Cards for Bravery is a volunteer-led charity dedicated to improving the emotional wellbeing of hospitalised, seriously ill and chronically ill children and young people across the UK. We provide a range of services including the distribution of items such as handmade cards, activity packs, care packages and other initiatives designed to bring comfort, connection and support during difficult times.

As we continue to grow, we're looking for a passionate and organised Volunteer Lead to help coordinate and support our incredible volunteer community.

This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in the charity by helping recruit, welcome and support volunteers, ensuring they have a positive experience while contributing to our mission. Working closely with the Founder and the wider team, you'll help build an engaged, motivated and connected volunteer community, enabling us to reach even more children, young people and families.

A DBS Check will be required for this role, completed by the charity.

Candidates must hold a relevant laptop/tablet or other IT device to complete this role.

Any relevant expenses will be reimbursed.

Time commitment: Approx. 4-6 hours per week (flexible)

The role will include activities such as:

• Supporting the recruitment, onboarding and induction of new volunteers.

• Being a first point of contact for volunteer enquiries and providing ongoing support throughout their volunteering journey.

• Developing and maintaining a digital volunteer hub, ensuring volunteers have access to resources, updates, guidance and opportunities.

• Assist organising volunteer communications, including updates, newsletters and online meetings or catch-ups.

• Maintaining volunteer records and helping monitor volunteer engagement and involvement.

• Working with the Founder to identify volunteer needs and support the growth of our volunteer team.

• Helping to recognise, celebrate and thank volunteers for their contributions.

• Sharing ideas and feedback to continually improve the volunteer experience at Cards for Bravery.

Summary

The Sussex Area of the Ramblers has two Countryside Officers, one for East Sussex and one for West Sussex. The main activity in the role is to act on behalf of members where a planning development is likely to have an adverse impact on the walking environment in the Sussex countryside.

Description

The Ramblers, the Sussex Area of which celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2026, is the only charity dedicated to removing barriers so everyone can enjoy walking in green spaces, and to improving Britain’s most popular and least-known walking places. We’re committed to campaigning to keep our footpaths open to all and to fighting for the things that matter most to walkers. We lead the way, and the walks, for a vibrant community united by the joys of walking, helping everyone get more out of their walks. 

The role of East Sussex Area Countryside Officer involves reviewing planning applications published by Local Authorities and creating and submitting objections on behalf of Sussex Ramblers if an application is likely to have an adverse impact on the Sussex countryside and the places where people walk. Objections may be expressed in writing through a response to the planning process, but could also involve site visits and on occasion attendance at public hearings or meetings with representatives of Local Authorities or with other stakeholders such as Parish Councils and environmental and wildlife organisations.

The role holder will work closely with other Ramblers volunteers such as the East Sussex Area Footpath Officer, the West Sussex Area Countryside Officer and Local Footpath Wardens in East Sussex and where necessary will seek advice and guidance from Ramblers' Central Office. Other main contacts include the Local Authorities, Parish/Town Councils, the South Downs National Park Authority and the East Sussex Local Access Forum. The role holder will be a member of the Area leadership team (Area Council). You will need to be a member of the Ramblers and to live in or close to East Sussex.

By volunteering as an Area Countryside Officer you will be playing a vital role in making sure we can achieve this by holding Local Authorities to account for planning decisions, and helping to ensure that our countryside and the places people walk, essential to health and wellbeing, are safeguarded.

Skills and Experience Required

You should have a passion for walking and for the preservation and protection of the natural beauty of the countryside and the special qualities of urban space, and a good knowledge of the county. Experience and knowledge of the Local Authorities' planning process is not essential but would be an advantage. The role is suitable for someone who is highly reliable, organised, capable of taking initiative and with an ability to articulate strategic issues clearly in written and spoken form. A desire and ability to work in a team environment is essential. You will also need to be comfortable using a computer and the internet, and managing information.

Befriender Volunteers play a key role in supporting individuals as they move on from our services and begin to live more independently. This role helps individuals stay connected, build stability, and feel confident in their next steps. Volunteers provide emotional support, practical assistance, and companionship to help people achieve their personal goals and stay engaged with their community.

What you will be doing

• Carry out regular check-ins—via phone, online, or in person—to help service users feel supported after leaving the service. Provide friendly visits where appropriate, offering a listening ear and encouragement during the transition to independent living
• Support individuals to build links within their local community, such as identifying clubs, social groups, local activities, or places of interest based on their personal goals.
• Encourage service users to take part in community events and build social connections that promote long-term wellbeing.
• Accompany service users to view potential properties where needed. Provide assistance exploring practical items or resources they may need after moving on, such as furniture options, budgeting tools, or local amenities.
• support service users to attend GP or other health appointments, helping reduce anxiety and build confidence in navigating services.
• Help individuals develop social skills, communication skills, and confidence through positive interactions and gentle encouragement. Providing motivation and reassurance as they work towards independent living goals.
• Support service users to access and participate in our online activities, helping them build digital confidence and stay connected. Assist with basic digital navigation, where needed (e.g., joining online groups, using communication platforms, accessing resources).

