Position Overview

This is a dynamic and rewarding internship opportunity to play a hands-on role in shaping the voice and visual identity of SEED Madagascar. As part of a passionate and collaborative communications team, you will contribute directly to how our work is shared with global audiences—helping to tell powerful stories of community-led development and conservation in southeast Madagascar.

This role offers a unique blend of creativity and purpose. You will support social media management, develop engaging visual content, and curate impactful imagery that brings our programmes to life. It is ideally suited to a proactive and imaginative individual who is eager to build practical skills in communications while contributing to meaningful, real-world impact. Throughout the internship, you will gain valuable experience in digital storytelling, branding, and content strategy within an international development context.

Location: Remote – based anywhere in the world

Time zone: East Africa Time

About the organisation

SEED Madagascar is a British Charity working in partnership with communities in the southeast of Madagascar. We integrate high quality community health, livelihoods, education infrastructure and conservation programmes to support sustainable change and add to international best practice through research and publication across all of our programmatic areas.

The Democratic Progress Institute (DPI) is seeking to welcome volunteers to work within the Institute’s Programmes Team. Key areas of focus include conflict resolution and democratic transition processes in Turkey and Syria. Each volunteer will have the opportunity to work closely with – and learn from – the Programme Manager and other team members in planning and implementing DPI project activities, which include roundtable meetings in the region and international comparative study visits, as well as conducting project related research in the Institute’s main areas of interest, which include governance and constitutional reform; DDR and SSR; gender and conflict; the role of the media in conflict resolution and democratic reform process; and transitional justice among others.

DPI seeks candidates with a strong interest in international relations, conflict resolution and democracy building. These volunteer placements begin on a rolling basis and typically last three to six months, are unpaid, and preferably full time. A daily stipend is provided for lunch expenses. The successful candidates are likely to be current or recent postgraduates or at post-doctoral level.

Candidate Profile Project Skills:
The successful candidates may be invited to attend external conferences and DPI activities both in Turkey and elsewhere, and to write briefs and take detailed notes on behalf of the Institute, therefore touch-typing/transcribing experience is valued. Projects involve a high level of external communication with the diverse stakeholders engaged with DPI’s work, therefore excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential.

Much of this role will involve administrative assistance to the Programme Manager, including drafting correspondence and filing documentation. Administrative and organisational skills are key, and an enthusiasm for carrying out practical tasks in addition to research or activity related work is necessary in this role. These may include budget preparation, completion of expense reports, logistical planning and assistance.

The successful candidate will be invited to carry out in-depth desk research on behalf of DPI, which will feed into the Institute’s activities. This may include detailed research projects relating to the Institute’s main areas of work, high level briefs, and shorter, ad-hoc research tasks. Excellent research, writing and proofreading skills are highly valued. Many research papers worked on by interns are published on the Institute’s website and used as a resource for programme activities and meetings.

DPI’s Programmes Team operates within a fast paced environment, often planning and implementing ambitious projects to tight deadlines and within high pressured contexts on the ground. It is important that the successful candidate is self-motivated and able to work successfully independently and with minimal supervision.

IT skills are essential (Word, Adobe, PowerPoint) and project management experience is welcome.

Experience in Social Media strategy development and the use of various social media platforms will be an added advantage.

The successful candidate will demonstrate a proven interest in and knowledge of DPI’s areas of focus; namely conflict resolution and democratic advancement (including but not limited to the MENA region).

The Ask

You will play a vital role in updating and expanding our Community Food Map—a resource used by thousands to find everything from food banks and allotments to farmers' markets and cooking classes.

What You’ll Do

As part of the European-wide FEAST research project, you will:

• Update & Expand: Research and refresh map listings to ensure the data is trusted and accurate.
• Innovate: Help test a new 'self-reporting' idea that allows community members to suggest their own map additions.
• Integrate: Work to bring local food suppliers onto the map to support the local economy.
• Collaborate: Work directly with our Project and Comms Leads in a supportive, dynamic team.

Starfish is an international development charity aiming to bring life, hope and opportunity to children in South Africa who have been orphaned or made vulnerable through HIV/AIDS and poverty. Position Overview

This position offers an excellent opportunity to gain experience working with an award-winning international charity on their website, marketing and digital platforms. Working closely with the Communications and Marketing team, your skills will be used to maintain and improve the website, track performance metrics over time, contribute to campaigns and fundraising, and publicise the charity's programmes to an international audience.

This position can be worked from home, has flexible hours and is estimated to require 2-3 hours per week.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Manage updates to website pages via a CMS (Content Management System)

• Publish blogs, press releases and other publications to the website

• Participate in SEED’s small online marketing and PPC meetings once a month

• Monitor and provide feedback on SEED’s website performance using Google Analytics

• Assist in the creation of media campaigns such as Christmas Appeals

• Improve website content for SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) rankings

• Work with the Media and Communications Officer to improve marketing and communications

• Work with the Programmes team to design an eye-catching and informative update to how our work is presented

• Proactively suggest and make improvements to keep the website looking fresh and engaging

Person Specification

• Experience of creating or updating a website using a CMS

• Experience using Concrete5, Wordpress or similar

• Experience of basic image editing and graphic design skills

• Previous experience of Google Analytics, HTML and CSS knowledge and/or an understanding of SEO basics would be desirable

• Critical eye for proofreading content according to organisational style and guidelines

• Be fluent in English to a high standard

• Be able to work to and advocate for all of SEED’s policies and procedures, safeguarding those that SEED works with and reporting any concerns appropriately

Position Overview

Based in the coastal town of Fort Dauphin in the southeast of Madagascar, this post will provide support to our Environment and Conservation projects implemented by the NGO. The successful candidate will work within a combined national and international team to assist in the development of projects, from initial planning stages to final evaluations. Primary responsibilities include the writing of donor reports and proposals, providing additional support to the project team surrounding project management and monitoring and evaluation. The role is predominantly office-based with some bush travel. The diversity of activities undertaken will provide a wide-ranging experience for an early career development professional who can effectively and efficiently deal with a comprehensive range of tasks related to the complex world of overseas development.
