Our fundraising events organisers have the exciting and varied role of helping plan and deliver local fundraising events to raise the vital funds needed to help cats. Legal Assistant

We are a Kingston-based social marketing enterprise using creative thinking to build community cohesion.

About the position

Quilombo UK is looking to recruit a Legal Assistant who helps organization in various legal matters.

Main Responsibilities

• We are looking for an experienced lawyer to assist the organisation in overlooking projects, ensuring they are compliant with relevant and up to date legislation and regulations.

• The legal assistant will be responsible for making sure all contracts, legislations and documents are treated within correct legal standards. They are to make sure that all activities are being performed in line with contracts and the law. 

• The Legal Assistant will work closely with the HR department in overlooking the volunteer forms, legislations and documents. They should also assist the different departments within the organisation(Marketing, Funding, HR, Finance) in upholding the legal requirements needed to run the tasks that they do. 

• Provide written reports as and when required. To undertake additional duties as required for the role.

The Professional Development Programme with Quilombo UK is a 16-week UNPAID opportunity that requires a minimum commitment of 12 hours per week, Monday to Friday.

As a Sighted Guide, you may be asked to:

• Meet and welcome attendees on arrival.
• Guide attendees between the train station and the conference venue.
• Guide individuals between conference rooms, refreshment areas, lunch areas, and other facilities.
• Assist attendees with fetching food and drinks during breaks and lunch.
• Provide information about the venue layout and surroundings.
• Support attendees to ensure they have a positive, inclusive, and accessible conference experience.

No previous experience is required, and guidance will be provided before the event. By volunteering, you will play an important role in helping all delegates participate fully and enjoy the conference.

Please note: Lunch will be provided for all volunteers and reasonable travel expenses will be covered.

This role involves supporting at a range of events to help raise money and awareness to tackle the housing emergency. It’s a really flexible opportunity. Once you’re signed up, we’ll let you know about upcoming events and tasks, and you can decide which you’d like to do.

Suggested contribution: It’s up to you! Ideally, you’d help out at least 4-5 times per year, but this is flexible.

The Society of Evidence Based Policing is looking for an additional trustee to join its board, with a particular focus on legal expertise.

SEBP is a registered UK charity that exists to improve policing for the public through the use, production and communication of evidence based practices in policing. We’ve been around since 2012 and although we’re run by and for police personnel, we’re an entirely independent grassroots organisation. You can learn more about our work at our website.

Our board provides governance, oversight, and strategic direction as the organisation grows.

Why we’re recruiting

We are strengthening the board for two reasons. First, resilience: an additional trustee helps ensure meetings remain quorate and decision-making robust when one or two trustees are unavailable. Second, expertise: we would particularly value a trustee with a legal background, ideally in charity and organisational law, to support good governance as SEBP develops.

The role

As a trustee you would:

• Contribute to the strategic direction and good governance of the charity
• Provide advice and scrutiny on organisational, charitable, and compliance matters
• Bring legal perspective to board decisions and emerging issues
• Act as an ambassador for SEBP and its mission

This is an unpaid, voluntary position; reasonable expenses are covered. The board currently meets once every other month, remotely and occasionally in person. Beyond meetings, we would expect occasional ad-hoc input between sessions — for example, a view on a specific governance or legal question — but the overall commitment is modest and manageable alongside a professional role.

You don’t need prior policing or trustee experience. We are interested in hearing from people who:

• Bring legal expertise, particularly in charity law, organisational governance, or employment law
• Are committed to SEBP’s mission of evidence-based policing

Your Mission: What You’ll Do

As our founding Fundraising Lead, you will sit on our core Founding Committee, guiding a small task force of 3–4 volunteers to build SUNSHINE’s financial pipeline.

You will work side-by-side with the Founder to:

• Target Canary Wharf & the City: Build relationships with corporate sustainability teams and tech startups across the financial districts to pitch SUNSHINE for Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) partnerships, office fundraising days, or payroll giving.
• Secure Gifts-in-Kind: Approach local businesses, printers, and retailers to secure essential physical donations—including arts and crafts stationery, marketing print runs, clothing, or venue space for indoor winter socials
• Write the Grants: Lead the charge on researching and submitting punchy, data-driven applications for small trust funds and local micro-grants (like the National Lottery Awards for All or local council pots).
• Activate Community Giving: Manage our public digital giving platforms (like JustGiving or Buy Me A Coffee) and promote our Amazon Charity Wishlist so everyday donors can fund physical event gear easily.

• Collecting data for Gift Aid and marketing purposes, including how visitors found out about us.
• Creating positive experiences to encourage return visits and word-of-mouth recommendations.
• Helping visitors explore the Museum through interpretation, answering questions and distributing trails, accessibility and family activities.
• Maintaining the gift shop, including restocking, counting stock, and setting up attractive displays.
• Conducting online research and building contact lists to support marketing efforts.
• Promoting the Museum locally, raising awareness and encouraging more visitors to discover what we have to offer!

Who we’re looking for:

We’d like to extend an invitation to anyone, particularly members of the local community.  Full training will be provided, we are looking for anyone with:

• Great customer service skills – you will be friendly and confident about approaching visitors of all ages and backgrounds
• Great communication skills – you will be able to clearly explain information about the Museum and ticketing to visitors
• Good computer skills – with training, you will be able to use our ticketing system, email and Microsoft Office
• Good Sales Skills – you will be able to promote ticket sales and gift shop items as well as encouraging Gift Aid donations
• Multitasking skills – with various responsibilities such as selling tickets, guiding visitors, and managing the gift shop, you will be able to juggle tasks efficiently
• A good telephone manner
• Good team working skills

This role offers plenty of variety, and you'll play an important part in making every visitor's experience unforgettable.

Training and support:

All volunteers will first be invited for a training shift.  We have an induction and training process, during which we give volunteers the information they need to enjoy their time with us. Training is mainly 'on the job', supported by an experienced volunteer as well as the manager on duty. Volunteers are given regular feedback and we remain open to suggestions on how we can improve the volunteer experience. The Admissions Assistant receives continued training and development throughout their time with us.

Availability:

We are looking for volunteers who would ideally like to donate 2-4 shifts per month, weekdays or weekends, either as a 10-1.30pm shift, or a 1.30-5pm shift, for a minimum of 3 months. Ideally, you will be able to start immediately, although this is not essential. Travel expenses up to £5 will be paid, with up to an additional £5 for lunch expenses if you are on a full day shift.

Please note: Applicants from some overseas countries are required to have a relevant work permit or student visa to volunteer in the U.K. We’ll need to see this for our records before volunteering can commence.

It's a fantastic opportunity to meet new people, gain valuable event experience, build your CV and make a real difference while supporting people affected by lung cancer. 

Whether you're welcoming participants, helping our spooky activity stalls, stewarding around the park, or simply bringing plenty of enthusiasm and smiles, you'll play a vital role in making the day unforgettable.

Assisting in the Bugfest Beauty Parlour 

Handing out snacks and treats to our visitors or supporting participants and stewarding around the event. No previous experience is needed-just enthusiasm and a friendly smile. 

The event opens to the public at 10.45am. Volunteers are kindly asked to arrive at 9.00am to help with set up, meet the team and take part in a full briefing.
