Key Tasks

Day-to-day management and leadership of the Community activities team comprising paid staff and volunteers, ensuring a strong team culture and their ongoing professional development.

Support and develop your team including team meetings, consultation and feedback sessions and establishing a culture of continual improvement.

Work with the AUKEL Communications team to plan and deliver accessible programme information to a range of audiences across multiple channels.

Lead and oversee the monitoring, recording and reporting of all activity within the programme area; ensuring the service is meeting key performance indicators (KPIs), identifying and flagging any concerns and taking proactive action to address this; ensuring that internal and external stakeholders receive accurate and timely reports.

Work collaboratively with other agencies providing aligned services, opportunity-spotting, cross referrals, maintaining excellent working relationships with all external stakeholders.

Support the Head of Community to ensure that evidence of the wider impact of our offer is spotlighted and presented to a wide range of stakeholders.

Manage the budget, sign-off expenses, and ensure projects are delivered to budget, liaising with the Finance Department as necessary.

Support the Head of Community with generating funding e.g. being actively involved in consultation of possible projects, providing activity data, opportunity spotting, and/or supporting the production of tenders.

Contribute to the organisational objectives contained with AUKEL’s 5-Year strategy and actively identify opportunities for development, fundraising and systems improvement.

To undertake any other duties within the competence of the post hold as may be required from time to time for the smooth running of Age UK East London.

The contract terms:
• Permanent contract

About the role:
You will act as subject matter expert to deliver a best-in-class business planning and budgeting process that leads us into delivering on our strategic plan.

What you will be doing:
Budgeting and Forecast
- Deliver a collaborative annual planning and budgeting process that ensures delivery of the business and financial strategy and re-forecasts as required.
Accounting and Performance Management:
- Produce monthly and quarterly management accounts to deadlines for review by the Head of Finance / CFO, identifying key variances and issues affecting financial performance, whilst looking for improvement opportunities.
- To deliver a periodic reporting process that is timely and accurate, engaging with heads of departments (budget holders) to build on and develop existing reporting.
- To contribute to the preparation of the Annual Report and Accounts and associated audit processes.
- To develop and deliver a suite of financial performance metrics in line with best practice. This will include development of cost allocation methodologies and balanced scorecard elements aligned to strategic reporting.
Financial Planning and Analysis
- Support the preparation of financial forecasts and scenario modelling.
- Engage with the Head of Finance and CFO to deliver a shared understanding of future incomes and expenditure and to introduce planning methods to rapidly flex the organisation to meet the uncertainties in such forecasts.
- Providing financial insights to support the preparation of business cases within the organisation for capital and revenue initiatives.
Financial Analysis
- To provide analysis of income, charitable expenditure, support, governance and other costs with meaningful commentary and trend analysis.
- Provide Motability with high quality data analytics and reporting that drive evidence-based decision making to maximise impact and value for money.
- Support any shift in operating model, so that Motability maintains clear sight of its impact and value for money.

Payroll:
- To contribute to the preparation and review of the monthly payroll, including starters and leavers, and statutory returns.

Your experience:
Must haves:
- Recognised CCAB Accountancy qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA).
- Periodic reporting, budget and forecast preparation with variance analysis and commentary.
- Delivering a successful business partnering agenda for budget holders and non-finance staff with the ability to communicate key financial messages and influence management action.
- Some experience, or understanding, of Microsoft Power BI and Microsoft Fabric, with the ability to build dashboards, manage certified datasets, and contribute to governed reporting environments.
- Sage 200 accounting package experience.
- Microsoft Excel – intermediate to advanced level.
- Able to work confidently with a range of senior stakeholders on operational and financial data to arrive at measures of impact whilst also able to support a new manager with their first budget.

The team is made up of skilled Debt Advisors and Project Administrators, supported by technical supervision to ensure consistent quality and compliance. The Advice Manager oversees the delivery and performance of this service, ensuring advice is accurate, person-centred, and aligned with Toynbee Hall’s high standards.
Through this collaborative and well-supported structure, the team helps people in crisis regain financial stability and build long-term resilience.
Job purpose

Scope of role
The Advice Manager is responsible for the effective national management and delivery of the Mental Health Crisis Breathing Space (MHCBS) service. This role oversees day-to-day operations, ensuring that advice provision meets the highest standards of quality, consistency, and compliance in line with both Toynbee Hall and Money and Pensions Service (MaPS) frameworks. Working closely with technical supervisors, quality managers, the Head of Quality and Compliance, and the contract organisation lead, the Advice Manager will ensure the service is performing effectively and meeting contractual targets.
The postholder will bring significant experience in debt advice delivery, including the ability to manage complex cases, creditor challenges, and service escalations with professionalism and sound judgement. They will lead and support a dispersed, largely remote team, oversee auditing and training, maintain oversight of billables, and ensure resources are used effectively. This role requires a balance of operational leadership and technical expertise to maintain service excellence across all areas of delivery.

1. People Management
