What you'll be a part of
At MensCraft, we enable men and boys to feel connected, valued, and able to live with purpose. We support men to navigate complex challenges, build resilience, and embrace healthy masculinity through tailored, non-judgemental, male-focussed services across Norfolk and Waveney.

Role purpose
To deliver high-quality, gender-informed counselling or psychotherapy to adult men experiencing mild to moderate emotional and mental health challenges.

The impact you’ll make
Men face unique barriers and costs when seeking therapy. As a Volunteer Counsellor, you will provide an authentic, male-informed space to help men build healthy alternatives to damaging coping strategies—reducing distress, preventing crisis, and reconnecting men with their communities.

What you will do

• Deliver weekly 1:1 sessions (online or in person).
• Provide an authentic, confidential, and non-judgemental space tailored to each man.
• Maintain short, accurate session records, and organise your sessions, via our practice management software. 
• Adhere to professional ethics and MensCraft policies.
• Promptly raise any safeguarding concerns to the service manager.
• Attend regular supervision and a monthly service meeting.

What we are looking for

• Fully qualified therapist (Diploma Level 4+) OR a diploma trainee approved for placement.
• Open to all therapeutic backgrounds and modalities.
• Registered member (or student member) of a recognised body (e.g., BACP, NCPS, UKCP).
• Minimum 2 client hours weekly, plus time for admin, supervision, and monthly meetings.
• Enhanced DBS check (arranged and funded by MensCraft).

Meet and Greet Volunteer (Tea & Coffee Service)

About the Role

We are looking for a friendly, welcoming, and compassionate volunteer to support people accessing our mental health service. As a Meet and Greet Volunteer, you will be one of the first points of contact for visitors, helping to create a warm, safe, and supportive environment.

The role also includes serving tea, coffee, and refreshments to service users, carers, visitors, and staff, helping to promote a sense of community and wellbeing within the service.

Key Responsibilities

• Welcome service users, visitors, carers, and staff in a friendly and professional manner.
• Help people feel comfortable and supported when they arrive at the service.
• Offer directions and information about facilities within the building.
• Prepare and serve tea, coffee, and light refreshments.
• Maintain a clean, tidy, and welcoming refreshment area.
• Engage in friendly conversation and provide a listening ear where appropriate.
• Promote an inclusive and non-judgemental atmosphere for everyone.
• Report any concerns or issues to the appropriate member of staff.

Monday to Friday (any day welcome) 2 to 4pm (However happy to consider mornings in our High Wycombe hostel Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays)

We are looking for a friendly and reliable Resident Engagement Support Volunteer to help create a welcoming and positive environment for residents living in our accommodation in Welwyn Garden City, Hatfied and High Wycombe hostels.

This is a flexible role that will begin with a focus on befriending and social connection. Volunteers will help open the residents’ café, serve teas and coffees, and spend time chatting with residents to help build rapport and reduce social isolation.

As confidence and relationships develop, the role can be shaped around the volunteer’s interests, skills and ideas. We welcome volunteers who may wish to support additional activities such as games, quizzes, crafts, wellbeing activities, cooking sessions, or sharing practical life skills.

No specialist experience is required - just a warm approach, good listening skills and a willingness to engage with people.

Key Responsibilities

· Opening and helping run the residents’ café during the afternoon session.

· Preparing and serving teas, coffees and refreshments.

· Offering a friendly welcome to residents.

· Spending time talking with residents and building positive relationships.

· Encouraging residents to take part in social activities, signposting to staff where additional support is needed.

· Supporting or helping to organise simple activities such as board games, crafts or quizzes.

· Sharing personal skills or hobbies where appropriate (for example cooking, baking or creative activities).

· Co-designing activities based on resident feedback and interest

· Work alongside staff to create a safe, inclusive, and positive environment for residents.

Training / Support

· A full induction to the service and specific site will be provided.

· Requirement to undertake One YMCA online training courses, including safeguarding; Health & Safety Awareness and Manual Handling where appropriate.

We value volunteer development, and as part of this role your can develop your skills further by training to become a till user alongside your regular shop volunteer responsibilities, or progressing into a Key volunteer, a role which includes opening, running, and closing the shop in the absence of the manager.

Due to the nature of the role, we require all applicants to be aged 16 or over. You must have a UK address to volunteer with Sense.

Key responsibilities: Shop volunteer 

You’ll spend time doing a range of activities, including:

• Welcoming and assisting customers, providing great customer service, helping create a wonderful shopping experience.
• Receiving donated items from the public, thanking them for their support.
• Sorting, steaming and preparing donations for sale.
• Helping to display stock in eye-catching and exciting ways.
• Keeping the shop floor clean, safe and tidy.
• Talking to customers about Sense and the work we do.

Key responsibilities: Till volunteer

Being a till volunteer includes all the same responsibilities as a shop volunteer, however, when you’re ready, we’ll provide you with additional training to:

• Serve customers on the till in a warm and friendly way.
• Put sales through the till, packing them and thanking the customer for shopping with us.
• Talk to customers about Gift Aid and other fundraising initiatives.

Key responsibilities: Key volunteer 

Being a Key volunteer includes all the same responsibilities as a shop and till volunteer. However, if you’re interested in taking on additional responsibilities, you can train to become a Key Volunteer, helping the shop manager by:

• Helping supervise the shop and other volunteers.
• Supporting the shop manager to make sure customers have a great experience.
• Opening and closing the shop when needed.
• Cashing up at the end of the day.

• Tuesdays, 2–3pm

About the Service

The Wellbeing Team at Age UK Sandwell supports people aged 50+ to improve their physical, mental and emotional wellbeing through social, physical and community activities. The service helps reduce loneliness and isolation by encouraging community connections, offering one-to-one support, befriending and signposting, and working with volunteers and local partners to help older people stay active, independent and connected.

About the Role

The volunteer for this social group will be responsible for facilitating weekly activity groups for older people. Specific tasks may include:

• To keep a record of attendance
• To facilitate the session on a weekly basis
• To prepare any resources and equipment required to deliver the group
• To report any concerns to your line manager
• To attend team meetings/supervision when required
• To help promote the group and encourage attendance from older people in the community

You will be supported by a staff member in the initial weeks to prepare you to run the group.

Training

· Role-specific training will be agreed with your line manager and delivered through a mix of digital and face-to-face sessions.

· You will also complete the Age UK Sandwell induction programme and any additional training relevant to your role.
