The Almshouse Association is the national membership body representing almshouse charities across England and Wales and supporting the wider charitable housing sector. As part of this work, we support the Charity Housing Alliance (CHA), a growing network of charitable housing providers, housing trusts and not-for-profit housing organisations.

The Charity Housing Alliance works with members, partners and policymakers to raise awareness of the vital contribution charitable housing providers make to communities, while advocating for greater recognition and support for the sector.

About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity to support a growing national initiative that is helping to shape the future of charitable housing.

Working closely with The Almshouse Association and Charity Housing Alliance leadership team, you'll play an important role in supporting membership engagement, communications, research and administration. You'll help build relationships across the sector, strengthen the Alliance's network, and support activities that raise the profile of charitable housing providers at both local and national level.

This is a varied and rewarding opportunity for someone who is organised, proactive and enjoys working collaboratively. Key Responsibilities

Membership Engagement & Development

• Respond to enquiries from members, stakeholders and supporters.
• Support initiatives to grow and strengthen the Alliance's network.
• Assist with outreach to potential members and partners.
• Help welcome and engage new members.
• Encourage participation and engagement across the network.

Communications & Awareness Raising

• Support the management of the Charity Housing Alliance website.
• Assist with social media activity and awareness campaigns.
• Contribute to newsletters, member communications and promotional materials.
• Monitor sector developments and identify opportunities to promote the Alliance's work.

Research & Policy Support

• Research policy, legislation and developments affecting charitable housing.
• Support the collection of case studies and sector insights.
• Monitor consultations, funding opportunities and sector announcements.
• Research new partnerships and opportunities for the Alliance.

Administration & Coordination

• Provide day-to-day administrative support.
• Organise meetings, events, webinars and stakeholder engagement activities.
• Maintain records and contact databases.
• Assist with reports, presentations and briefing papers.

About You

Essential

• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Confidence communicating via telephone, email and online platforms.
• Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently and use your initiative.
• Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office.
• Interest in housing, charities, social impact, membership organisations or public policy.
• Enthusiastic, proactive and willing to learn.

Desirable

• Experience working or volunteering within the charity, housing or public sectors.
• Experience supporting membership organisations, networks or representative bodies.
• Knowledge of charitable housing, almshouses or community housing.
• Experience with websites, social media or CRM systems.
• Understanding of government policy-making or stakeholder engagement.

Art Explora is a non-profit arts organisation that aims to share arts and culture with everyone - locally, nationally and internationally - and inspire new encounters between arts and audiences.

Arts at Home supports older people to access arts and culture by encouraging conversation and connection through art. We are looking for volunteers to participate in our "Arts at Home" sessions in residential care homes. In these sessions, you will introduce works of art of your choice and facilitate conversations around the artworks with residents. No prior professional experience is needed; we will provide you with the necessary training.

You will need to be able to travel to Birmingham locations independently (pre agreed local travel expenses paid).

Arts at Home brings conversations about art to people as a tool to tackle loneliness and isolation. Volunteers choose artworks in advance of each session to present to the residents, and though a small amount of preparation is required, prior knowledge of art history is not. Instead, the sessions are participatory and informal, with a focus on communication and connection. Often an artwork will spark conversation about something else entirely, with residents and volunteers reminiscing about past experiences, sharing stories and finding common ground! 

Perinatal Support Volunteers provide one-to-one support to parents during pregnancy and up to nine months after the birth. These parents either have mental health issues or are at risk of developing them.

Perinatal Support Volunteers visit these families once a week (usually weekdays during working hours) for 2-3 hours, providing emotional support and practical help in the family’s home or local community. Support is aimed at empowering parents and building resilience beyond the support period.

The type of support Perinatal Support Volunteers provide to parents may include:

• An empathetic and non-judgemental listening ear
• Support to prepare for parenthood
• Support to build confidence in parenting skills
• Support to develop a positive relationship with their infant
• Support to establish daily and weekly routines
• Support to take time for self-care
• Support to manage the things that are causing stress
• Support to access relevant services
• Support to access local green spaces
• Support to make connections with other parents

No special qualifications are necessary to become a Perinatal Support Volunteer, but Home-Start volunteers are usually either parents or grandparents themselves, or people with experience of young children and family life. We particularly welcome volunteers with lived experience of perinatal mental health challenges.

Every year, young people in our community face the frightening reality of having nowhere safe to stay. By becoming a Volunteer Nightstop Host, you can provide a warm welcome, a safe place to sleep, and the breathing space a young person needs while longer-term support is put in place.

About Us

Wyre Forest and South Worcestershire Nightstop and Mediation works with young people aged 16–25 who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. We believe everyone deserves the opportunity to build an independent and positive future.

Our services include:

• Safe, emergency accommodation through our Nightstop community hosting scheme.
• Family and school mediation to help prevent relationship breakdown.
• Homelessness prevention through education, life skills workshops and crisis support.

About Nightstop

Nightstop provides emergency accommodation in the homes of trained and approved volunteer hosts. Rather than spending the night on the streets or in unsafe situations, young people are offered a temporary, safe place to stay while our team works to find appropriate longer-term accommodation and support.

As a Volunteer Nightstop Host, you'll never be working alone. Our experienced team provides ongoing guidance and support throughout every placement.

What You'll Do

As a Nightstop Host, you'll:

• Provide a clean, safe and private bedroom for a young person needing emergency overnight accommodation.
• Offer an evening meal, breakfast and a packed lunch.
• Give access to bathroom facilities and laundry if needed.
• Stay in regular contact with the Nightstop team before, during and after placements.
• Maintain appropriate professional boundaries while providing a welcoming environment.

Placements are short-term and arranged around your availability.

Who We're Looking For

You don't need previous experience—what matters most is compassion, reliability and a willingness to help.

We're looking for people who:

• Want to support young people experiencing homelessness.
• Can offer a non-judgemental and respectful approach.
• Have a spare bedroom available at short notice.
• Are willing to complete training and work alongside our experienced team.
• Have an interest in making a real difference within their local community.

Training and Support

We'll make sure you feel confident before welcoming your first guest.

You'll receive:

• Comprehensive induction and ongoing training.
• Daily check-in calls throughout each hosting placement.
• Access to a 24-hour emergency on-call service.
• Regular supervision and support meetings.
• Opportunities to attend additional training delivered by the organisation.

Volunteer Retail Assistants will be located primarily on the shop floor, dealing with queries, pricing items, using the till, and ensuring our shops are the best on the high street. Without you, we couldn't provide needed support to the York Animal Home, so we want to ensure you feel welcomed and supported. You will receive full training in all retail areas, with continued development available in your volunteer journey. If you’re looking to gain confidence to get back into work, or simply want to find somewhere to make connections, we have a role for you.

Every single penny raised in our charity shop goes directly to the York Animal Home and gives vital funds to ensure they can continue helping animals in need. Without your help our shops could not run; volunteers are what make us special and we would love to have you join our team.

• Giving a warm and friendly welcome as people enter our shop
• Helping with queries about items
• Putting cash and card sales through our till
• Engaging visitors about our charity and promoting the York Animal Home and our links to it
