Job description

Shine a Light on Loneliness — Become SUNSHINE’s Loneliness Awareness Manager

Volunteer Role: Loneliness Awareness Manager

Location: London (Community-Based, Flexible Hybrid)

Are you passionate about making sure no one suffers in silence? Do you believe loneliness deserves to be talked about, understood and tackled head‑on? SUNSHINE — a bold, start‑up grassroots loneliness charity in London — is looking for a dedicated, creative and compassionate volunteer to become our Loneliness Awareness Manager.

If you want to help change the conversation around loneliness and amplify the work we’re doing to combat it, this role is for you.

Who We Are

SUNSHINE is a small but ambitious start‑up charity on a mission to tackle loneliness and social isolation across London. We bring warmth, belonging and human connection through:

  • Weekly Coffee Mornings

  • Our Digital Inclusion & Skills Programme

  • Befriending support

  • Community events, workshops and more

We’re growing — and we need someone who can help us raise awareness of loneliness and shine a spotlight on the solutions we’re building.

Your Mission: Raise Awareness, Inspire Action, Change Perceptions

As our Loneliness Awareness Manager, you will play a vital role in helping London understand loneliness — what it is, why it matters, and how SUNSHINE is working to combat it.

You will:

  • Lead SUNSHINE’s loneliness awareness strategy.

  • Raise public understanding of loneliness and its impact.

  • Promote SUNSHINE’s programmes, services and community initiatives.

  • Create engaging awareness campaigns, events and content.

  • Build relationships with local organisations, community groups and partners.

  • Support our communications team with messaging and storytelling.

  • Help ensure loneliness is recognised as a serious, solvable issue.

Your work will help people feel seen, understood and supported — and will bring more people into the SUNSHINE community.

What You Bring

We’re a start‑up charity — so passion, creativity and initiative matter just as much as experience.

You’ll thrive in this role if you are:

  • A strong communicator who cares deeply about social issues.

  • Passionate about raising awareness and driving change.

  • Creative, proactive and full of ideas.

  • Comfortable speaking to groups, partners or the public.

  • Someone who loves connecting people and building understanding.

  • Excited by the chance to shape a new role from scratch.

If you’ve ever wanted to lead awareness work that genuinely changes lives, this is your opportunity.

What You’ll Gain

  • A unique chance to shape SUNSHINE’s public awareness work from day one.

  • Real experience in advocacy, public engagement and community outreach.

  • The freedom to innovate, experiment and build campaigns that matter.

  • A warm, supportive team who value your ideas and your wellbeing.

  • The deep fulfilment of helping people feel less alone.

Ready to Help London Understand Loneliness?

If this role excites you — even if you’re not sure you tick every box — we’d love to hear from you.

Join us in creating a London where no one feels forgotten, and where community truly means connection.

Apply today and help us shine a light on loneliness.
