Volunteer Role: Community Group Volunteer

Location: Across Wales

Frequency: A few hours once a month

Reporting to: Adoption Community Manager

Safeguarding: Enhanced DBS

Community groups are facilitated face to face or virtual meetings/events run by community group coordinators who are volunteers. The groups are run to offer local networking, support, information, advice, guidance and a sense of community for adoption UK members.

The role of a community group coordinator is to plan, organise, facilitate and network meeting and events both face to face and virtually for local adoption UK members. 

The groups are open to prospective adopters/ adopters awaiting a match and adopters with children. Meet ups are often held monthly although the frequency is dependent on the availability of the community group coordinator. 

What you will be doing   

·Plan dates for the community group meetings.

·Inform the Community officer and manager so the admin and booking link can be created for the group.

·Attend the group meetings, welcome the attendees, remind everyone at the start of the meeting about safeguarding and confidentiality, chair the meeting and provide a listening ear and potential signposting to the attendees.

·Ensure Adoption UK’s safeguarding policies and procedures are followed.

·After the meeting, send an attendance list to staff at Adoption UK.

About South Tyneside Adult Recovery Services (STARS)

South Tyneside Adult Recovery Service is the alcohol and drug service in South Tyneside for adults.

South Tyneside Adult Recovery Service is open Monday to Friday 9.00 am - 4.45 pm.

About the role:

• Provide a welcoming meet and greet service to people attending STARS 

• Answer internal phone calls

• Replenish leaflets / resources 

• Create and maintain displays in the waiting area / rooms 

• Copying / printing resources for colleagues

About you:

Due to the location of the printer, applicants will need to be able to walk up and down a flight of stairs to access the printer/copier.

The service is open 9am – 5pm so the role would take place during these hours. 

Confident IT skills as there are mandatory training modules to complete online. 

Applicants must have excellent verbal communication skills, be professional, able to maintain professional boundaries and adhere to Waythrough policies.

Experience of volunteering / working in an admin / reception / customer service role would be desirable.

To have a caring, patient and empathetic nature.

Ability to remain calm and focused in a busy environment.

Our shops sell a mixture of donated items, including clothes, books, bric-a-brac and collectables, and a selection of new items.  Do you enjoy driving and are available at weekends? Would you like to make a difference to a lady people we support in your community? 

We are looking for a friendly driver to help a lady we support in Calne to attend Down syndrome synchro swimming sessions in Windsor.This driving role will involve an afternoon pick up and evening return, every other Saturday.

Activities will include: 

• Driving the lady we support between her home in Calne to the Swimming pool in Windsor.  

• Driving this journey every other Saturday, with a pick-up time of 3pm and an average return time of 10pm. 

• Being available to wait at the pool so you can make the return trip 

• Driving with the use of your own car

• Driving in a manner that is sensitive of physical and emotional requirements of the lady we support. 

• You will always be accompanied by a trained support worker 

We are looking for drivers who: 

• Are aged 21 or over, with at least 2 years driving experience 

• Hold a full, clean and current UK Driving License (or equivalent) 

• Have the ability to understand verbal and written instructions in relation to journeys 

• Are friendly with the people we support and our support staff 

• Are willing to commit to volunteer regularly (every other weekend, times to be agreed) 

 A DBS check and two character references will be required for this role.

As a Community First Aider, you’ll deliver first aid to those in need through local events, as well as provide education to the public so that the ripple effect of First Aid grows.

 Volunteer Opportunity: Change a Life with Just 30 Minutes a Week 

Are you friendly, chatty, and committed to making a difference?

We’re looking for volunteers to give just 30 minutes a week from home to speak with older people (aged 75+) who are feeling isolated and lonely. These weekly phone calls have been proven to transform lives - not just for those receiving them, but for volunteers too.

You’ll receive full training and ongoing support from Re-engage, a charity dedicated to reducing loneliness among older people.

Become a Call Companion

Our Call Companion service connects a volunteer with an older person, aged 75 or over, who is experiencing loneliness and isolation. As a Call Companion volunteer, you’ll make a regular phone call, typically once a week, to foster friendship, enjoyment and conversation.

This role description sets out the aims and expectations of the role, your responsibilities and Re-engage’s commitment to supporting you as a volunteer.

Your role:

• Call the older person you’ve been matched with for approximately 20-30 minutes, usually once a week.
• Provide companionship over the phone by talking about interests, experiences and by providing a listening ear.
• Maintain the boundaries set out in our training and report any concerns to Re-engage.
• Keep your knowledge and training up to date by reading our volunteer newsletter – Re-engage Matters – sent monthly by email.

To become a Call Companion you’ll need to:

• Complete an induction – you might choose to attend a group induction or watch our pre-recorded video.
• Submit an ID check – you’ll need either a passport, driving licence, national insurance number or national identity card to do this.
• Provide a character reference – your referee can be an employer, a colleague, a friend, neighbour or community representative.
• Complete online training – these modules will help you get the most out of the role and take approximately one hour to complete.

Practical details:

• A flexible, homebased volunteering role that fits around your availability.
• No personal details are ever shared with your match, with calls made via our secure befriending platform.
• To keep our services free for older people, we can’t pay expenses for this role.
• You’ll be over 18 and able to commit to 12 months of volunteering (approximately 26 hours over a year).
