At Mary’s Youth Club, we believe in joyful, creative spaces where young people aged 10–19  can grow, thrive, and feel like they truly belong. We're proud of our vibrant, inclusive community – and we’re looking for passionate volunteers to help keep it strong and sustainable. 

We’re inviting community-minded individuals to join our Fundraising Working Group. This is a hands-on, action-focused volunteer team (not a trustee role!) that supports the financial stability of Mary’s by helping to shape and deliver fundraising initiatives throughout the year. 

You’ll be working alongside our Business Operations Manager, with support from the CEO, trustees, and the wider fundraising volunteer group, to bring energy and fresh ideas to everything from annual events and community campaigns to grant applications and local partnerships. 

What You’ll Be Doing 

• Supporting the planning and delivery of fundraising events and campaigns 

• Contributing to grant research and application processes 

• Generating creative fundraising ideas with the team 

• Helping build community partnerships and local business links 

• Attending bi-monthly evening meetings and following up on agreed action

VOLUNTEER POSITION – Grants Assistant

Hope and Vision Communities is a small charity based in Reading providing supported, move-on accommodation for people who have successfully completed residential rehabilitation.  We have a Christian ethos, where everyone can be loved and accepted with a sense of belonging, with the hope and opportunity of a new life. We are growing to expand who we can help to other geographical areas, as well as working on opening a women’s service.    

Growing our services means that we also need to grow our fundraising income, and to help reach this, we are looking for a skilled volunteer who could help us increase our grant submissions. The role will support the Trusts and Grants Fundraiser in managing a regular flow of grant applications to Trusts and Foundations.

Key Responsibilities

 •  Research and apply for grants and funding opportunities already identified in our CRM system - this could be potentially 3 applications a week where you prepare a customised case for support to be sent out to a funder

Key Skills and Qualifications

 •  Experience in using Microsoft Sharepoint for remote working

 •Strong written and verbal communication skills; able to inspire and engage diverse audiences.

 •  Ability to work independently, manage multiple projects, and meet deadlines.

The English class is a part of the Creative Arts and Skills Programme (CASP). It is a safe space for clients to improve their English at their own pace, making friends and immersing themselves in learning to forget some of their daily challenges, whilst being continuously supported by our team of dedicated staff and volunteers throughout their journey.

This weekly English class is a relaxed and friendly space for clients of all language and literacy abilities to practice their English together and develop the confidence to later enrol in a formal college ESOL course. While this class is mostly for beginners, it is also attended by clients who are less comfortable in busy environments and would prefer to learn or improve their English in a smaller group. Some clients are already in college and use this space for extra practice.

We are looking for two volunteers to facilitate this class. The volunteers will work together to develop new class material, and will alternate fortnightly as the main teacher and the support teacher.

Main tasks and activities

• Plan, prepare and deliver high quality English language teaching that meets the differing needs of our clients, taking into account individual learning styles
• Monitor progress and provide regular feedback to each student throughout the term
• Take part in education and training events or schemes as required by the programme
• Keep accurate and timely registers, plus records of travel and other expenses
• Contribute to the development, evaluation, and improvement of the English class, in order to meet learners' needs by actively working as a member of the CASP at HBF
• Keep in contact with the Community and Integration Manager and report any concerns around client wellbeing, following safeguarding procedures when needed

Skills and experience needed

• Understanding of, and commitment to, the objectives of the Helen Bamber Foundation;
• A demonstrable empathy for our vulnerable clients, including asylum seekers, refugees and survivors of torture and trafficking;
• An understanding of the challenges facing our client group;
• Punctual, reliable and self-motivated with a positive, ’can-do’ attitude;
• Hold a Basic ESOL Subject Specialist qualification (e.g. TEFL, CELTA, university degree);
• Proven experience of teaching as an ESOL/EFL teacher ;
• Experience of informal and community education;
• Experience working with vulnerable people;
• Strong facilitation skills with a focus on inclusivity and community-building
• Excellent organisational skills and ability to manage own time and workload, and to prioritise a range of competing demands;

We are looking for a  Volunteer & Recruitment Manager who will be a proactive, outgoing and organised person with a passion for volunteering and who understands the difference that volunteers can make to the community. In this role you will help to recruit Trustees, Committee Members, activity leaders and other volunteers to build and maintain a robust infrastructure around our current team members enabling the organisation to grow and prosper.

Volunteers are a critical part of the Charity’s foundation, providing the organisation’s services and supporting the fundraising goals. The Volunteer & Recruitment Manager role is to recruit, maintain and manage the Charity’s volunteers as well as raising awareness of volunteer opportunities within the community through various engagement initiatives.

You will help develop and grow our team by increasing the number of volunteers, meeting internal demand and enabling growth in new areas. 

We would like you to:

• Write job descriptions for current vacant roles
• Source relevant websites / organisations which specialise in recruiting volunteers
• Advertise vacancies through specialist volunteer websites and other outlets
• Research websites / sources to find and contact suitable candidates for CAG vacancies
• Review covering letters and CVs and shortlist potential candidates
• Regularly communicate with and feed back to the Committee on progress made
• Interview candidates along with another member of the Committee
• Process relevant paperwork for successful and unsuccessful candidates
• Maintain relevant records in a confidential manner as per GDPR
• Maintain a close working relationship with current team members to ensure the aims of the organisation and individual are being met

Ideally you should have:

• Experience of managing a volunteer function 
• The ability to attract, motivate and retain volunteers
• An understanding of the legislation and best practice for volunteering
• Knowledge and experience of other relevant agencies working with volunteers
• Be able to communicate effectively and clearly to a range of internal and external customers
• Be creative in the ability to attract and retain volunteers
• Good time management and organisational skills
• A flexible team player
• Ability to engage and build a rapport with a wide range of people
• Ability to build and maintain good working relationships
• The post holder must be able to provide a satisfactory Disclosure and Barring Check

The volunteer should also have/be:

Making a difference – what impact will the opportunity have?

Your input is key to the day to day running of CAG as well as securing its future.  We want you to help us find the right people to fill roles such as Treasurer, Program Manager, Secretary as well as recruiting new Leaders to help run our weekly activities and to take our members on exciting weekends away.  You will be helping us build a team of volunteers who can support both the administrative side of CAG as well as those running our termly program.  Our volunteers are the lifeblood of CAG and you will play a crucial part in keeping that heart beating.

This role is partly remote but ideally the candidate should be available for face to face Committee and other meetings.
