Placement Volunteers at the British Red Cross are highly valued for the skills and energy they bring. We aim to provide our placement volunteers with an insight into the daily workings of the world’s largest humanitarian organisation. They will have access to relevant in-house training and development opportunities during their placement with possible ad hoc opportunities to get involved in other areas of activity.

Our placement volunteers will help make a great contribution to the work of the British Red Cross and will be responsible for achieving specific agreed objectives within one of our various departments.

About the role:

The Executive Director’s Office is seeking a volunteer to provide short-term administrative and coordination support to the team during a particularly busy period.

Working closely with the Executive Support Officer and other colleagues, the volunteer will help with a range of administrative, coordination and practical tasks to support the smooth running of the Executive Director’s Office and delivery of its priorities.

The expected start date for the placement is September 2026 and the placement will run for a period of 3 months (flexible weekdays).

This would suit someone who is highly organised, reliable, comfortable working with a range of colleagues and stakeholders, and able to handle information and requests with appropriate discretion and sensitivity.

Typical tasks may include:

• Provide day-to-day administrative support to the Executive Director’s Office.
• Help coordinate and track actions, deadlines and follow-up activities.
• Support the organisation of information, documents and relevant materials.
• Assist with scheduling meetings, preparing meeting materials and capturing actions where required.
• Support correspondence and communications with internal and external stakeholders.
• Maintain accurate records, contact lists and other relevant information.
• Help coordinate practical arrangements for meetings, visits and other activities involving the Executive Director’s Office.
• Help coordinate and support events/meetings hosted by the ED’s office
• Liaise with colleagues across the organisation to gather information and follow up on agreed actions.

Bursary Scheme:

The British Red Cross offers a bursary scheme to those placement volunteers from low-income households. Eligibility will be determined through a separate application process open to all short-listed candidates. All British Red Cross volunteers are entitled to out-of-pocket reasonable expenses. For this scheme we are defining low-income households as: Inside London: Living with family or partner £25,000 or under. Living independently £22.500 or under Outside London: Living with family or partner £18,500 or under. Living independently £16,500 or under

Role and Purpose

We are looking for a friendly, proactive and socially confident individual to help Influential Stars maintain a warm, visible and engaging presence across its social media platforms. As our Volunteer Social Media Engagement Assistant, you will interact as Influential Stars with Creators, Collaborators, registered causes and supporters.

You will respond to comments, acknowledge tags and shares, engage with relevant content and help ensure questions and opportunities reach the appropriate team member. This is primarily a social media engagement role.

Routine content creation, planning and scheduling are not core responsibilities; however, experience in these areas would be advantageous, as there may occasionally be opportunities to provide support or cover by mutual agreement. Your main purpose will be to help people feel noticed, valued and connected to the Influential Stars community.

Key Responsibilities

● Monitor comments, mentions, tags and relevant messages across Influential Stars’ social media accounts. ● Respond to comments in the approved Influential Stars tone of voice. ● Thank people for sharing, supporting, nominating or engaging with Influential Stars. ● Engage regularly as Influential Stars with registered Creators, Collaborators and causes. ● Like, comment on and support appropriate posts shared by members of the Influential Stars community. ● Engage regularly as Influential Stars with appropriate content shared by registered Creators, Collaborators and causes, including posts relating to live and upcoming campaigns. ● Help members of the Influential Stars community feel noticed and supported through consistent, meaningful interaction. ● Identify potential Creators, Collaborators, supporters and causes through social media engagement. ● Direct people towards the relevant Influential Stars information, registration page or support resources. ● Forward enquiries and potential opportunities requiring further action to the appropriate team member. ● Immediately escalate complaints, safeguarding concerns, payment questions, confidential information and any other sensitive or complex communications. ● Monitor for spam, inappropriate content or suspicious activity and report it to the relevant team member. ● Keep accurate notes of enquiries and follow-up actions where required. ● Share useful feedback, common questions and engagement opportunities with the wider team. ● Contribute ideas for improving community engagement and strengthening relationships across social media. Board Members are jointly and severally responsible for the overall governance and strategic direction of the charity, its financial health, probity of its activities, developing the organisation’s aims, objectives, and goals in accordance with the Constitution, legal and regulatory guidelines. All Board Members should be aware of and understand their individual and collective responsibilities and should not be overly reliant on one or more Members in any aspect of the governance of the charity.

Chair Specific Duties

• Rebuild with Hope operates within the law, and according to its constitution and its commitments to stakeholders and is adequately resourced to meet its commitments.
• Rebuild with Hope develops an effective strategy in line with the core values of the organisation
• All Board Members are fully involved in discussions and decisions, and the contribution of individual Members is monitored. The Chair will encourage group decision making, teamwork, and a sense of shared purpose, and will foster a sense of inclusivity and shared mission by informing the Board at each meeting of any ‘Chair’s business’ which has taken place since the last meeting
• The Board’s agenda is appropriate and focuses on the key strategic issues, all planned business is dealt with in an equitable, fair manner and a conclusion is reached in each case, and that decisions are clearly and accurately minuted
• The Board continually monitors Rebuild with Hope’s progress, and that Board Members have regular, timely and relevant information on strategic and financial issues and key risks
• Board Members have a proper knowledge and understanding of their roles and responsibilities
• The Board delegates, as appropriate, to its Committees and to its Chief Executive
• Regular reviews of Board, Committee and Chief Executive performance are undertaken, and a programme of development processes for the Board, its Members, and the Chief Executive is established
• Periodic reviews of the composition and workings of Rebuild with Hope are undertaken to ensure it continues to respond appropriately to changes in the wider environment
• Effective use is made of the Board’s time within, and between, meetings
• The Board receives professional advice when necessary
• The support and commitment of Rebuild with Hope’s partners and key stakeholders are developed and sustained
• They represent Rebuild with Hope as required and foster positive relationships with a range of stakeholders. The Chair will ensure that a high profile is maintained for the organisation, and that stakeholders are kept informed of our work
• Positive working relationships are maintained among Board Members and with the Chief Executive to enable an appropriate balance of challenge and support to be provided 

Duties

• Ensuring the charity complies with legislative and regulatory requirements and acts within the confines of the Constitution and its charitable objects.
• Acting in the best interest of the charity, beneficiaries, and future beneficiaries.
• Promoting and developing the charity to help it grow and maintain its public benefit.
• Maintaining sound financial management and control of the charity’s resources.
• Ensuring a fully effective and appropriate system recruitment, for appointment the and monitoring of the work and activities for the CEO and Senior Management team.
• Ensuring the effective and efficient administration of the charity and its resources, striving for best practice in good governance.
• Maintaining absolute confidentiality about all aspects of Trustees’ business

In this role, you will be:

• Delivering talks to groups of sighted people about your lived experience of sight loss to challenge their perceptions and behaviours. Audiences will vary but may include local businesses, community, faith and voluntary groups.

• Making links with your own existing groups and networks in your local community that may want to be involved in reducing barriers to blind and partially sighted people.
• Building relationships with people or local businesses you know.
• Taking part in and sharing information about specific campaigns and initiatives to help remove barriers to blind and partially sighted people.
• Delivering talks on behalf of RNIB’s Social Action Team.
