Immigration is one of the key debates within UK politics and the media. IMIX is working to ensure that debate includes the voices of migrants and those who support them.
Our vision is for a society that welcomes people who move to the UK and understands the different journeys—through migration or displacement—that bring them here. A society that recognises how overlapping injustices shape those journeys, and where everyone can belong, be treated fairly, and live well together.
Our mission is to use our media and communications expertise to ensure the voices and stories of migrants and refugees help shape how migration is understood and discussed in the UK.
We do this by working with people who have lived experience of the immigration system, the organisations that support them, and the journalists who shape public opinion—always recognising the inequalities and barriers that affect whose voices are heard.
We have a new strategy to 2030, which sets out the role that we play in the migration sector, and our ambitions for the years ahead. These are to:

The Duties of a Trustee
Trustees have overall control of a charity and are responsible for making sure it’s doing what it was set up to do, keeping the organisation on track and running effectively.
The IMIX Board meets four times a year to discuss with the Chief Executive and the team a wide range of issues. Our shared duties are to:
Strategy

Support the implementation of IMIX’s vision, mission, values and strategy.

Approve activities that deliver the strategic goals, along with operational policies, and monitor and evaluate their implementation.

Ensure that key risks are being identified, monitored and controlled effectively.
Finance and Resources

Ensure the strategy is resourced by overseeing IMIX’s financial plans and budgets.

Support and participate in fundraising and income generation activities

Review and approve IMIX’s annual financial statements.

Being a trustee means making decisions that will impact on the services and support that IMIX delivers and making a difference to the debate on migration.
What we’re looking for
We are looking for people to join our Board who have either or both of the following:
Lived experience of migration or asylum
More than half of our Board of Trustees have lived experience of migration, ranging from arriving as a refugee, growing up in the UK without settled status, moving to the UK from Europe, or being British but born outside of the UK.
It is important to us that people with lived experience are leading the governance of the organisation, as well as being involved across our projects, through Advisory Groups and Ambassador programmes. We recognise that diverse perspectives strengthen governance and decision-making, and we seek to continue broadening the range of backgrounds and experiences represented on our board.
Professional skills
We’re particularly looking for experience in one or more of the following areas:

What’s the commitment?
The Trustee term is three years, with an option to renew for a second term.
We have quarterly board meetings which take place online, with at one in person away day each year in London. We also have two sub-committees, one on People and HR, and the other on Finances and Funding, which meet in the month before a Board meeting.
How will we support you?
We’ll provide a full induction to the work of IMIX, and opportunities for you to understand what we do and how.
The Chair and Chief Executive will support you to settle in, and there is an annual one-to-one with the Chair for you to reflect on your learning and your experience of being on the Board.
We can also provide training and opportunities for you to develop your governance skills and particularly welcome people who may be new to governance roles.

The Society is seeking a committed volunteer with a passion for aerospace to join the Board of Trustees from May 2026. As a Trustee, you will play a strategic role in the charity’s governance and help the Society to meet its charitable objects - the advancement of aeronautical art, science, and engineering around the world.
Main duties and responsibilities
The Board of Trustees seeks to ensure that it has the skills, experience, diversity of thought and perspective to draw upon in its governance and decision-making roles. Trustees are expected to allocate time to reviewing papers and should actively participate in meetings by leading discussions, focusing on key issues and providing advice and guidance on new initiatives, to ensure that the Society continues to meet the needs of its members through financial sustainability and adherence to its charitable objects.

Time commitment
As a member of the Board of Trustees, the appointed individual will be required to attend 4 meetings in a calendar year (usually held on a Monday in March, June, September and November), with each meeting lasting up to 2.5 hours. Trustees should prepare in advance of meetings. Meetings are usually hybrid.
In addition, Trustees will be expected from time to time to engage with Society staff, as well as to devote appropriate preparation time ahead of each engagement. Trustees are expected to meet any additional time commitment that is reasonable (with a further call for commitment from Committee Chairs to fulfil those roles).
This is a voluntary position, and no remuneration is offered. The Society will, however, reimburse all reasonable ‘out of pocket’ expenses for attendance at meetings.

About us
Claremont has been around since 1907 and serves mostly older people through a powerful blend of social prescribing, low-cost psychotherapy and a programme of arts and wellbeing activities.
Claremont is a place of innovation and creativity, underpinned by a Relational Approach which emphasises real listening, self-awareness and an awareness of how we are being in relation to other people. We were the UK’s first Wellbeing Centre long before the term was ubiquitous; and in 1920s and 30s we ran programmes that became models for the Welfare State. About the roles
The Board of Trustees has overall responsibility for Claremont and ensures the charity is doing what it was set up to do. As set out by the Charity Commission, Trustees at Claremont are responsible for:

We are seeking to appoint two or three trustees, and also a Chair of the Board. We are seeking board members are passionate about our mission, vision and values; who have governance experience within charities; and who can think strategically as part of a team.
Between them, our Board of Trustees has knowledge, expertise and skills that cover a range of areas. Alongside a broad competence in charity governance, it would be desirable if candidates had skills that could help us fill the following gaps:

Time commitment (Trustee roles):Quarterly Board meetings (held in the evenings), plus emails and optional committee work.

Duties:

As a small charity, there will be times when the trustees will need to be actively involved beyond Board meetings. Crossness Pumping Station (overseen by the Crossness Engines Trust) is a unique and valuable museum of UK and world reknown telling the history of how the ambitious management of sewage transformed London as a city of growth and innovation in the 1860s and helped eradicate cholera. Preserved and restored by a group of enthusiasts since 1987, we are now entering a second phase of major restoration and we need visionary trustees who can help us achieve it.
This role is one of three we have created for experts in their field to help us implement a major programme over the next 5-10 years. It really is your chance to be part of our history!
As well as the usual trustee roles (outlined in the role description attached) the specific skills needed for this role include:
Role Objectives
- Acting as lead expert on the Board in relation to fundraising (eg grant funding, legacy funding, onsite donations, but not commercial trading/visitor charges).
- Advising on good practice and regulatory and policy issues in charity fundraising.
- Identifying future fundraising prospects and working with volunteers to achieve these.
Responsibilities
- Work with a volunteer lead/team on identifying future funding sources from grant-making bodies.
- Develop a fundraising strategy with volunteers.
- Develop corporate fundraising targets with other trustees.
- Investigate legacy fundraising and other visitor/member/donor opportunities.
Candidate requirements
Essential
- Proven success in heritage or similar charity fundraising.
- Good knowledge of the standards required by the Institute of Fundraising.
- Ability to develop fundraising skills in volunteers.
- Good knowledge of relevant stakeholders in the fundraising community.
- Excellent communication skills including with staff and volunteers as well as fellow trustees.
- An understanding of the importance of collaboration and problem-solving.
- Confident and proficient in the use of MS Office 365.
- Commitment to attend board meetings regularly and volunteer for other sub-committees as appropriate.
- Able to devote around 2-3 hours per week on preparing for meetings.
- Treating colleagues with respect and politeness.
Desirable
- Experience in the charity sector.
- Experience as a volunteer in a similar organisation.
- Experience in Digital, Marketing and Finance would also be useful.
