More than one in five people in the UK are living in poverty. Millions of households are struggling to afford essentials, falling behind on bills or going without food. Financial insecurity affects people across every part of society and remains one of the defining social challenges of our time.

At Turn2us, we believe poverty is not inevitable. Every year, we support millions of people to improve their financial security through practical help, direct support and long-term systems change. Working alongside people with lived experience, we combine immediate action with ambitious efforts to address the root causes of financial insecurity.

We are now seeking a Trustee to join our Board and serve as Chair of our Finance, Investment and Audit Committee and Honorary Treasurer.

This is a significant governance leadership role at an important point in Turn2us’s journey. As we look towards our next strategic chapter, the Board will play a vital role in balancing long-term ambition with strong financial stewardship and governance. Turn2us is well positioned, with a diversified asset base including property and investments, alongside Elizabeth Finn Homes, our care home business, which contributes around one-third of the charity’s income.

We are looking for a qualified accountant with substantial experience of financial leadership, governance and risk oversight. Experience within the charity sector would be valuable, as would familiarity with areas such as investment management, property, social housing or care services.

Alongside technical expertise, we are seeking someone who brings sound judgement, curiosity, humility and a collaborative approach. You will provide constructive challenge and strategic insight, helping the Board and executive team navigate an increasingly complex financial environment while ensuring the organisation remains focused on delivering impact for people facing financial insecurity.

Our Trustees come from a broad range of professional and personal backgrounds. We are committed to building a Board that reflects the communities we serve and particularly welcome applications from people with lived experience of financial insecurity and those from communities currently underrepresented at Board level.

Time commitment

The Chair of the Finance, Investment & Audit Committee is expected to commit ten days per year on average, including preparation for and attendance at quarterly in-person board meetings (held in our London office), subcommittees and occasional strategy sessions.

Women on the Frontline Ministries (WOFM) is a registered charity supporting women who have experienced domestic abuse, sexual exploitation through street-based prostitution, trafficking and other vulnerabilities. We offer outreach, a weekly drop-in, casework and relationship-based support to women who are too often neglected and stigmatised. We are looking for an experienced, motivated volunteer fundraiser to help us grow our income, raise awareness of the women we serve, and make sure this work can continue.

The role

As our Volunteer Fundraiser, you will help shape and deliver our fundraising strategy and turn it into real income. You will be a key part of securing the resources that sustain and grow our frontline support for women. This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys both planning and doing — and who wants their skills to count for something that matters.

What you'll do

• Help develop and deliver WOFM’s fundraising strategy and annual income goals.

• Research and identify funding opportunities — grants, trusts, foundations, corporate partners and community giving.

• Support the writing and submission of compelling funding applications and proposals.

• Help plan and run fundraising initiatives, appeals and awareness campaigns.

• Build and nurture relationships with donors, supporters and local partners.

• Help raise the profile of WOFM and the plight of the women we serve.

• Work closely with the Board and team to track progress and report on results.

Job description

The Pastoral and Environmental Network in the Horn of Africa (PENHA) is an African-led and inspired charity, established in 1989.  Its mission is to reduce poverty among the pastoralists in the Horn of Africa through the empowerment of communities and to foster sustainable and dignified livestock-based and non-livestock-based livelihoods. In the UK, it works with the Horn diaspora community through youth mentoring and leadership programmes. 

PENHA’s Aims and Objectives

• Sustainable livelihoods require a coordinated approach at the grassroots and policy levels. PENHA, therefore, commits itself to two goals:
• The social, cultural and economic integration of pastoral and agro-pastoral communities in the Horn of Africa
• Dynamic, diversified and sustainable pastoral and agro-pastoral livelihoods, with expanded access to information, technology, education and training
• A full and equal role for pastoral and agro-pastoralist women in public and economic life
• Peacebuilding and conflict prevention
• Development of links with the diaspora in the UK

PENHA has a team in the London Office and country chapters in the Horn of Africa region – in Ethiopia and Somaliland but works with partners in Sudan, Eritrea and Uganda as well as international partners outside the Horn of Africa.

In the UK, PENHA has a Board of Trustees, a number of research associates, volunteers and an international Advisory Group. PENHA Board of Trustees is looking for three trustees to join the London-based Board with experience in one of the following areas:

• A legal background, with financial and risk management experience;
• Knowledge of branding, marketing and fundraising, including the use of social media;
• Knowledge of the charity sector and employment law in the UK.

In addition, candidates should have an understanding of the context within which charities operate, ideally with some experience of the Horn of Africa region.

The post is unpaid and the time commitment is four to six meetings per year, with attendance at other occasional meetings and events as a representative of the charity.

The Board is responsible for submitting the Annual Report and Accounts to the Charity Commission and to Companies House. As a small charity, trustees contribute actively as part of a team in giving firm strategic direction to the organisation, setting overall policy, defining goals, setting targets and evaluating performance against agreed targets. PENHA is currently undergoing a new strategy development process and the candidate will help steer the organisation through the challenges ahead.

In addition, Board members are responsible for:

• Ensuring that the organisation complies with its constitution/memorandum and articles of association, charity law, company law and any other relevant legislation or regulations
• Ensuring that the organisation pursues its objects as defined in its governing document
• Ensuring that the organisation applies its resources exclusively in pursuance of its objects
• Safeguarding the good name and values of the organisation
• Ensuring the effective and efficient administration of the organisation
• Ensuring the financial stability of the organisation
• Protecting and managing the property of the organisation, and to ensure the proper investment of the organisation’s funds
• Appointing the senior staff and  monitoring their performance

What you will be doing

• Supervise and motivate a team of volunteers.

• Support the recruitment and induction of new volunteers as required.

• Oversee and delegate tasks to ensure the smooth running of the food bank warehouse.

• Uphold safeguarding, health and safety and hygiene policies, reporting any concerns to your Main Contact.

• Ensure food bank policies and procedures are followed.

• Create a welcoming, caring and friendly atmosphere for volunteers and people coming to the centre.

• Lead a volunteer debrief at the end of each session.

• Attend team leader meetings as required.

• Regularly report to your Main Contact / Food bank Project Manager.

Neuroverse Community CIC supports disabled and neurodivergent young people aged 12–16 who are unable to access school. We deliver LAMDA drama, Science and neuro-affirming education in Nailsworth and Stroud, Gloucestershire — as a registered LAMDA Private Examination Centre.

Our disabled and neurodivergent Founder is an ex-Charity Director, multi-award-winning education professional, former SENDCO and LAMDA Grade 8 holder. She has personally founded, run and delivered Neuroverse for 2 years, entirely voluntarily.

We are now looking for an inspiring and committed Head of Volunteering to help us build our volunteering programme from the ground up. This is a key role in shaping the future of SUNSHINE and creating a vibrant, welcoming and supportive volunteer community that reflects our values and mission.

Our Volunteer Opportunity

This role is about much more than volunteer coordination. It is about creating a strong culture of belonging, team spirit and shared purpose. You will help us recruit, onboard, support and retain volunteers, while ensuring they feel appreciated, confident and empowered to contribute meaningfully to our work.

You will play a central role in developing a volunteering programme that goes above and beyond good practice — one that feels positive, uplifting and genuinely rewarding for everyone involved. From first welcome to ongoing support, you will help create a volunteer experience that feels like joining a caring, motivated family with a shared mission to change lives.
