invest in raising a puppy and attending to their needs (e.g. toilet training). If you work from home or have hobbies, you'll need to be available to give the puppy regular attention alongside these.
• Someone at home who is physically able to handle large breed dogs (around 25-40kg).
• Access to a car, so that you can get your puppy used to travelling.
• The agreement of your landlord to have a dog in the property if you rent your home. 
• A safe secure area outside for your puppy to go to the toilet.

s a volunteer you'll have access to our world-class training programme, to implement with your puppy in training, a great bonus for any dog owner! This is delivered in an interactive and engaging manner, using a mixture of different learning techniques virtually e.g., videos, documents and e-learning modules. Examples of the modules you'll have access to include:

• Food manners
• Greeting new visitors
• Being home alone
• Settling in new environments

You'll receive plenty of support from your volunteer manager who will help you work through these training modules with your puppy. We also offer puppy classes for puppy raisers in the local area to get together, share stories and provide refreshers on training techniques. 

Volunteering for Guide Dogs should never leave you out of pocket. We’ll make sure we pay any pre-agreed expenses related to volunteering with us, including veterinary costs, food costs for the puppy and other materials needed for the puppy’s training. We will also pay an optional allowance of up to £100 a year to offset additional costs, and we have working agreements with certain bus and train operating companies, letting you take your puppy on short training journeys free of charge.
