Job description

DATA PROTECTION OFFICER (GDPR Lead) x3 — SUNSHINE Charity

Guard our data. Protect our people. Keep the sunshine safe.

Be the guardian of trust at the heart of SUNSHINE

SUNSHINE Charity is a joyful, human‑driven movement tackling loneliness through connection, kindness and community. To do this safely, we handle sensitive personal data — names, addresses, contact details, wellbeing information, and sometimes mental‑health‑related disclosures.

We’re now recruiting three Data Protection Officers (GDPR Leads) to help us build a gold‑standard culture of privacy, safety and respect. If you’re passionate about protecting people, love clarity and compliance, and want to help a charity grow with integrity, this role is a perfect fit.

Why this role matters

Data protection isn’t just paperwork — it’s trust. It’s dignity. It’s safety. As a GDPR Lead, you’ll ensure SUNSHINE strictly adheres to UK GDPR, the Data Protection Act 2018, and ICO standards. You’ll help us register with the ICO, maintain compliance, and embed strong data‑protection practices across the charity.

Your work ensures that every volunteer, participant and partner knows their information is handled with care, respect and professionalism.

Key duties will include

  • Lead on UK GDPR compliance across all systems, processes and volunteer activities.

  • Ensure safe handling of sensitive personal data, including wellbeing and mental‑health‑related information.

  • Register SUNSHINE with the ICO and maintain ongoing compliance as a member.

  • Create and maintain data‑protection policies, privacy notices and retention schedules.

  • Advise volunteers and trustees on safe, lawful and ethical data handling.

  • Monitor risks and breaches, ensuring clear reporting and response procedures.

  • Champion a culture of privacy, dignity and respect across the charity.

Who you are

You'll bring:

  • A calm, structured, detail‑driven approach

  • Integrity, reliability and sound judgement

  • A passion for protecting people and their information

  • Experience of GDPR / UK Data Protection

  • Confidence in advising others and promoting good practice

  • A warm, human‑centred mindset aligned with SUNSHINE’s values

What you’ll be part of

SUNSHINE is built on joy, humanity and community spirit. You’ll join a team that is:

  • Supportive

  • Passionate

  • Ambitious

  • Heart‑led

  • Dedicated to making London a kinder, more connected place

You’ll help create a charity where people feel safe sharing their stories, their details and their experiences — knowing they’re protected by strong, ethical data practices.

Ready to help us shine safely?

If you want to use your skills to protect a joyful, human‑driven charity — we’d love to welcome you into the SUNSHINE family.

  • Step forward.
  • Bring your clarity, your care, your commitment.
  • Help us build a charity where trust and joy go hand in hand.

Let’s make London brighter — and safer — together.
