As a Fundraising Volunteer, you’ll support our fundraising activities, from community events and local partnerships to online campaigns. You’ll help inspire support for our programmes that empower people, promote wellbeing and build stronger communities.

What You’ll Be Doing
- Supporting the organisation and delivery of fundraising events and activities
- Helping prepare materials such as posters, donation forms and thank-you messages
- Promoting campaigns and community events online or in person
- Engaging with local businesses, schools or groups about partnerships or sponsorships
- Assisting with donation recording and simple reporting tasks
- Helping share stories that highlight how donations make a difference

Dive into lasting impact: Fundraise for East London Waterworks Park to create and shape natural swimming ponds, ecological habitats and community gardens
East London Waterworks Park is a volunteer-led charity that has won a 2024 New London Architecture award and raised £2m towards buying land from the Department for Education to transform the 14-acre Thames Water Depot on Lea Bridge Road on the border of Waltham Forest and Hackney, into a new biodiverse park with natural swimming ponds, forest schools and community spaces.
Do you have experience organising events, or would you like to get some? Our past fundraising activities have included pub quizzes, a photography competition and exhibition, sale of locally made jeans and more. If you’re buzzing with ideas of how to raise money or are keen to get stuck in and help to make some events happen, we would love to hear from you.
The Fundraising Circle currently meets fortnightly on a Thursday evening on Google Meet and spends voluntary time outside of the meeting completing agreed tasks remotely. We understand that people may not have a lot of time to give, so we want to find volunteers who could give us one-off or ongoing strategic advice and support.
East London Waterworks Park is an exciting and ambitious project that offers many rewarding opportunities for our volunteers. You will have a significant impact on the creation of a new biodiverse community-owned park with free access natural swimming ponds and forest schools.
By leading fundraising projects that explore how diverse professionals (architects, ecologists, web developers, community researchers etc.) collaborate to shape community infrastructure, volunteers will directly contribute to the development of a park that truly reflects the needs and desires of the local community.
Without funding we won’t be able to make it happen. Your input will help us craft experiences that inspire, educate, and engage our service users, stakeholders, funders, and the general public, ultimately driving support for the park's mission and ensuring its long-term sustainability. So you will be directly contributing to the creation of a new biodiverse community-owned park with free access natural swimming ponds.

Applications are warmly invited from potential volunteers who wish to join our Board of Trustees.
We do not require previous board experience and very much encourage applicants from across our diverse communities in Surrey. We will provide a wide range of support, training and development opportunities.
Hours: Approximately 3 - 6 hours per month
Supported by: Board and Chair of Trustees and CEO
Location: Meetings in Milford, Godalming with visits across Surrey.
Role: To work as part of the Trustee team in providing a governance framework for the Charity and to be able to make effective decisions and be accountable to the Charity Commission.
Skills:
We are looking for Trustees for our Board who may have skills in any of these areas, though not exclusively:
- Income Generation / Fundraising
- Legal
- The NHS
- Digital Marketing Experience
You would contribute actively to the Board of Trustees in defining the strategic direction of the organisation, setting overall policy, defining goals, setting targets and evaluating organisational performance against agreed strategic targets.
You would protect the reputation of our charity.
You would attend quarterly Board meetings and, potentially, committee meetings held twice yearly.
Attendance at Board Meetings is in person or remote. Committee meetings are attended remotely.
Role involves:
Scrutinising Board papers and other communications.
Abiding by Age UK Surrey’s policies and procedures and ensure these are effectively implemented.
Participating in activities to promote the Charity to our beneficiaries, funders and the wider public.

Set the strategic direction and delegate operational responsibility to the CEO.
Ensure the organisation complies with its governing document, charity law, company law and any other relevant legislation and regulations.
Ensure the organisation uses its resources effectively.
Protect and manage the property of the Charity and ensure the proper investment of the Charity’s funds.

Bowel Cancer UK is the UK’s leading bowel cancer charity. They support and fund targeted research, provide expert information and support to patients and their families, educate the public and professionals about the disease, and campaign for early diagnosis and access to best treatment and care.
Bowel Cancer UK is entering a defining period for the charity. Their strategy places bold focus on early diagnosis, improved treatment and care, accelerating research, and ensuring that every voice—especially those less often heard—shapes their direction.
About the Trustee opportunities:
We are seeking three talented and committed Trustees with a particularly interested in hearing from candidates with experience in one or more of the following areas:
- Professional healthcare (not only medics) with experience in research and caring for bowel cancer patients
- Fundraising / income generation
The charity is also keen for the Board to reflect more fully the UK-wide nature of their role and work, noting particularly that they don’t currently have a Board Member from Wales, as well as groups disproportionately affected by bowel cancer. For example, research shows that:
- Women are more likely than men to be diagnosed with bowel cancer in an emergency setting. These are often at a later stage, when bowel cancer is harder to treat.
- Black people are more likely than white people to be diagnosed in an emergency setting, when bowel cancer is harder to treat.
- People from ethnic minority groups have a lower participation rate in the bowel cancer screening programme than white people.
