Role Overview:
The Talent Set is delighted to assist with the recruitment of a Challenge and Virtual Events Manager. This vital role focuses on developing innovative, engaging events that generate sustainable income, fostering new partnerships, and enhancing supporter engagement within the charity sector.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with senior stakeholders to develop and implement strategic plans that maximise income from challenge and virtual events.
- Design and execute multi-channel marketing campaigns to boost participation and fundraising outcomes.
- Cultivate relationships with participants, supporters, and external partners through newsletters, online groups, and event coordination.
- Manage the delivery of existing events and conceptualise new ones to increase fundraising potential.
- Lead and supervise up to three team members, ensuring deadlines, budgets, and quality standards are met.
- Analyse processes and implement improvements to optimise event efficiency and effectiveness.
- Maintain accurate financial records, producing reports to support decision-making and target tracking.
- Ensure all activities comply with policies, legal requirements, and best practice standards, including data protection and fundraising regulations.
- Foster collaboration across teams to identify new fundraising opportunities and maximise income streams.

Person Specification:
- Proven experience in delivering and marketing large-scale events to diverse audiences.
- Demonstrable history of using insight to develop and evaluate new fundraising products and initiatives.
- Skilled in project planning, target setting, and achieving outcomes, both financial and non-financial.
- Strong relationship-building capabilities with internal teams and external partners.
- Excellent written and verbal communication, with high attention to detail.
- Knowledge of fundraising regulations, charity law, GDPR, and supporter data management.
- Creative thinker with adaptability to changing priorities and environment.
- Effective leadership and team management abilities.
- Strong organisational skills, capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously.

Job Roles:
Ronald McDonald House UK is seeking a proactive and creative Mass Participation Events Manager to lead the delivery and growth of our mass participation portfolio. The role will lead on the strategy, performance and delivery of our challenge events programme, ensuring events achieve agreed income and participation targets and work closely with the Head of Mass Engagement to shape and test future Ronald McDonald House UK owned mass participation events, supporting sustainable, diversified income growth.
Key Responsibilities:
Event strategy and planning
- Develop and deliver a clear strategy for challenge and mass participation events, aligned to fundraising targets and audience engagement objectives
- Identify and assess new event opportunities, including third party and bespoke challenges, to diversify and grow income
- To play a key role in developing new events, taking them to market and adopting a test and learn approach in collaboration with the Head of Mass Engagement and wider Engagement Directorate
Event delivery and logistics
- Support the Senior Event Fundraiser to lead the end-to-end management of events, including budgeting, planning, supplier coordination, risk management, and on-the-day execution
- Ensure all events are delivered to a high standard, providing an exceptional experience for supporters
Supporter engagement and stewardship
- Build strong relationships with event participants, providing excellent supporter experience and tailored stewardship journeys
- Support the development, delivery of and evaluation of effective supporter journeys across the events portfolio, focused on maximising net return and supporter retention
- Create and develop engaging communications and materials to inspire fundraising and deepen supporters’ connections to the charity
Marketing and promotion
- Lead the delivery of an audience and insight led events marketing programme, working closely with the Brand, Communications and Digital Engagement team to maximise participation and net return
- Keep abreast of income and data trends across the sector to help inform future activities and events fundraising programmes
Monitoring and evaluation
- Agree and deliver against ambitious income and acquisition targets, maintaining costs within agreed budgets
- Set, manage and report against budgets, milestones and KPIs across the events portfolio, demonstrating accountability for performance
- Use data and insight to evaluate event performance, inform decision making and continuously improve participant experience
- Produce regular performance reports and insights for internal stakeholders
Collaboration and partnership
- Work closely with senior managers and colleagues across the department to maximise opportunities for collaboration and integrated delivery
- Build and maintain effective relationships with key stakeholders, including but not limited to - McDonald’s Relationship Team, House teams, fundraising partners, suppliers, and third party event organisers
Skills & Experience:
Essential
- A proven track record of excellent management of an event portfolio to meet income and acquisition targets
- Experience of delivering data and insight led marketing and stewardship programmes to drive acquisition and net income
- Experience of managing multiple projects with complex budgets, multiple stakeholders and stretching KPIs.
- Line management and team development experience
- Knowledge of health and safety, risk management in event delivery and fundraising compliance
Desirable
- Experience of virtual fundraising and development of new events
- Ability to plan, prioritise and balance a busy and varied workload
- Familiarity with digital fundraising platforms and Microsoft Dynamics
- Experience supporting innovation or new product development, working with agencies to deliver new fundraising products

