Grants from charitable trusts and foundations are an essential source of funding for community organisations working with deaf children, young people and their families. This support allows communities to develop work that meets the needs of deaf children and young people. With your knowledge of grants and persuasive writing skills, you’ll help support communities to research and submit life-changing funding bids.

About you

• Aged 18 years and over

• Knowledge of potential funding sources both locally and nationally

• Ability to volunteer independently from home under your own initiative

• Well organised with good attention to detail

• Proactive and reliable

• Confident user of Microsoft packages and databases

What you will do

• Support community groups and organisations to identify and win new sources of funding

• Research trusts and foundations (both locally and nationally) that may support work in communities

• Prepare information about funders including deadlines and criteria for applications

• Develop links with funders and share information

• Work with organisations to write compelling applications that meet the required conditions

• Understand the boundaries of the role and ask for support where appropriate

Support and training
We will provide you with:

• Basic training to help keep yourself, others, and data safe

• Feedback on the funding bids to which you contribute and their outcomes

• A named point of contact at the National Deaf Children’s Society

• Reimbursement of agreed expenses such as travel costs

• Clear information about what to do and who to contact if you are worried about something

Family Friends carefully recruits, trains, and matches volunteers with families in Central-West London. Our befriending volunteers offer long-term practical and emotional support based on each family's unique needs and potential. We offer two befriending volunteer opportunities with us-, Big Buddies and Parent Buddies.

Our Big Buddies support young people, aged 10-18, for a few hours each week over a period of up to 12 months. With encouragement and support, volunteers will aim to help young people to discover their strengths and build confidence.

Support may look like:

• Helping to strengthen family relationships.
• Providing a listening ear 
• Taking young person to the cinema, museums, libraries - broadening their horizons!

Essential Criteria:

• Can commit to the Big Buddies programme for a minimum of 6 months
• 18+
• Must have lived in the UK for the last 2 years

• Full DBS check
• Support and supervision

• References provided after 6 months' commitment
• Reimbursement of travel and session expenses

This is a great opportunity to assist a small but mighty charity.

Description

Our small charity delivers awareness campaigns and a range of support services to patients, relatives, partners and carers who have been affected by a debilitating chronic condition; Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS). We are urgently looking for 2 experienced email marketing volunteers to join our communications team.

You will be a big link to our charity's clients who are vulnerable and isolated, to them learning more about events, our latest articles, fundraising events as well as ensuring they are aware of the services that we offer that be of help to them. You will also be helping us to raise awareness of this devastating chronic condition.

Even though we are a small organisation we have big ideas and having regular contact through emails and newsletters will show consistency and know they can rely on us to be there for them.

We would like the volunteer to help with:

• Email content: Develop our communication & marketing content calendar, write compelling regular email content, including calls for donations & support, that is relevant and has clear a call-to-action and high click through rates;
• Email content (membership): Create a regular email newsletter for our membership scheme
• Create a number of automated email series - for donors, members, fundraisers and more
• Newsletter strategy: Help us plan and articulate how we can use emails and newsletters to strengthen our organisation, motivate our supporters and communicate with our sponsors;
• Design and implement campaigns and promotional activity

What are you looking for in a volunteer?

We are looking for 2 volunteers who have:

• Strong writing and editing skills
• Good communicator
• Good computer skills and a willingness to be contacted via email and/or video chat
• Experience using email marketing software - specifically Mailchimp
• Marketing skills
• Experience of working on marketing strategies
• Ability to quickly understand the needs of our team, organisation and our services users (we are not expecting you to know about the condition we support)
• Can ask key questions to enable us to clarify requirements
• Understands the resource constraints of a small charity and is able to work with these
• Open to feedback
• A passion for marketing and email marketing
• Ability to work flexibly on your own or as part of a team with enthusiasm and commitment
• Ability to create email campaigns with little supervision (after initial support)

What impact will the opportunity have?

You will be joining a small charity during a challenging period and your expert knowledge and experience will be invaluable to our success. With your help we will expand our readership to ensure more people are aware of this condition, which will help those affected by it when they see a health professional.

Our fundraising team leaders support their team of volunteers in all aspects of their roles, making sure our volunteers are happy, confident and supported.

As a charity we are able to help thousands of cats each year thanks to the generous donations we receive from members of the public. Our fundraising team leaders have the exciting and varied role of inspiring our fundraising volunteers to plan and deliver local fundraising events. Using their passion and imagination, they oversee a small team of fundraising volunteers who come together to raise the vital funds needed to cover costs such as veterinary bills and food. Grow Cardiff is a grassroots charity creating life-changing community gardens across the city. As we expand our reach, we’re looking for a new Treasurer to guide our financial health and governance as a key member of our board of eight trustees. We welcome candidates from all backgrounds and will provide a full induction.

The Role
As Treasurer, you’ll provide strategic oversight and financial stewardship to ensure our small but growing organisation stays resilient and impactful. You’ll work closely with our Director, Chair, and Admin & Finance Officer, supporting everything from budget setting to risk management and audit preparation. You’ll also play a key role in demystifying financial matters for our Board

Core Responsibilities

• Monitor and report on the charity’s financial health
• Oversee internal accounts, annual statements, and financial controls
• Help develop financial policies on reserves, budgeting, and risk.
• Advise on financial implications of strategic plans
• Liaise with external accountants and auditors
• Support board learning and decision-making with accessible financial insight
• Work collaboratively on systems like Xero

Who We’re Looking For

• We’re after a finance professional (active or recently retired) with:
• Commercial or SME finance experience (charity finance a bonus)
• Strategic thinking and risk management skills
• An ability to communicate financial info clearly to non-specialists
• A willingness to be hands-on and collaborative.

Your Commitment
​Estimated time: 4–6 hours/month including: 

• Board meetings: every 8 weeks (currently first Wed of the month, held in the Dusty Forge community centre, Ely)
• Monthly check-ins with the Director (remote possible)
• 1–2 half day away days per year with the board
