Main Purpose of The Job:
The Warehouse Assistant will assist with the efficient management of donated goods, stock and warehouse facilities. This includes receiving donations, sorting and checking items, preparing stock for sale or distribution, maintaining accurate stock records and ensuring goods are stored safely and appropriately.
The postholder will also support the charity shop, baby bank, events and other WFRC services by ensuring stock and materials are available when required.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
- Receive, unload, sort and organise donated goods and other stock entering the warehouse.
- Check donated items for quality, condition, suitability and safety before storage or distribution.
- Sort and prepare items for the charity shop, baby bank, community projects, events or other WFRC services.
- Assist with stock control, stocktaking, record-keeping and monitoring of incoming and outgoing goods.
- Prepare and move stock between the warehouse, charity shop and other WFRC locations when required.
- Assist with loading and unloading deliveries and donated goods, following safe manual-handling procedures.
- Support the preparation of stock for charity shop sales, including cleaning, sorting, pricing or packing items where required.
- Identify damaged, unsuitable or unsafe items and report concerns to the Store Manager.
- Maintain a clean, tidy and safe working environment and follow health and safety, fire safety and manual-handling procedures.
- Work closely with staff and volunteers, providing support and clear instructions when carrying out warehouse tasks.
- Support the Store Manager with general operational and administrative tasks relating to stock and warehouse activities.
- Deal politely and professionally with donors, suppliers, staff, volunteers and members of the public.
- Maintain confidentiality and follow WFRC's charitable aims, policies and procedures, including safeguarding and data protection requirements.
- Report any concerns, incidents, stock discrepancies or operational issues promptly to the Store Manager.
Education & Knowledge:
- Basic understanding of warehouse, stock handling or retail operations would be advantageous.
- Awareness of health and safety and safe manual-handling practices.
- Understanding of the importance of confidentiality, safeguarding and professional conduct.
- Basic understanding of stock control and record-keeping.
Experience:
- Experience of working in a warehouse, charity shop, retail, stockroom or similar environment is desirable.
- Experience of handling, sorting or organising stock or donated goods.
- Experience of working with staff, volunteers or members of the public.
- Experience of working as part of a team and following instructions.
- Experience of maintaining accurate records or completing basic stock documentation would be advantageous.

- Ability to remain calm, helpful and professional when dealing with challenging situations.
- Ability to work flexibly and respond to changing operational priorities.
- Ability to work with and support volunteers in a positive and respectful manner.
- Physically able to undertake reasonable warehouse duties, including standing, lifting and moving stock, with reasonable adjustments considered where appropriate.