Summary of Role
The Head of Business Operations will play a key leadership role within The Brain Charity, leading and overseeing the effective and safe delivery of a range of business and operational activities. This includes responsibility for premises management, health and safety, data protection compliance, ICT systems, and operational services such as room hire and café provision.
Working closely with the Chief Executive Officer and senior colleagues, the role will ensure that systems, processes and services run efficiently, meet regulatory requirements, and support the charity’s wider objectives. The postholder will also lead on continuous improvement, oversee operational performance, manage budgets and commercial activities, and develop sustainable income-generating services that support people living with neurological conditions.
Key Responsibilities
Management of Physical Assets
- Hold responsibility for the organisation’s assets register.
- Ensure that all buildings owned by the organisation and their fixtures and fittings are maintained to a high standard in a cost-effective way.
Health & Safety, Security & Business Continuity
- Provide leadership and assurance on the effectiveness of Health & Safety controls across the organisation.
- Ensure the safe, secure and continuous operation of the charity’s premises, including oversight of access arrangements, security controls, and incident response.
- Ensure Health & Safety and food safety policies are in place, effectively implemented, embedded into day-to-day operations, and consistently monitored to maintain full compliance across all operational activities.
- Ensure statutory checks, monitoring activities and remedial actions are completed, documented and reviewed in line with regulatory requirements.
- Maintain organisational readiness for incidents affecting premises safety, security, or continuity of service delivery, and act as the designated Deputy within the Business Continuity Plan, carrying out responsibilities in line with the defined scope and actions of the plan.
- Act as a designated security key holder and first point of contact for premises alarm activations and building security incidents, ensuring appropriate timely response and escalation.
Data Protection & GDPR
- Support and contribute to ensuring compliance with GDPR and data protection legislation across the organisation.
- Support the CEO and senior leadership team in meeting data protection responsibilities, including compliance reporting and engagement with the ICO and Subject Access Requests where required.
ICT, Digital & Systems Oversight
- Provide oversight of ICT infrastructure, Microsoft 365 accounts and CRM systems, ensuring they support operational and business objectives.
- Produce and present quarterly reports covering ICT performance, KPIs, system risks and improvement activity.
- Manage supplier relationships and contracts for IT support services, including due diligence, contract management and renewal.
- Support ICT and CRM development initiatives in line with organisational priorities.
- Ensure compliance with Cyber Essentials requirements and oversee the organisation’s cyber security posture.
Operational Management
- Take responsibility for improving the performance, productivity, efficiency, and profitability of the café, room hire services.
- Work collaboratively with the Communications Team to support the promotion and advertising of business activities, including room hire and café services.
- Lead and manage facilities refurbishment and improvement projects, ensuring they are delivered safely, on time and within budget.
- Oversee contractor engagement ensuring compliance with Health & Safety and contractual requirements during works.
- Ensure appropriate insurance policies are in place, regularly reviewed and maintained in line with organisational risk exposure.
- Act as the operational lead for insurance-related matters, including renewals and claims support.
- Support the CEO and Trustee Board with financial matters relating to business activities as required.
- Monitor and analyse business data, producing reports and delivering presentations to senior management and the trustee board.
Financial Management
- Set and manage budgets for existing product and service delivery.
- Forecast sales targets and monitor progress against these.

People Management
- Take responsibility for being up to date with the charity’s current policies and procedures and ensure they are adhered to by all staff within your department.