The Role

As a volunteer Maker/ Engineer with practical skills, you will design and build custom equipment /adaptations using materials such as wood, metal, plastic, or electronics. Previous solutions/adaptations designed by REMAP volunteers have included: adapted handles, specialist supports, modified furniture, access aids and other one-off items designed around a person’s individual needs. In this role, you will volunteer directly with clients to understand their needs and create anything from simple adaptations to fully bespoke devices. You will also take part in regular branch meetings, case discussions approximately every 6 weeks, and occasional home visits. Each project matches your skills, availability, and location.

You should be able and willing to travel within and around at least one of these areas:Littlehampton, Worthing, Brighton, Eastbourne, Bexhill, Hastings, Horsham, and surrounding areas.

How does it work?

•  You will be expected to volunteer for one full school term (10-12 weeks)

If you have space in your home and heart, for a guide dog mum who will be bringing the next generation of guide dogs in the world, then this could be the role for you! A role where you can care and nurture for a guide dog mum and plenty of little puppies when they arrive. 

This role is available in areas of Berkshire, South Buckinghamshire, and Oxfordshire.

What you’ll be doing: 

• Providing a loving home for a guide dog mum who will be at least 12 months old, for around six years whilst they are in the breeding programme (with the option to re-home after this, once the guide dog mum retires at around 7 years-old.) 
• Giving a guide dog mum the care and support that our canine companions need, like feeding and grooming.
• Creating a safe environment for the guide dog mum when they are giving birth within your home and helping with the birth of future guide dogs, which usually happens once a year. (You don’t need any previous experience of breeding or having dogs – we have expert staff who will help you!) 
• Providing care and support for the newborn puppies for at least 6 weeks while they are still in the nest, including socialising them to the new sounds and first-time experiences in your home.

Can I care for a guide dog mum? 

If you want to care for a guide dog mum, here's what we ideally look for:

• A loving home with a secure garden.
• Access to a car, to support with any appointments needed for the guide dog mum.
• Live within an hour’s drive of the National Centre in Leamington Spa.

Guide dog mums can happily live with other dogs or children, however we wouldn’t place them with a male dog that has not been neutered. To determine whether you are suitable, we will conduct a home visit as part of the application process.

Volunteering for Guide Dogs should never leave you out of pocket. We’ll make sure we pay any pre-agreed expenses related to the litter or your volunteering with us, including veterinary costs, food costs or any specialist breeding equipment.  All you may need to buy is a bed and grooming equipment.

Rocky Road Rescue (Registered Charity 1198638) is a British charity helping dogs and cats in need in Romania by finding them homes here in the United Kingdom. 

We’re entirely volunteer-run meaning all the money we raise goes towards helping animals.

We need help homechecking prospective adopters! This is a fully remote role and we only ask that you commit a minimum of 3 hours a week for a minimum of 6 months.

You’re a clear communicator and loves meeting new people - the Homechecker meets prospective adopters at a key point of their journey.

You’ll be comfortable using whatsapp, google meet or equivalent to conduct video homecheck calls, following a script to check the adopters’ home set-up and make sure they understand what Romania rescues are like.

We expect that you will represent us in a professional, supportive and friendly manner, giving an unbiased summary of your conversation and a clear recommendation for or against adoption.

Your homecheck write ups will be clear and concise so the Directors can understand each adopters individual strengths and any potential challenges.

Love of cats and/or dogs essential!

In return, we will provide you with training and a friendly team of volunteers and directors to learn from and are happy to provide references attesting to your contribution to our charity.

We are looking for volunteers to help with our social media. We want to massively improve and increase our content from TikTok to You Tube. So much goes into social media from the physical filming and scripts to making the small everyday promotional posts to bigger videos, editing and posting them. We need people to help with every aspect of social media  But don’t panic we are not asking one person to do all of this! So keep reading....

Volunteers are integral to the running of our reserves and without their help we wouldn’t be able to maintain this amazing wetland of national importance. WWT Slimbridge consists of over 325 acres of stunning habitat, providing refuge for a huge diversity of animals and plants. The reserve and its wetlands have international protection, including a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI), a Ramsar site, and a Special Protection Area.

Managing a large wetland nature reserve requires a lot of practical, hands-on, physical tasks. With training and guidance, you will become part of our friendly and hard-working reserves volunteer team. Your role will be to provide regular support for all practical reserves management, including maintaining and restoring various habitats to attract migratory birds and help improve species biodiversity on site. You will ensure that our reserve grounds are maintained to the highest standard for wildlife and that they look their best for visitors, encouraging their engagement and support for our vital work!

This is a fantastic opportunity to get involved in practical nature conservation, meet new like-minded people and become part of a dedicated team, and make a difference by helping to maintain our important wetlands.

Volunteers are an essential part of the WWT team, and we wouldn’t be able to maintain our internationally important wetland sites without their help. You will receive a very warm welcome, full induction & training, and be provided with any necessary equipment, uniforms, and anything else needed to thrive in your role.

We are looking for a volunteer to facilitate a Men’s group in a local cafe. The group provides a safe, welcoming place for people to meet, share experiences and support each other’s growth whilst connecting over board games.

What you will be doing

• Meet service users in a local Cafe every Thursday from 11-12pm to play board games and facilitate discussions
• Create a supportive environment for men to connect, share experiences, and empower each other
• To negotiate/facilitate conflicts or disagreements that may arise during group meetings.

The skills you need

• Ability to create and maintain a safe environment where participants’ thoughts and feelings are valued, and group members are treated with fairness, equity and respect
• Experience of facilitating groups.
• Strong listening and communication skills
