At Acorns we provide care and support for life limited or life threatened children and their families. We are a charity, and our fundraising is vital to enable us to continue providing care and support to the children: it costs around £13 million a year to run our care services.

Join us as a Reception Volunteer at our Black Country Hospice in Walsall!

As an Reception Volunteer you'll be:

• Greeting all visitors, ensuring they sign in securely, feel welcomed and are passed over to the appropriate staff member
• Taking phone call messages to pass on to staff
• Signing post enquiries to the correct department
• Assisting general administration duties such as filing, scanning or checking stock deliveries
• With additional training taking donations and completing appropriate paperwork 

How much time will it take? 

We are looking for volunteers who are available to cover Thursdays at 2:30 pm till 5.00pm

We are also seeking volunteers who can work weekends only, with flexible hours. Please specify your preferred weekend shift on the application form.

Bring a Personal Touch to Supporting Our Legacy Community

Help us bulid personal connections with our leagagcy supporters, making them feel supported and valued.

The legacy marketing team steward supporters who have, or may, pledge a donation to the Fund in their will. Gifts in Wills are an essential source of income for the Fund and are due to bring in around £10 million in 2025 with a similar amount forecast for 2026 and are the largest income stream. These donations are vital to the Fund’s ability to provide support to the RAF Family at the scale we are able to – supporting 64,876 members of the RAF Family in 2024, offering timely, compassionate and tailored help. With In-Memory, these are supporters who have either donated in-memory of a loved one who has passed or are funds collected from a funeral collection.

Volunteers in this role will help the Fund to add a more personal touch to how we communicate with and steward our legacy supporters. This role will enhance the Fund’s relationships with these individuals and provide a more tailored approach to thanking them for the generous gifts that allow us to provide our services. 

Volunteers are asked to support the legacy and in-memory marketing team in a variety of ways that enhance the experience of our legacy and in-memory. Volunteers can choose to help in any or all of the below ways – for all of which you will be provided with a script by the team:

• Hand writing letters of thanks to supporters offering thanks for their support depending on their relationship with the Fund (e.g. considering leaving a gift, already pledged to leve a gift, received an in-memory donation etc).

• Phoning attendees of legacy events ahead of the event to check their attendance, any requirements and answer any questions.

• Assembling gift packs to be given out at legacy events.

• Assit with our online Much Loved pages by adding a thank you message and providing personal touches to dedication page such as lighting candles when they set the page up and again around significant anniversaries (training will be provided for this element inhouse).

Skills and attributes needed for this role include: 

• Empathetic

• Clear, neat, legible handwriting 

• Good listener 

• Confident telephone manner 

• Able to handle sensitive or emotional conversations centred around death (if choosing to help with the telephone part of the role).

• Able to use Microsoft Excel for record keeping (guidance provided). 

Volunteer Profile 

This is a 6 weeks fixed duration position. As a volunteer you will support the NIAS  Charity shop team in day to day activities. The role will require you to be fit, proactive, have good customer services skills and be committed to NIAS values (Doing Good the Right Way) and standards set by the NIAS charity shops. 

Main responsibilities

The role of a NIAS charity shop volunteer is varied and covers a variety of responsibilities. The following list highlights some of the main tasks you will need to carry out day to day. These responsibilities can change depending on the needs of the shop so you will need to be adaptable in your approach to managing different tasks. 

-  Customer service 

-       Communicating the NIAS mission and charity objectives to customers who enquire

-Accepting, sorting and pricing donations of furniture, clothing and bric-a-brac

-Shop merchandising 

-Researching unusual or high value items 

-Operating the till

-Keep a record of donations and working with delivery team to coordinate delivery and collections

-Helping with collections/deliveries/maintenance 

-Accepting phone calls and emails from donors 

-Ensuring the shop is kept tidy and clean at all times

We’re looking for friendly, reliable volunteers to join our network of Sooty Box collectors. In this flexible role, you’ll help place new boxes and collect and bank donations from Sooty Boxes in local shops, cafés and other businesses in your area. Whether you volunteer on your own, with a friend or as part of a group, you’ll be making a real difference in your community.

You can give as much or as little time as you like and fit the role around your other commitments.

We're looking for a finance assistant volunteer who can support the financial administration of the charity using our finance software,  Xero. We The volunteer will support the Chair to undertake regular financial tasks such as budgeting, reporting, and audits while ensuring financial transparency. 
 

Key Tasks and Objectives

• Support the financial management of the Charity using Xero
• Data Entry: Recording financial transactions such as donations, invoices and expenses into our finance software, Xero.
• Weekly Reconciling income into Xero from GoCardless, Stripe, PayPal and other third-party agencies that facilitate donations being made to the charity.
• Maintain financial and accounting records, ensuring accuracy and consistency
• Assist with preparing payroll and/or pension information for submission to an external payroll provider (when required)
• Assist with the preparation of the accounts, quarterly and annual accounts for accountant annually as well as supporting funder financial reports
• Track the financial situation of projects
• Ensure that all necessary financial information is recorded accurately
• Assist with financial forecasting and budgeting
• Document Management: Organising and filing receipts, invoices, and other financial documents (digitally).
• Assist the Chair, volunteers or members of staff in understanding and using the accounting software
• Any other tasks that may be required from time to time or during the final accounts period, as appropriate.
• Assist with general administration relating to finances

Key Skills or Qualifications

Essential:

• Knowledge and experience of using Xero accounting software, including tracking project spending, managing volunteers’ expenses and department spending, uploading invoices, reconciliation, etc.
• Understanding of tracking financial data and information
• Experience of working in a bookkeeping role
• Accurate and up-to-date knowledge and experience of charity finance, SORP and other relevant frameworks
• The ability to quickly understand the needs of and challenges faced by our small charity organisation
• Strong numeracy and financial management skills
• Strong organisational skills
