Our vision is to help build communities that save lives and serve each other through volunteering for health and first aid.

Young people play a crucial role in helping us realise this mission. As a volunteer with our youth teams, you’ll be trained to provide our young people with both life skills and lifesaving skills – all while having great fun!

You’ll be working with our brilliant Badgers (aged 7-10) or creative Cadets (aged 11-18). You’ll also have the opportunity to design your own role, whether that involves running fun activities – such as outdoor events, summer camps and mountain adventures – or providing ‘behind-the-scenes’ support.

We’ll offer you the chance to become a fully-fledged Youth Leader, which will mean completing extra courses in First Aid or Adventure to broaden your capacity and experience.

Would you like to volunteer once a week or once a month? That’s entirely up to you. With the constant guidance of a friendly volunteer manager and youth team, you’ll have all the support you need to make bold strides and rediscover your inner ‘big kid’.

Youth Helper work directly with young people in St John Ambulance Badger Setts and Cadet Units. By supporting our Youth Leaders to deliver a session across our range of programmes. In this role, you'll support the learning and development of young people into the next generation of health citizens. Youth Helpers also help young people develop their confidence, teamwork skills, self-discipline, and generally encourage them to strive to be the best they can be, as well as supervise and support other adult volunteers in their team. you’ll get a huge sense of satisfaction and pride delivering an essential service. It’s great for you, great for your community and great for our nation, and it requires only a small commitment of your time. 

Typically, Cadet groups meet weekly in school term-time. Full Network monthly update meetings take place on the first Monday of each month (this can be attended in person, online or viewed later).

Medical equipment and devices enable St John Ambulance to deliver Community First Aid, Event Medical provision, Urgent & Emergency Care and training, so getting logistics right is vitally important. St John Ambulance teaches people first aid so they can be the difference between life and death, and you can help us do this. We need people who have a passion for helping others, care about their communities and want to make a difference, supporting them to become safe and more resilient by enabling our volunteers and staff to have the right equipment and resources to do the job. As an Operational Support Lead, you’ll support St John Ambulance in deploying equipment to events and activities within your community, as well as support the maintaining of equipment to ensure networks are properly resourced.

We will make sure you will have access to a proper induction to volunteering with SJA and the training you need for the role you take on. At Chestnut Tree House, making memories for families is at the heart of what we do. We're looking for skilled sewing volunteers with their own sewing machine to help transform treasured clothing into memory bears and keepsakes through our Material Memories service. Using a supplied pattern and guidance from our support workers, you'll create unique items that reflect each family's wishes. Volunteers attend monthly sewing groups to collect materials and discuss projects, then complete the work at home. By sharing your sewing skills, you'll help create lasting keepsakes that bring comfort and connection to families for years to come.

This role is ideal for experienced needle workers who have their own sewing machine and are happy to work on projects at home. We hold monthly sewing groups, where you'll receive materials, chat through briefs, and meet other volunteers (you'll need to bring your machine with you). There may also be opportunities to help repair and restore memory blankets for the children and young people who use Chestnut Tree House.

You will need a car to attend the monthly sewing groups because of the location.

Volunteer Drivers: 

We are looking for regular and occasional volunteer drivers to provide safe and friendly transportation for our older members to and from our centre. A D1 License would be required for the role. We can provide additional free training through MiDAS. Each driver is accompanied with a Passenger Assistant to assist with navigation, phone calls, and assisting members.

We have two wheelchair-accessible shuttle buses which are stored on our premises. Each bus is wheelchair accessible and accommodates 8 service users, 1 passenger assistant, and 1 driver. Our service users are primarily located in Deptford, Lewisham, and Greenwich.

About Deptford Mission 

Our charity is called Deptford Mission, located on 1 Creek Road, London. Our organisation operates a day centre three days a week (Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays) that provides social activities and community support for older persons in the community. We run a shuttle bus service that transports older persons to our centre, where they can enjoy a three-course lunch, coffee and tea service, and activities such as bingo, musical classes, chair yoga, and occasional local outings. Our day centre is open on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 10:00am to 3:00pm. 

We work with volunteers from diverse backgrounds and walks of life and can accommodate individuals with learning differences, complex histories, and support needs. We also provide lunch to our volunteers during their shifts, and we are happy to help support specific skills that they may wish to develop. Many of our volunteers have obtained experience and confidence to pursue employment in social care, health care, and higher education.

No one should die because they needed first aid and didn’t get it. St John Ambulance teaches people first aid so they can be the difference between life and death, and you can help us do this.

We will achieve that by putting first aid at the heart of every community.​As a Fundraising Lead, you will coordinate the activity of a group of dedicated volunteers to achieve fundraising goals and support the work of St John Ambulance. Other aspects of the role include- coordinating and leading fundraising activity with your team, leading or supporting the recruitment of fundraising volunteers , supporting the promotion of local, regional and national fundraising campaigns and activities and working closely with the Community Fundraising Manager

We are looking for an enthusiastic individual to coordinate the unit's fundraising activities, leasing with the Regional Fundraising Coordinator.

The successful candidate will be someone who can work in a team or on their own initiative, is outgoing, determined and energetic and has an enthusiasm for the work of St John Ambulance and it's values. Knowledge of their local community and experience of fundraising or event organisation would be useful but is not essential.

Are you a current Keele student looking to make a difference during your time at university?

The Keele Student Volunteering Group is part of the North Staffordshire Network, offering you the best of both worlds: student-led sessions on campus and access to a wide range of training and public event medical cover across the wider area.

 There will be a six-day Emergency Responder Course and associated e-learning to be completed for the role.

 There is a minimum requirement of 100 hours of volunteering per year. Keele students meet on Monday evenings (7 pm) during term time on the Keele Campus.

You’re also welcome to join Wednesday sessions at our partner hub located in Stoke, or the Tuesday sessions run by our neighbouring network at either Hanley or Cheadle.

We run a monthly whole network training night in Hanley, for which transport can be provided from campus to attend; offering a great mix of opportunities to work alongside fellow volunteers and learn from a wide variety of subject experts to continue your ongoing training/development.

You must be able to complete a minimum of 100 clinical volunteering hours each year at events to keep your skills up to date.

This vacancy is also open to prospective volunteers looking to join the North Staffordshire Network.

Martlets, Chestnut Tree House and St Barnabas House have collection tins hosted by a wide variety of businesses across Worthing, Sussex, Brighton and Hove and surrounding areas. Our tins continue to play an important role in raising money and awareness for the hospices so that we can continue to provide specialist care.

These tins need to be collected, replaced, and returned to our fundraising offices or shops on a regular basis. With collections expected to be completed on a 6-8 week cycle.

We are looking for friendly, reliable people to help us with this important fundraising and community liaison role.

You will be the face of the Fundraising team in your locality, representing the hospices when collecting. This is a chance to involve yourself with the community by building a relationship with our collection tin hosts and keeping them up to date with any news from us.

This is the perfect opportunity for anyone looking for a flexible volunteering role to fit around other commitments. We can discuss potential rounds based on where you live and an appropriate distance to travel.
